It does, if it is correctly configured. Then both DNS queries as the internet data is being transferred through an encrypted tunnel to your VPN provider. Your ISP can read it but it is just random gibberish to them because it is encrypted.

Even if the match is terrible and we're getting out-skilled greatly by the other players.

Because this allowed me to come back after the call. Actually this did not happen because it ended up being quite a long call but that was something I only knew afterwards. And because I happened to go afk while standing on the skyhammer, I actually capped the next skyhammer because nobody else bothered to go there.

    > Did arenanet pay you to write something positive in the forum. I always make PvP more points loss than that I rise and I have just over 100 points with a good 30 games. Mostly I lose about 10 games and then I win one. Then I lose again about 10 games. What actually happens when the points fall to 0. Do they also go into the minus range?

I don't work for ArenaNet nor get paid by them. And if you dig in my history you will find enough criticism to see that I'm not just another fanboy. For example, how ArenaNet seems to have [abandoned their own cheat preventing game design](https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/26462/game-cheats-and-cheat-prevention).

But still, I'm in absolute love with this game, even with the issues that exist and the problems that have been ignored for too long. GW2 still is a masterpiece.

And back to the matchmaking for ranked: I honestly think it is doing quite a nice job actually.

  4. The ranked matchmaking system is great. This is my honest opinion as a silver-3 to gold-2 skilled player. I know there is a lot of b*tching about the matchmaking system and that many ranked games are unbalanced. This is true. Why do I think the matchmaking is still great I hear you ask? **Because it evens everything out in the long run. It strives to a 50/50 win/loss ratio and it is quite successful at doing so.** And because every win requires another team to lose, a 50/50 ratio IS the optimum to keep everyone playing.

It is all about your player skill rating. The placement matches give a rough estimate of this.

If you keep winning, your rating was most likely too low so you gain in rating and also in the difficulty of your matches. In this way, you can see every win as an extra credit to future losses.

If you keep losing, your rating was most likely too high so you lower in rating and also in the difficulty of your matches. In this way, you can see every loss as an extra credit to future wins.

Yes, this is always being adjusted for all team members and you are only 1/5th of the team, but in the long run these numbers work out surprisingly well.

Yes, there are winning- and losing streaks. I've had them. I think 15 losses in a row was the most and it is absolutely devastating to my morale. But surprise surprise, it was immediately followed by a long winning streak. Yes, there are absolutely terrible matches. But overall I think the ranked matchmaking system is doing a nice job.

I see one major improvement tho. And that is that the player skill rating should be kept and applied **per profession**. For example: I always play Elementalist and I am silver-3 to gold-2 there. But when I would switch to anything else, I would be an absolute newbie and belong to the underside of the bronze ratings. But the game does not take that in consideration now, and I think it should.

  5. Today my mom called me from hospital while I was in a match and I typed _"Phone, sry"_ and went AFK for most of the match. Because of my action, we lost the match. I am sorry for this but my mom is quite sick and I wanted to answer the phone. Normally I never go AFK in team games because I do not want to ruin things for my team. Even if the match is terrible and we're getting out-skilled greatly by the other players.

I often report other players for being AFK if they don't give a reason or if they go idle with the reason of giving up on our team/match.

    >

    > ~~ This right here. But all builds that are not "u am +1 go cap uncontest point also" are swiftly nuked because they go outside thief's "role". Then the builds that perform the role get tapped down too because people don't like thieves being able to run away just as much as they don't like them doing damage.~~

    > I can't tell if this is sarcasm, a commentary on an actual thought process by an elementalist/satire, or genuine.

Sry, I got autism and hardly ever use satire.

This is my **opinion** as someone who played a lot of sPvP but only as Elemenstalist/Tempest and came across tons of thieves during my journeys.

  7. Not dead, because they have excellent movement speed, invisibility and spike damage compared to other professions.

In sPvP, a thief will more often than not kill my Elementalist and if not be extremely annoying by stealth capping any unguarded points with great speed and little risk.

Even when I try to run away from a losing battle with superspeed, swiftness and ride the lightning, a thief still keeps at my location and kills me.

Also, it is very hard to keep target selection on a thief enemy, same with a mesmer enemy.

Sure, with a sustained battle, I thief will lose most of the time, unless it is a deadeye that can do its damage from a safe distance. But all professions have their pros and cons.

Today some guardian enemy wondered why I was 'invincible' with my tempest. And the next match a thief killed me in 2 seconds.

  8. This is the only DRM challenge I have not been able to complete yet. Not even once. A bit of easing would be welcome to make the difficulty level comparable to the other DRMs and the strike mission achievements.

Also: Is it okay to use the electromagnetic pulse now? My party members complain about bugs when I'm using it, and when I do not use it we fail to break the bar most of the time.

  9. Because ArenaNet promised that there would be no timely fees for GW/GW2. Ever.

When the timely fees become voluntary, the risk exists that more and more quality of life features will become subscription-only. This will reduce the gaming experience of the current player base that may have chosen for Guild Wars 2 because they like a one-time payment instead of a recurring one.

I know nothing about that, but it could be worth to log into your router and try to disable features like packet inspection, firewall, blocklists.

First make screenshots of your existing settings so you can put everything back when needed. Then test if this solves anything.

  11. A monitor is usually something that survives several PC systems so it is worth getting a decent monitor.

    Some things to consider:

    1. GW2 will rarely hit the high refreshrate you are looking for. A high-refreshrate monitor may still be worth the money as future proofing or if you play FPS games.

    2. IPS and VA panels have good color reproduction and viewing angles. Avoid TN panels if you care about image quality.

    3. Ultrawide screens of 3440x1440 and better are awesome to experience the beautiful landscapes of Tyria.

  12. Does it look like mine?

This one was most likely caused by my security software Malwarebytes messing with the connection between my game client and the ArenaNet servers. So, what you can do except for contacting support is checking if anything interferes with your connection. This can be a firewall, antivirus, vpn, net filter etc.

I'm still using malwarebytes today and this issue has long been resolved.

  13. Well, the start was excellent.

Grothmar Valley, Bjora Marches and Drizzlewood Coast all were great maps with nice events. The metal concert also was awesome.

Visions of the Past: Steel and Fire was okay but the achievements were very grindy.

And since the Champions releases things have gone downhill fast with no new maps and little story content.

So, in short: All releases that brought new maps: Great, awesome and good quality. Champions releases: Very disappointing.

I hope next release will come with a new map again because it is overdue.

    > At first it was very frustrating cuz i was joining those all welcome teams. Then my experience was very similar to yours, I'd join tournament expecting 1 win. Then i started joining g3 p1 teams i things got a lot better like 2 3 wins every tournament

Well, most of the wins actually were real teams with normal games at a level playing field. It's just that half of the teams are platinum or higher which means no chance at all to win. And I guess one quarter are gold and one quarter are silver, bronze and the occasional afk bot team.

I'm now at gold rank on my second account and doing slightly better with around one win per tourney. Plat teams still win with 3 points capped and trolling us at our spawn but the others are a bit better now with gold+ teams.
