  1. ANET gets more sales by having certain items available periodically instead of all the time.

I know it sounds like it would be the opposite, but Disney has been doing it for years with their movies. They rotate which movies are produced and people rush to buy them because they don't know when it will be out again. If it were always available, parents would say "No" more often than "Yes." It's an interesting business model that I studied once, it's called the Disney Vault [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Vault](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Vault)

  2. The reason Open World content seems sparsely populated is that there are so many maps to choose from.

When PoF opened up, I could hardly get some HoT events completed because everyone was drawn to the new shiny. With every new chapter and new expansions uncovering parts of the world, the same numbers of people are spread out even further.

  3. I can't imagine having 26 characters, max bank tabs, and still needing more space. :o :o :o

I don't know you or what you have in your bank, but I'd start with a bit of space management.

Do you have a full 2K in material storage? I reduced by bank space by increasing mine to 1000 a while ago, no regrets.

Any soul-bound items from past/deleted characters? Those are useless now. I also put any soul-bound items in the storage of the character it's for.

With 26 characters, how many mules do you have? Any at all? I have one for Legendary crafting mats so I don't accidentally spend them, another for mats that don't fit in the 1000 limit bank tabs, and a third for runes/sigils and stuff.

If none of those apply to you, congrats you have a lot of stuff.

    > Fair enough. Might even want to just do it by chest: like 240+ for giant event chests, ~160-ish for smaller event chests, and don't bother applying a limiter at all on random minor ones. Because it definitely is fair to say there's no legitimate use for a portal in, e.g., the middle of the Frost Citadel final loot area.

I should have said "couldn't be placed within a certain distance of."

A similar argument came up soon after PoF mounts were established.

Should people have to dismount to interact with something on the ground: chests, farming nodes, banks, armor repair, etc. The replies were generally focused on the fact that the mount's bulk would hide those items so you would need to dismount. I replied that a person could still be on their mount over a chest/farm node/whatever not be in the process of opening it and still block it's view. In the end, I do think that farming nodes should be capable of being done while mounted (just QoL to aid in speed), while opening things should be done dismounted.

I just threw that out there to point out a radius that things couldn't be placed. Not a law that it couldn't possibly be any closer that that.

  6. There's too much "wrong" with crafting to list them all here.

Since when does it take multiple logs of wood to create one dowel? One log should create multiple planks (3), each plank should in turn create multiple dowels (3+). So you should be able to craft at a minimum 9 dowels per log of wood. But ..... never happen.

With metal ores, you will at least have a lot of slag and impurities that will be removed from the pure end-source. It's possible to start with multiple pounds of ore and end up with a single ingot.

Crystals/gemstones need to be carved down to make the facets align properly and you can't start over if you make a mistake. You need multiple sources to get the final piece you are looking for.

  7. Some footfalls are very prominent and others you'd never know a character has a Legendary.

I tend to listen to the news/podcasts while playing (I've never really cared for the sounds even in GW1). I'm not as concerned about them as you are, but understand your concerns.

Maybe if the footfalls would rise up out of the ground for one or two steps like the earth is disturbed by the passing of a powerful object: Frostfang would have icicles shoot up, The Incinerator may have fire, etc.

  8. TL;DR everything, maybe I'm on target or way off base

It's too early to worry about something we know nothing about.

People worried about elite specs, now we rarely use the core professions and we worried that mounts would ruin the game, now ask for more and different abilities.

    > Ambient mounts. Creatures that wander maps like the ambient creatures but you can jump on and ride around. Obviously they would not be as good as the regular mounts. Dolyaks come to mind thanks to another thread I just read but this could also be a way to get horses into the game.

Only if you can't control them (because they're wild) and you're stuck on them (holding on for dear life) for 30 seconds before being bucked of and stunned for 3 seconds.

Sounds like fun to ride a non-mount animal for a while.

  10. I'll bring a little reality into fantasy.

Bergmann's rule: within populations of a species the larger, heavier specimens are found in the northern climes while the the smaller variations are found near warmer climates.

Bison, moose, elk found -- north; most bovines, goats, and deer -- south

Polar bears, Kodiak, grizzly -- North; Black, sun, and panda -- south

I don't want to see just a scaled up human. Their extra bulk and muscle are from living in a much more harsh environment than temperate hum ans.

  11. As much as I initially didn't like HoT, I've come to like the map and it's complexity.

I can't find everything I want to and have a difficult managing the terrain on some of the maps. There are plenty of people who enjoy the taking a train around to show people where to find stuff. That's what makes the game fun, others helping you and in turn you payback later by joining a pug or helping with a Champion boss to gain an achievement.

Now that we can use Desert Mastery to complete Legendary weapons it opens up another option. I hope the new expansion also allows for Legendary completion, more options are better.
