I’m glad on both counts, personally! I feel that a stat increase would go against one of the game’s core principles. As for visual effect, considering how much I dislike the trinkets, I am glad there is none! Plus, imagine it combining with with someone already wearing legendary trinkets, weapon, maybe some auras — what a mess!

  2. I’ve been glad to see these cycling back through and am watching for Dreamthistle or other nature-themes gathering tools to come back (although the baby Skyscales are adorable too!)

I _almost_ bought the new chair, simply because it is sylvari-theme, but, I have never liked the chairs, tbh. I’d rather sit on my mount, which is customizable and has lovely animations. But hopefully it will be popular among other sylvari fans who do like the chairs. :)

I continue to remain hopeful for sylvari-themed mounts — a jackal at the least!

  3. Very true! I could understand the frustration of people who took time off to enjoy the Skyscale based on how the other mounts were released, but for the rest of us, take the journey at whatever pace is enjoyable. :) I already love the Skyscale just from riding the borrowed mounts and their design is wonderful!

GW2 mounts are sooo far and away the best in every category: utility, appearance, animations, acquisition and improvements being accountwide. I remember SWTOR mounts as being mostly for fashion and small to moderate speed boosts. ESO mounts are similarly not nearly as alive and varied as those in GW2 and increasing their speed/utility is a time-gated (once per 20 hours) payout _per character_. Not to bash either game, as they shine in other areas, but GW2 mounts are simply the best! :3

  4. I’m not a vet, but playing off and on since late 2016, I don’t think I would still be considered new?

    Casual, with elements of dedicated

I have many goals I’m working for, but I pursue them as I feel like or do something completely different if it catches my fancy. For me that keeps it fun! :)

Satisfied. Of course there are always things that would be improvements from my perspective, but very satisfied overall and occasionally delighted! :3

Hmm, I don’t like any of the categories here... I don’t play many games, but those I do I invest a lot of time in. Sometimes take breaks from gaming altogether because of rl stuff or I focus on something completely different, like reading books. But that’s one of the things I appreciate about GW2 — it doesn’t punish me for this open relationship, if you want to put it in those terms.

As for outlook, hopeful, cautiously optimistic (I am cynical by nature so I’d say that’s pretty good :p )

  5. @"Konig Des Todes.2086" Those are good points. :) Another point about the elder dragons which I am a bit confused about, is how do we know that the Deep Sea dragon is awake and causing mayhem? Was this mentioned in LWS3 and I’ve forgotten? Given how prevalent the DSD has been in talk of where we might go next and future expansions, I’d rather expected some foreshadowing of this threat in LWS4 but there was not. So are people just assuming he’s awake causing problems? Or what did I miss?

What’s to ruin? Just read through @"Ghetx.1752"’s description and, wow, I am amazed it was popular back then even! :o I guess because it was the first / only of its kind? It just does not sound fun, and I never liked the aesthetics.

  7. @"Sir Alric.5078", right so it sounds like we need MORE elder dragons, not fewer, unless Aurene can contain the power of all of them.

It seems to me that the dragon storyline might have concluded for now so long as there are no more imminent threats, unless there is more that we can do to restore balance. The dragon storyline may continue, but the assumption that we’ll need to kill them doesn’t make sense to me at this point.

    >

    > It's not closed. Jormag and Primordus are still alive (they were just knocked out at the end of LWS3 episode 5 so they stopped doing things, but they are not dead), and so is the DSD.

    > LWS5 will not be focused on them though, or so i've heard. I expect a series of "filler" episodes so that our heroes can rest while they wait for the next big battle.

Why do the other elder dragons need to be killed at this point? Isn’t putting them into a quiescent state — as done with Jormag and Primordus — ideal as it doesn’t risk unbalancing magic and destroying the world?

It is a completely different style of gaming which was one of the main reason GW2 was successful and why many people sought out GW2 in the first place so why would we leave to go to something we had little interest in to begin with? Some will try it out and remember just how much of a horrible grinding experience it was and come tearing back here.

As you said, most MMO’s have that so you and everyone else who likes to grind for what will be made irrelevant can go play any one of those. GW2 is for people who’d prefer to work toward fun things, horizontal expansion — gliding, mounts, etc.

I suppose I might be before I’ve had my morning coffee. :o I had read your post as a criticism of GW2 for not having vertical progression, which I’m tired of seeing along with all the doom threads of late, and just posted on reaction against that, sorry. (You’ll have to concede that posting on the GW2 forum does not, in fact, mean that you like or even currently play the game, going by some of the other threads posted, but I did jump to an assumption).

