What is Joko's Staff capable of?

Something tells me that Awakening an eldritch creature of magic who's body isn't even entirely flesh and blood anymore is beyond even Joko's magnificent prowess.

Just don't tell any Mordant Crescent I said that, mkay?

But I suppose if he were to be able to Awaken any dragon minion at all, it'd be a risen or mordrem since they're fleshy. Even if one's planty flesh.

Joko's staff serves him tea every... oh, the other kind of staff, you mean. :p

The extend of his powers are vague, but in the Necropolis, it suggests that Joko might not even be needed to Awaken a human corpse. However, his generals are probably much weaker and thus can't do it as effectively as he can. Daybreak also shows that he can Awaken asura, which means it's not restricted to humans alone. What we don't know about the Awakened Inquest, though, is how long they had been dead before Joko brought them back. The body probably needs to be somewhat fresh, or at least intact, similar to how necromancy worked in GW1.

While this has no basis on in-game lore, the bigger a creature he's trying to Awaken, it probably needs more energy. The energy difference between an asura and a norn is negligible, but trying to raise a siege devourer would be much harder. I don't know how he created those giant beetle things that nearly always killed me, but they are a lot rarer than the base mummy troops he has lying around.

It is actually Abaddon's staff which Joko looked for after he was possessed by Abaddon himself. As he is now a vessel of Abaddon he knew where to find his staff and uses it to promote his occult magical agenda.

He reawakened Zhaitan so he can ride him through the Elonian skies.

Pretty certain that's correct, I heard it in a classroom and there's no way they'd lie to children. That would be just wrong

Do not be so certain there. The staff clearly has *some* importance, otherwise Joko wouldn't have cared so much about getting it back: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Scourge_of_Vabbi

His dialogue there also implies some power to the staff: _With this troublemaker out of the way and the scepter back in my possession, I will have no trouble keeping the others in line._

Besides, it wouldn't be [the first staff](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Scepter_of_Orr) known [to have](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Staff_of_the_Mists) a lot of [magical power within](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Slow_Totem).

agreed, staff's can have great magical abilities caught in the, Scepter of Orr just the same.

But I doubt it's Joko's Phylanctery (the lich container) which he needs to maintain his own undeadness and raise new undead.

Phylacteries don't really have a stable place in GW's lore. While there is [an ascended ring](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Khilbron%27s_Phylactery) implying such for Khilbron, we never needed to destroy it to kill him. Similarly, other liches both slain and not - including [The Hunter](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Hunter), [Zoldark the Unholy](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zoldark_the_Unholy), [Dragon Liches](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dragon_Lich), [Mazdak the Accursed](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mazdak_the_Accursed), [risen liches](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Champion_Risen_Lich), and arguably [Fendi Nin](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fendi_Nin) - are never indicated to have phylacteries, let alone need to have theirs destroyed to kill them.

Even Khilbron's Phylactery item lacks any lore relation, and could easily just be a pointless, loreless, flavor item like most other ascended trinkets.

The only other hints to phylacteries in the game are [Palawan Phylacteries](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Palawan_Phylactery) which drop off of champion/legendary Awakened. I doubt they're all liches, even the Champion Awakened Soldiers, which imply that should phylacteries house some place in GW's lore, it's not the same as traditional D&D.

Simply put, though they share terminology with typical fantasy (and especially D&D) they do not seem to share the same rules. Either "lich" or "phylactery".

The dialogue about Joko's staff indicates that it is capable of enhancing Joko's necromantic powers, or simply has limited control over undead (a weaker version of the Scepter of Orr, if you would).

True, true, but then we’re just down to the low bar of ‘we got no information at all’.

The staff got be very important, or just useful.. i guess we’ll see in the future
