Official Discord?

Recommended Posts

A number of communities have Discord channels that people find useful:

* [Reddit](https://discordapp.com/invite/guildwars2#sidebar2)

* GW2 Wiki: [Wiki Contributors](https://discord.gg/C4RMwPN) (just for discussing the wiki)

* [Dulfy](https://discord.gg/pRGgagp)

* [snowCrows](https://discord.gg/zzPYthA) (Raid speed-clearing guild, with top benchmark builds and guides)

* [Discretize](https://discordapp.com/invite/xGsc64) (High-end fractal guild, with guides and a stat-optimization tool)

* [MetaBattle](https://discordapp.com/invite/0jdZWe6xdIy46Yp5) (Curated builds for raids, fractals, pvp, wvw, & open world)

Additionally:

* Each WvW world has their own Discord (and often TeamSpeak or Mumble for more stable connections for larger groups)

* Several raid training guilds use Discord as their primary tool of communication

* Several popular meta-event guilds also use Discord, including those specializing in Dry Top, world bosses, challenging metas (e.g. Triple Trouble), full runs across Tyria, etc.

None of these are sponsored by ANet.

_edit per @"Greener.6204", updated the wiki link description_

Anet struggles with understanding of modern social media and communications. It has nothing to do with population.

That's a bit of a wild assumption there. I think they'd rather leave this sort of thing to the fan sites and such. There may be some advantages for a company itself to do something like an official discord but there are also many reasons not to do it. I think they understand modern media all too well.

Yep, just like showing restraint and not posting snide comments like yours is equally difficult, it seems.

You may be right.

That being said, I don't have an expectation that a gaming company will solve all of my issues for me.

Especially those outside of the game.

Clarifying note: The first link is unrelated to the wiki, and I believe it is the same as the reddit community link. That discord link was added to the [wiki page](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Discord "wiki page") because people were looking for the general game channel and ending up at the wiki focused one.

>! Not that we don't love people swinging by and joining! We just don't want to mislead people. We have cookies and cake, but we forgot the punch and balloons, so the wiki discord may not be the best place if you're looking for a party to join ;) .

Tbh, I don't blame ANet at all for not having a Discord. Forums are bad enough, with the type of things people post, and how quickly a topic can escalate when people provoke each other. Real-time chat would be even worse. Like the flooding on Twitch streams.

ANet would have all of the responsibility for the content in Discord (or the content they let remain on Discord), and fewer controls, since Discord is a third-party company with its own policies (e.g., ANet couldn't see and stop harrassment in PMs, because that's between Discord users on Discord, not under ANet's direct control to observe; they'd have to go by screenshots). At the end of the day, it's another area that would need heavy (and near-constant) moderation, and they'd have to have the staffing for that.

Firstly, Anet is too good for Discord.

If they want to get people together more then they need to start with Tinder. It doesn't get anymore social then that.

Here is what Anet really needs to do.

Step 1. Download the Grubhub App and order some sweet noms from Kobe on 110th Avenue. Get enough for everyone.

Step 2. Get a few people down to the lobby because you are going to need help bringing that hotness up.

Step 3. Don't forget to tip your Grubby Delivery Person.

Step 4. Get those noms up to Flo 5 before it gets cold.

Step 5. Gather around that big table you got, make sure everyone is comfy and can reach those napkins.

Step 6. Now eat that sweet goodness and talk about what an awesome idea Lexxguard had.

Step 7. Take a picture of that awesome idea and post it.

Step 8. Clean up after yourselves and get back to work damnit. I don't give you my money so you can sit around and eat all day.
