Thank you!!! I’m glad to hear that skimmers can indeed go underwater now — I’ll have to log on just to try that out! :)

LS1 instances? Really? Via fractals or...?

I feel like a lot of games are focusing on nostalgia, or maybe that’s nothing new and inevitable from time to time. Never having played GW1, I wasn’t crazy about all the references in PoF that I guess only made sense if you’d played that and I imagine I should expect even more from Cantha. I know WoW released it’s “classic” last year and it looks like ESO is following this year’s return to Skyrim with Oblivion next year. So much human stuff! I play GW2 for the Sylvari and ESO for the Elves!

  2. Checking in! I will say that I cannot bring myself to buy mount skins in other games because GW2 mounts are sooo much cooler and the skins are dyeable! So what’s new? It looks like there aren’t any new mounts since the Skyscale, but can the Skimmer now go underwater?

Any new Sylvari stuff? The Tanglewood glider looks cool — too bad I didn’t catch that! But still no Sylvari jackal that comes apart and back together in a swirl of leaves?

But now how about classes? Major changes overall? Are Druid pets still gimped?

Gorgeous! That’s my favorite spider model in GW2 and the mini I use most often! I love the mounts we do have but so sad they scrapped this one. :disappointed:

  4. The pet nerf needs to be revoked. Trading one advantage or mechanic for another is one thing, having it gimped to little more than a hindrance you are still saddled with is another.

It may be overstating it a bit, and I wouldn’t like to see Druid lose having a pet option as part of why I was drawn to the ranger class was animal companions. But that is also part of why I hate that nerf: it doesn’t make sense thematically and feels like you’re telling me my Druid neglected her pets or hurt them through her class choices. :(

There was already a significant trade-off of DPS when taking Druid spec rather than a third core spec and Celestial Avatar was already nerfed — no further trade-off was called for IMHO.

Now removing Glyph of Empowerment I totally understood as it was a unique buff.

And then staff 3 absolutely needs to evade; it makes _no sense_ to not function this way! I had regularly used this in raids to reposition, avoid damage and give my group a healing boost. How does a shard/punch/etc. knock me out of mistform??? It’s like salt in the wound after the pet nerf. :disappointed:

  5. No, I have multiples of different classes primarily for character concept and to wear different armor. I very rarely swap builds on a character, mostly do build changes when I’m experimenting or trying to optimize for particular content. But I know many people who will be glad for build templates who currently do so through Arc, which seems to always be buggy. So I think those who like alts will continue having alts and those who swap builds will now have their lives made much easier. :)

  6. 1) My guildies <3

    2) My characters

    3) Time and money invested

    4) I still have fun in the game. At times I need or have to take a break for a time, but then I come back and have fun.

I answered both of your posts because right now I’m in between states in a way. I was mostly taking a break but logged in from time to time to check things and my healing was wanted — it is good to be wanted, heh. :3 So I joined in for some fractals, dungeons and raids and it was fun so I am back but in casual mode for now. :)

  7. I do think people were expecting too much, making disappointment inevitable, like people expecting to get the rare RNG drop.

Personally, I was hoping (but not expecting) more underwater content but adding to Norn lore could be fun, especially if that includes more options in character creation. I am glad it is not Cantha because they were the focus of the last story arcs and I feel that most of the GW1 fan service stuff isn’t integrated well for those of us who never played the game.

  8. That’s not even true. I enjoy the underwater content (although not on every character because of different abilities) and enjoy exploring around Orr and elsewhere, finding hidden caves and ruins! The only time I don’t like it is when I’m forced to navigate it as a helpless dolphin. I never liked the underwater fractal but the open world and dungeon underwater content is great!

  9. It’s very normal for content to eventually go on sale, even included free with something else at some point. I bought HoT shortly after I started playing late in 2016 and bought PoF on pre-release and I don’t regret it one bit. Those of you claiming it’s a “smack in the face” or other such nonsense were probably unhappy with the expansion or game in general to say that. I mean, how much have you played the HoT and LWS3 maps themselves as well as used gliding, the elite specs and wardrobe and stat unlocks since you bought it? Probably a lot of fun times you participated in with guild, friends, etc. that you would not have if you’d looked in your crystal ball and decided to wait on getting the expansions until they were offered as a package deal.

I think it’s quite nice that we got a thank you and thinking that you are somehow owed a refund is just ridiculous. I do see OP’s point, however, and it would be nice if there were some different options for those with all those skins unlocked.

Current weapons are mostly whatever until I figure out how to develop her look. I do like the appearance of the green torch, however. Here I was browsing different wardrobe options and I have always liked the sylvrari dryad armor:

From the back, I don't like how the mantle appears. A backpiece could potentially fix it, but it would have to be a more subtle option that most I've seen -- no flying more banners than a fortress, lol.

Thank you so much for the inspiration and helpful suggestions! =) What are the names of the dyes that you used for Ungoliantë’s attire?

You’re right — the Desert Rose backpiece does work quite nicely and fits well with the devoted staff! :)

  11. I’m happy with GW2’s combination of what can be earned in game and what is available for gems — especially considering that it is F2P outside of the expansions!!! To my knowledge, most MMORPG’s require a subscription whether or not there is an upfront and/or additional cost for expansions and any non-sub option for those games comes with severe limitations.

