This was just an example that its possible to do. Overlays and shader injections should be fine though as those don't directly change a game but rather work differently. > @"Dawdler.8521" said: > > @"Veprovina.4876" said: > > But it's only on the client side so idk how Anet seees those. Not that we need glowing skins since everyone already look like walking glowsticks but you get the idea. > Yeah, modifying game files in an mmo is a big no no. Even if its just some more or less harmless asset flips. I mean, for anyone else, that player in the video looks normal, with a normal skimmer I presume. But you never know how else can that affect others etc.

  3. You can do all the story solo. Even if you die, there's always a checkpoint which often just respawns you in the middle of the fight exactly where you left off. So it doesn't matter, you can just throw yourself at the problem until it resolves itself.
  4. Bloodstone ones are the best. They're basically legendary - especially if you don't intend to constantly have infusions in them. And even then it's not that much more expensicve to take them out first. I have multiple sets of those for my characters, and i'll get another set just because.
  5. > @"Hesione.9412" said: > Thank you both for your helpful comments. With all the glitzy particle effects on wings, influsions, etc, can reshade tone that down, or does it make those effects even glitzier? It can tone it down, but you'll have to kinda get creative. There's i think no such thing as "anti bloom", but you can tone that down by say, adjusting the curves and levels plugin. Other plugins will of course have an effect on that too, and like @"Astyrah.4015" said, some of them have negative values, you can try that depending on what you want. I mean, it lets you directly control each color channel, i'm sure you can find a combination of values that will be satisfying. Of course, try it with and without game post processing, see what looks better. You can either tone down the ingame effects, or lose the post processing in game and "simulate" the effects with Reshade. Both options are valid, each will have a different result, depends on what you like. When you install it for the first time, it'll ask you which "plugin effects" to install. You can check up on some of them online what they do, but the documentation on them is not always the best. So if you don't know what they do, just install all of them. It will only ever load the ones you enable on game start so it won't make game loading that much longer if you have all of them. And that way you have options to mess with.
  6. Just a suggestion - try putting post processing to low, then "subduing it" with reshade. Since reshade is a "filter" of a kind on top of what's being shown - if it isn't shown then it can't do anything about it. So ironically, to tame the postprocessing and the effects, first have them on and then use reshade to bring them to how you like it. It can look the way you want to, but of course, you'll have to play with all the settings a lot til you get it to how you like it. Hope you have a good GFX card and a processor though, some of the effects are very power hungry. Also, expect whatever you do with reshade to have an effect on the arcdps and any other plugin on screen. So you'll kinda have to do "all of it" at once, i don't think there's an option to exclude some render elements. And of course with any 3rd party plugins, if it crashes, there's no support. But other than that, if you have the raw horsepower for it, reshade is a great tool to make the game look like you want it to!

I still remember the mechanics of playing my characters, but I am completely lost in the game world. I've been nose-to-the-grindstone in my career for the past four years, and finally have a bit of time to enjoy playing again, but I genuinely don't even know where to start in picking back up. I have two full ascended chars, with 7 other partially ascended.....don't even know if that still means anything. > > Any help would be very kind! My biggest hope through this post would be to find some folks to mob around with, but even just links to any form of post mordremoth guide would be helpful! The beauty of this game is that once you get ascended - you're set for life. There is never going to be a "better" set. Even legendaries have the same numbers as ascended. So ascended will be more than enough for everything you want to tackle. The only thing you might wish to do is change the stat combinations on it if your current one is either not as good as you remember or maybe you want to ty something different. In which case - https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stat_changing It's easy to do. Just don't throw a precursor in the Mystic forge as it will get destroyed. You can't stat change trinkets, but if you have LS3, play the story, get all the maps and each one has a vendor that sells stat selectable trinkets. Bloodstone trinkets are the best because you can reset them for extremely cheap and change their stats for 100 unbound magic. Other than that, i suggest following the story, doing the open world metas when you want (to get loot and map currency for fashion and stuff), fractals for gold and when you finish all the stories, you'll have a good general idea what's what and what you want to do after. This will in turn level your masteries so you can do more content more easily. Especially when you unlock mounts. You can also do WvW and PvP if you're into that kind of stuff. Those are separate from the story so you can do it whenever. Anyway... When you're doing story - you'll see what the game has to offer and you'll have a better idea what's there to do. At that point, set a goal for yourself - maybe you want to unlock Skyscale (a flying mount) when you're done with LS4 story, maybe you want to make a legendary, maybe you want some cool fashion armor so you do the achievements for it etc. There's tons of stuff to do, you just need to decide which content you want to do, like, what's your goal. For instance, mine is currently unlocking full set of Requiem armor and Dragonsblood weapons (just a few, not full set of those). So i'm doing the achievements necessary to unlock it and farming currency that i need for it. Before that i did Skyscale achievements which took me 2 weeks from start to finish. But i mainly play WvW so i do that stuff in the meantime. So again, start with story, then you'll see what you like and just do that then. Wellcome back to the game!