    > Look, here's what I'm trying to say: You get to look like a sniper, but you can't play the game like a shooter. You get to look like a dervish, but you can't actually play a dervish. It's like this game is for people too poor to play the real games that have those things in them. And now we don't even have expansions.Instead we’re getting a fake version of expansions with Living Story. But no real expansion, that's for real MMOs that cost real money.

You can play a sniper with Deadeye and if you want to play it like a FPS, people have already pointed out you can use action cam.

This is all so meaningless. A game is only “real” if it allows you to play your favorite class? Or, doesn’t allow you to look like something else while playing another class? Doesn’t every online game have these options? So none of them are “real”?

This thread was always nonsensical but isn’t even amusing anymore. Just another GW2-doesn’t-cater-to-me-so-is-clearly-dying / whatever threads with some extra illogical complaints and semantics thrown in. :unamused:

Part of GW2’s appeal is that it _doesn’t_ have an endless vertical “progression” — run as fast as you can just to stay in the same place. As you said, most MMO’s have that so anyone who likes to grind for what will be made irrelevant can go play any one of those. The rifle skins, for example, make your toon look like a character in a shooter — it’s like a preview of a shooter game — but you can’t play like it. It feels like this is not a real game but a preview of real games. It’s like ordering a picture of a pizza. You get to look at the pizza, but you can’t eat it.

    > >

    > > It feels like a free alternative to real MMOs. This feeling is stronger now that a Living World season is going to compensate for the lack of content usually delivered by an expansion. “Real” MMOs are getting expansion. We are getting silence.

    > The real game is called life...anything else is a diversion that you apparently haven't learned to accept yet.

In that case, I’d like to send a message to that developer, as the “real game” is totally unbalanced, too much grind and feels like an ultimately lose scenario. Please fix — perhaps with an expansion? K, thx

    ;)

  13. As @"mindcircus.1506" said, Metabattle has a variety of builds, including intended for Open World. I like to start with one of these whenever a I am new to a profession, at least start with looking at what has worked for others and why. If you have a specific question, the forums here can also be helpful.

Have you checked out ranger? I think the trait lines and abilities and fairly straightforward and there are good threads about optimizing for different goals / content. From my experience, necromancer is easiest (both reaper and scourge are survivable and fun), followed by ranger (perhaps especially Soulbeast, or my core ranger might be too much my own attempted amalgamation, lol).

  14. Wow. I thought chrono had already been nerfed too much, but this... I don’t see how this was considered at all a good idea. As far as I can see, this has ruined the fun and utility of chrono in any game mode. Another spec I will not be playing any more. :(

    RIP chrono :skull:

  15. @"NYG.2568" are there any MMORPG’s that are really RPG’s? To my knowledge, SWTOR is the only one where you can choose how you react and make choices that influence your own story and NPC’s. I looked for a while and came to GW2 in part because I thought it would have some element of that, disappointed it doesn’t, but the game has met or exceeded my expectations in other ways. Still, if I could add just one thing to GW2, that would be it.

@"NanoEliteSixSixSix.8935" but their first paragraph was amusing at least, no? Confusing, but gave me amusing ideas about a game where once you realize it’s a game, you are promoted to the next level of the game... or something, Idk

    >

    > As a female Sylvari player, that's actually my biggest problem. I don't want my serious, cold, edgy Sylvari Reaper to smile and swing her arms. Sure, it's nice on my friendly Firebrand but it doesn't match my Reaper's personality. It annoys me more than it should. And I absolutely can't stand the "brain swipe" on Human/Norn females, their hands clip through the skull. Just give me an option to turn off idle animations on MY characters, that's all I want. I would pay real money for it!

That’s a good point! You’re right that the animations don’t fit more serious and certainly not colder / darker characters. IMO there should be a free option to toggle them off and Gem store options for different postures / idle animations. :)

  17. I don’t think I’m ever excited for a balance patch as they mostly entail nerfing which never excites me. I am, however, curious to look at the new options for Elementalist. I’ve always wanted to play a power/condi hybrid Ele and maybe these changes will make that more effective?

I’m not happy about the further nerfs to Druid and Chrono, but then they had already been nerfed too much for me to want to play either of them. :anguished:

  18. Okay, fair enough; variety is always appreciated. :) I didn’t think anything of it when it was just the spooky mount pack on sale but since a bunch of these themed items have reappeared this month, I was thinking there must be more to it but could not think of what it could be.

    @"Danikat.8537" lol!