Even GW2’s Gemstore items are generally good deals compared to what I’ve seen elsewhere (not counting RNG stuff like BLC’s and dye packs but those are never a good deal anywhere so you buy them if you enjoy that kind of thing). And GW2 has spoiled me on mounts, lol! There are things I wish GW2 did differently, certainly, but the range of what you get in game and what you can pay extra for isn’t one of them. :)

    > Are you thinking of the primordial one? (The one that looks like a Jurassic Park raptor.) That's cool too, but not what I'm looking for. The primeval mounts are the ghostly ones, so far there's been a springer, jackal, griffon and roller beetle and I'm hoping eventually they'll add the others, but especially the raptor.

You’re right, my apologies, I confused the name! Somehow I don’t associate the name “primeval” with the ghostly mounts. I do particularly like the primeval jackal and I agree it’s surprising that they haven’t added the raptor. A primeval skyscale could be pretty sweet too! :)

    > The mount panel could really do with a way to sort skins by which pack they're in, especially if they're not going to add a way to preview the licences before buying them. It's getting to the point where it's really annoying to have to sort through all the skins to spot the new ones which have been added and that's only going to get worse as they add more over time.

Totally agree! I think it would make the most sense to be able to preview license options before you buy rather than sorting mounts in the Hero panel since nothing else in wardrobe is sortable in this manner whereas most items in the Gem store are previewable.

Not a fan of the lithosol raptor myself but it is very different and I can see why people like it. For my taste, there are too many effects-heavy / glowy mounts in this pack. The primeval raptor is awesome and is part of the Exotic Mounts pack. I do like the new springer mounts but nothing jumped out at me as a “must have” but that’s a good thing, really, considering how many mount skins and other things I bought earlier in the year!

    > So to me this looks like a way to attach some sort of cost to season 5, which is fine with me since its optional. However It seems pretty ambitious releasing this before we even know what season 5 will bring, since its supposed to celebrate its release. Its also quite disheartening to see that once again, the majority of an update is gem store items. The entire end game for many people is based around acquiring cosmetic skins for our characters, and the large majority of new items being added to the game are exclusive to the gem store. I hope for the sake of this game this trend does not continue and we get some substantial content and rewards for playing season 5, otherwise its quite clear that gw2 is turning into another ncsoft mmo cash cow.

There’s no sub. How else should would they get revenue for the game? GW2 is quite generous in their F2P, requiring only purchase of the two expansions for all content. Every other MMORPG that I know of locks major functionality or QoL behind a sub — if they have a F2P option at all. I think it’s awesome that you can acquire all mounts and so much else in the game alone. Gem store items really are optional cosmetics or additional QoL (not comparable to that other games lock behind subbing and a one time fee in any case). Of course I don’t agree with every decision made for GW2, but I really can’t complain about what they charge for.

  15. I haven’t stopped but take breaks from time to time just because I’ll get more involved with other things. What drove me to sooner and has decreased my incentive to come back for fractals and raids is the huge nerfs to Druid and Chronomancer. I was glad that other specializations were introduced that could fill these roles — variety is great! — but Druid has been my main for group content since I started playing endgame content. I learned it over time and it was the one role I was really good at — not sign-me-up-with-an-elite-squad level, but good for a semi-hardcore / occasionally obsessed otherwise casual player. My healer Druid was my in-game identity as a player and the whole nature aspect was very important to that for me. That is why the pet nerfs upset me so, and having my chosen companion mortally wounded if an enemy so much as looks at them. :( It probably upsets me more than a purely mechanical by-the-numbers analysis would back-up, but it’s important to how I play the game, logical or no. Sure, I could learn another role, but it takes time, especially if you don’t want to approach it like a job, and why would I want to do that especially when my new chosen class might be completely changed in the next patch? I had been in the process of learning chronomancer boon / tank support but scratch that... I don’t mean to sound overly negative and there are many aspects of the game that’s I still enjoy and I participate in solo stuff and open world when I play. It would be really nice if we had more options in choosing our traits and trade-offs...

TL;DR Revert some of these huge nerfs and class overhauls that limit how we can play.

I’ll still be back in and off, especially if there’s more underwater content — a pain on some classes, yes, but not all, and something totally different and unique to GW2. :)

Do you know what it was renamed to? Or have pictures of the new mount skins not been released yet?

It would seem strange to do a /menace or /threaten while sitting, no? At least it looks a bit funny in my mind! But I would love to see more emotes that we can use at will, including variations in sitting and dancing and options to change or turn off idle animations (I don’t dislike them, but they don’t fit every character and customization is fun!).

  18. Sometimes I feel like just wondering the world with just my mount for company, but generally, I think I’m more social in the game than rl. I’ll join others doing metas or random events, help others when I can, rescue when I can and as others have said, I’ll often comment when I like someone’s character design, mount, etc. This is usually received positively, occasionally silence, but I figure they just didn’t see the message or prefer to keep to themselves and that’s totally cool too. :)