Most directx 12 games out there are also supporting directx 11, when directx 11 was new, games supported both it and directx 10, same with 9 and 10. > > Not sure why having multiple rendering pipelines is such an alien concept on these forums. It has been done since the early days of 3D computer graphics. Those that have the hardware will take adventage of it, those who don't, will see no difference. Most of the work for the content creators, 3D models, textures, animations, music, sound, gameplay is not gonna be affected in any meaningful way. Yes but... dx2py doesn't work for everyone. So not everyone will have a performance boost. I tried it, didn't do anything for me. That mod is only for extreme high end graphics cards as it uses those best. Also, you kinda proved my point? If the game also needs to support dx11 and down up to 9 as if to not alienate people with lower system specs - we already have dx9 - just optimise that one which will in turn also help people with stronger systems. If they can optimise it for a potato and make it work there, then it'll work on anything stronger. But it won't look good if such an old game suddenly stops working for lower system specs because it's dx12 optimised, but dx9 still doesn't work. And if they make both optimised that's just double the work when the argument is - if the dx9 version gets optimised and works for every system what benefit does dx12 have? I mean, if you could get 60+ stable fps in dx9 without dropping in heavily populated areas what benefit does dx12 bring to the table then? And evidence of other games running dx9 suggests that it's totally possible to have a dx9 game not be optimised like garbage and run fully stable on recommended specs and up. So why can't Guild Wars 2? Why does GW2 need a completely different renderer (like people suggested it is compared to 9) that will require a completely different engine rework and system to be stable? And yeah, i get it, the code might be really bad but what you're suggesting is have both DX9 and DX12 versions. As stated in this thread and others DX12 can't work on this version because the renderer and how it handles stuff is incompatible meaning the game engine would need a complete rework. So you're suggesting both a complete rework with DX12 and DX9 optimisation that would bring it up to par with DX12 (so that it's not different). Sooo.... I don't get why that's better than just keeping DX9 and making it work? Because it CAN work... And no, DX12 doesn't work with older systems, so it's either DX12 capable hardware or no game for you if they switch to DX12. DX12 capable hardware does support older versions, but a DX9 graphics card won't be able to run a DX12 game. (unless they changed how this works recently - in which case, someone correct me)
  9. > @"Cleopatra.4068" said: > Why do people think switching from DX9 to DX12 is something that even can be done? > > Those libraries are so different it would probably require rewriting the entire code base. It is not like you can just download a new version of directX and install it. DX9 and DX12 have almost nothing in common. They don’t work the same on a fundamental level. One does all the shading and effects itself, and the other requires the programmers to do it all. The entire graphics engine would have to be thrown away and rewritten. > > If the code is completely modular and not tightly coupled at all, it might theoretically be possible, but considering the age of the code, I sincerely doubt that it is. The longer people mess with a code base, the more new features get added, the more tightly coupled junk code gets added by people in a hurry, or trying to fix unforeseen bugs. > > I don’t know anything about the GW2 code, but I’ve coded using both DX9 and DX12, and I don’t think people realize how ridiculous they sound asking for an upgrade to be done. It isn’t going to happen. They might as well make GW3 if they are going to switch graphics libraries. I agree. DX12 isn't going to magically fix the performance problems. Those stem from something else because there's tons of DX9 games that still work perfectly fine on any hardware and just "somehow changing to DX12" isn't going to do anything except alienate people with lower hardware specs. There's lots to be done to the engine without fundamentally changing it, and it CAN run smoothly, i've seen it even on my half potato when they do optimisation updates (that inevitabely revert back after a while sadly). Something is definitely "wrong" with the engine, but it's not the directX version.
  10. Basically, just have proper gear and build, and learn what CC is and how to break blue bars. If you have 5 different stat combinations mixed on your gear, one power, other condi and third healing, don't expect to be doing great. But 80+ content - if you're talking about story, map metas and open world - doesn't really get that much more difficult. You can get away with a lot of unoptimised builds - i know because i run one of those "fun unoptimised" builds and i have no problem. The only endgame content that requires anything is Raids and CM Fractals. If you want to do those, find a raid guild and religiously follow what they tell you to run, what skills, what gear, how and when - otherwise they're going to kick you out - and if you want to run CM fractals, you first need to complete a 100 of them and craft yourself full ascended and enough Agony Resistance to even attempt. By that time, you'll have enough experience in easier fractals that you'll know what to expect. But also don't expect to run your own builds because people will kick you out of their parties. In raids and CM fractals it's "meta build or gtfo", so there's that... For open world, just have a build that does decent damage so that you don't have to spend 5 minutes fighting every trash mob you come across and you'll be fine. Everything else you can learn as you go. People in open world are very helpful and will explain stuff if you ask. So get some lvl 80 exotic equipment, runes and sigils that match your build and just dive into it. It's not THAT harder.

Wait, what are you talking about, what improvements? The only thing you suggested is to "play the game in a resolution higher than 800X600 - which all of us do, i don't think anybody plays the game in 800x600 and changing the resolutions doens't change previews. I don't see an answer to the question "i play in 1440p - how do i fit the entire character in the preview window". If the "solution" is "don't play in 800x600 - i don't, i play in 1440p which is why i asked you how do i fit a Norn or a Charr in that window and preview greatswords and staffs fully. Also, what are the characters on the screenshot, are they human or norn?

