  1. How about an extension to the current training arena : ‘boss mechanic training’

Somewhere where you could just choose a boss mechanic (eg mushroom eating, Demios tank, demios hand kiting, dhumm orb collection ) - and learn that part in a small arena ?

The amount of people who are afraid to eat a mushroom in a raid, because they have not done it in a different setting is amazing. They don’t want to mess up and make the group fail. The same goes for orb collecting - which requires practice which is hard to do without a full group and an instance.

The biggest barrier to raiding is finding 10 people who can fill the right roles in order to complete the content successfully.

And remember, that the net result was a _drop_ in PvP population, as a lot of drop in/drop out semi-casual pvp frequenters got burned out of the mode, and decided to just stick with PvE for the time on, and a number of PvP players also got tired of seeing all those casual PvE players "polluting" their mode.

Why should it be exclusive that players only play one game mode?

It’s healthy that players try other aspects of the game modes and they may learn to improve in each game format.

Yes, there will be some players that are exclusive to one game mode - however there are probably more that play more than one game mode.

  3. Why do this have to be about the ability to instantly get the item or as fast as possible?

Yes - there will be some individuals who will have it due to their schedule or the ability to play regularly. Both WvW and PvP items require a significant number of hours to get.

The ‘upgrade’ to the PvP legendary item via tournaments via wins is approx 30 hrs (1.5 hrs a tournament - with only 1 win every tournament where you play 3-4 games). If you only play daily set a specific time aside one day a week to do this, yes it may take you 20 weeks - but by then you may have your own team who can play your style.

The ‘base’ 100 game wins = 200 games x20 mins = 66 hrs of playing conquest only. 2v2= 33hrs (as matches are shorter and shorter ques).

WvW has other efforts such as 5 Gift of Battles the reward track: 8 hrs/track= 50 hrs.

Both rewards are designed to be a long term goal and not a ‘how quickly can I get it’.

Each item has an associated cost of about 1.5K gold - which is really expensive for a bit of stat swapping and some extra pixels on screen.

_This is not designed to be a race - it is a long term goal_

    > Well there are posts regarding tools like TACO and arcdps have has staff responses stating that they are allowed, dx9todx12 has not that I am aware of. That is all i mean.

The person who used to verify this has left ANET back in December. The full TOS can be found here:

    https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-user-agreement/

There is nothing here which conflicts with using dx9todx12 proxy.

ArcDPS however does read game memory but has specifically been approved for one version of the tool - there has been many more releases which were not approved.

    > I don't know where or when it was said, but at least one Anet dev did go on record to say that they looked into upgrading from dx9 but they found it didn't improve performance as much as players think it would (they'd have to hardcode it and whatnot in a way the mod doesn't have to, similar to how Anet couldn't just copy build and gear templates as those needed to be integrated into the rest of the game's code) and it would be extremely costly in time or money to implement so they chose to stick with dx9.

    >

    > The engine in general needs an overhaul, though. It's over 15 years old and while their method of patching is fantastic, the performance side of things is definitely running into the limits from the GW1 engine. Anet doesn't like tipping their hand on what they plan to do (although they are getting somewhat better now) but I wouldn't be surprised if the third expansion comes with a complete engine overhaul. I think that's more likely than it happening (if at all) without anything else going on, but it's just speculation on my part.

It’s in my first post :

What has changed though is some specific things in DX12 which should improve things if implemented. ANETs comment refers to a pure DX9->DX11 upgrade. DX12 can lower cpu cycles and provides much better multi-core optimisation than DX11 and DX9.

  6. It’s not against the TOS - ANET do not approve any third party applications.

The developer has also released the source code and a few people have checked it and found nothing bad in it to date. Given it’s been heavily used for the last year by a good % of the player base and does not provide any advantage over any other player it’s highly unlikely ANET will ban anyone using it now.

Many people also use GW2TACO an overlay for GW2 for numerous years which also does not have a specific approval from ANET.