Not that the price is always "fixed" as in "the same".
  13. Until Anet raises the supply there's nothing you really can do about it. It is what it is.

That Null Field should be unblockable and not proc Aegis since every other profession utility boonstrip is unblockable, and a lot of other boonstrips are too.

But that's why WvW armor takes longer to make. > > WvW armor lets you just play the WvW content in whatever way you want. "PvE" armor requires you to play PvE in a very specific way, that lies outside of how most PvE players spend time there. The similar case for WvW would be if you could progress WvW armor only by doing one, specific WvW activity (for example, only by capturing red keep on desert borderland, and only limited number of times per week. Or, say, by winning GvG matches in obsidian sanctum arena - again, only limited number of times weekly. Although frankly i am not sure if there even **is** a WvW activity that would be as niche as raids are for PvE). In that way, current WvW path is vastly superior for WvW players than Raid one for PvE players. I know, i just said that's the reason why it takes longer. Because you "just do it" by playing, no collections, no nothing. The time gates are a bit "meh", they shouldn't be THAT severe but whetever, at least you don't have to do anything else.

Yeah, that's why WvW armor requires about 10x the amount of time to make. Which isn't balanced in my opinion because you have TacO, Youtube and all sorts of guides for that armor, the collections aren't that "stressful", come on. 18. Here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skirmish_Chest Transmutation charges galore. I just yesterday got 250 dyes out of them just for the lulz and threw the duplicates in the mystic toilet because i don't ever plan on having more than 2 stacks of those (and i do). Play WvW, you can do it casually, doesn't matter for skirmish chests, and alongside your reward track transmutation charges, you can get them from the chests too. If you play WvW just one day a week for longer periods or multiple days a week for a few hours you can have tons of them very soon. Depends of course how much you're spending. I don't even complete diamond each week and i have tons of them. You get 5 charges just for completing Wood tier. And that can be done easily, you can even afk farm it or just tag camps. If you play in outnumbered maps, you get double the pips. If you play more and complete bronze, that's 10. Silver is another 6 on top of that, and so on and so on. I fail to see how transmutation charages are a problem. If you don't want to play WvW, fine, there's PvE ways of obtaining them, but you have plenty of ways of getting them in game as it is.

  20. I love how people are comparing WoW to GW2. Like, yeah if i'm paying $15 a month just to play, i expect things like cosmetics and changes to be free. Why don't you spend $15 a month in the gemstore instead? Then you'll have all the transmutation charges you want, plus other cosmetics. Also, they're already free in game, go play WvW and farm them. And no "i don't play WvW" is not an excuse. It's a mode that rewards transmutation charges, it's in the game, the fact that you don't play it doesn't mean that the charges aren't free. I'm constantly switching parts of my outfits and weapons and i constantly hover around 70 charges. If i was to not change something for a month, i'd be swimming in them.
  21. UPDATE: I know it's been a whiel but whatever, i thought i should add this for people to see. I got the Lyssa backpack, and they transform every time you mount/dismount! So since people constantly do that nowdays, you'll see that animation a lot of the time. So for anyone who was bummed you don't see it often, you actually do. Not in combat, and only once on equip, but then after that - every time you mount or dismout. So... A lot.

So all the people that argue how mirage had cloak and that's somehow better than a dodge, have them use it for a month in WvW, let's see how OP it is. Especially with just one dodge. And all the people that argue that the game isn't balanced around 2 dodges, let's remove a dodge in PvE as well and see how many raid wings and fractals get done and how people like being unable to double dodge out of an aoe. If nothing else, they'll see how awkward it is.

Any stunbreak recovers from knockdown/stun/daze, basically any condition that is indicated bu the purple debuff icon and lays your character out on the ground. For me, stun breaks are among the first abilities I make sure to hotkey on every class for every game I play, and I very quickly found out that abilities marked as stun breaks got rid of all hard cc's. This also taught me the utility of soft cc's like cripple, chill, and immobilize - I knew that I could throw those at targets in pvp who were using stability and stunbreaks, and find ways to pin them down regardless. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > EDIT: oops had this page open for too long, didn't see that someone basically made the same response already. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Then let me repeat myself. The only one I can think of that does this off the top of my head is the Icebrood Trolls in Bitterfrost Frontier. They have an AoE stun that locks you in place for 5 seconds, and it puts stun breaks on cooldown. To extrapolate this to be the norm, however, is incredibly misleading. Nowhere near as common place as they are made out to be by the sounds of things here. Oh it's definitely not common, like i said previously, there's only a few areas that do this, and a few mobs. There's normal CC spam in a lot of areas, but you can get stability there and not care about it (if you have it), or use normal stunbreaks.

It's a freeze? That might be it then! I might got it confused for a knockdown... I'll play for a few days, see if i can find some stuff, now i'm interested as well.

Yes, that's exactly what i'm talking about! Thank you! That's what i meant for those knockdowns. Cause i know you can't do anything about them like you can with "normal" stuns. And i don't even mind those as well.