  7. Many people are using a third party add on called dx9todx12 proxy which is often boosting fps:

https://github.com/megai2/d912pxy/releases - this once configured for your system will utilise more of your hardware and provide you a bit of a boost.

I would recommend looking at this old post on why multi-threading programming is hard esp for MMOs:

    - a ANET dev is commenting on how it works.

I would recommend looking at the following for maximising performance for your setup:

Shifting to a native DX12 may also help:

There is a known performance boost, if done correctly - and has been proved in WoW and some other games as it can help lower the cpu cycles needed on the main thread.

I have a 4 core hyperthreaded i7 @ 4.6Ghz (OC'd) [so it appears as 8 cpus in task manager] - and GW2 regularly takes 40-60% of my CPU cycles across all cores. A single core is about 12.5%. It may not be maxing out all cores, but its certainly giving it a decent running as true paralism and balance across cores is very difficult to program.

Reference for testing for WoW DX12 performance:

-- There is no real gain from DX9-> DX11 as most of the CPU optimizations can be found in the DX12 once fully utilized.

    >

    > anyway, as for internet connection: remember that connection goes beyond pc -> game, due to the current pandemic lots of ISPs are overloaded with traffic as lots of people are at home with nothing to do, and as such you can expect lag at prime time both from the stress on anets servers, and the stress on your ISP. i stop playing serious content at 2pm server time (NA servers, european player) because my ping starts spiking from there onwards, i will say that prime time is definitley smoother than it used to be towards the start of the pandemic.

    >

    > ofc, it could actually be a thunderhead exlcusive problem, but so far i personally haven't had any issues that can't be explained by the above.

Its not a FPS lag , it seems server side as many people are experiecing and reporting it in map chat - this is non-prime time such as 2pm server time (na servers)

How is the steam generated, burning wood?

  10. Isn’t fossil fuels what powers the tank?

  11. I am concerned for the world of Tyria, we have thousands of people mining, digging up plants and chopping down trees - has anyone put any thought to the ecological destruction of Tyria that we are doing?

I fear that Tyria will run out of resources, there will be a shortage of food, wood, minerals and plants if we don't do something about it !

We must replant forests, plants and let the trees grow - so grab a Sylvari and put the roots in the ground !

    /s

  12. Unfortunately this is not internet lag, it’s server side on this one . I have seen many players (from all over the world) complaining at the same time of the lag on the THK maps on NA servers - ping will be fine, skills won’t respond and your movement will be delayed.

A couple of maps seem to be suffering like this, most noticeable is the Thunderhead Keep map.

Please come to the map and play it for an hour or two and experience the severe lag every 10-15mins which can last 1-4 mins.

  13. Whilst you are learning to tank, and assuming that you've not done it before and are in training runs - you can do something which is more suited to allowing you to make mistakes, such as raising your toughness, increasing your boon duration etc such as:

    http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PiwAw6zlVwWYOsD2JeqT5tXA-zRJYjRLfZURKkeBo2ss7wG-e

-- This is a **_training build only_** as its highly defensive and will allow you to get used to whats going on and you should find it easier to maintain boons for the team, whilst learning what skills to use to block incoming damage and attacks. You will find eventually you're going to be running around in legendary armor/weapons/runes and adjust your build for each raid boss/fight as needed when you become better at the profession.

Generally you'll start in a high toughness (e.g. minstrels with high boon duration) for training runs, until you can tank in more zerker/diviners/assassin armor which is the builds snowcrow's is publishing - the main job of the tank is to (in no particular order):

    1. Stay Alive

    2. Give boons to the team (e.g. quickness and/or alacrity if you dont have an alacrev on the team).

    3. Position the boss in the right place

    4. Block and invlun. attacks that will one-shot kill you or port you to somewhere else on the map.

It might be good you join one of the training guilds to get used to performing the role - I wish you luck in your journey.
