Please look at the two posts below.

This is essentially why I don't want this. Its the same reason I dislike the idea of added SAB mount skins, or when I see giant pink norn with pink handlebar mustaches and either the moot or the fairy wand. Plus as mentioned by someone else above hairstyles are cultural in many aspects. I suppose I could see norn's and humans having some interchangeability, but I don't think it could work so well for the other races as it doesn't really make sense. Humans could I guess model their hair after some sylvari styles for instance, but some just aren't feasible. Same for how the charr interweave metal into some of their hairstyles for instance. I could see there being a few similar hairstyles modeled in the fashion of another cultures but doubt it would or should go any further.

  2. First off welcome back to the game friend~

May I suggest as a first step that if you are looking to get back into the game and improve you search for a guild? If you are into PvP there are guilds out there who do exclusively that and a few of them are new player friendly and willing to help you learn the ropes.

Secondly I haven't ever played WoW (to poor as a kid lol) but I'm guessing affliction warlock is a spellcaster that uses conditions a lot? If so you might enjoy necromancer, they're not a bad class to start out with and have the potential to do a good bit of damage. As for stealth yes GW2 has primarily thieves and mesmers in that category, both of which are capable of stealthing and doing high burst damage. Engineer also has some access to stealth but its not so built in as the previous two classes.

You can always check [Metabattle](https://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki "Metabattle") for some decent builds that'll show you what to use and help give you a basic idea of whats good right now, what you'll need, and how to play it until you start to decide more on your own and can make your own tweaks. Luckily for you everyone in PvP is level 80 and gear doesn't matter, just what stats you equip to your character in the lobby, so you can start testing immediately. ^^

    > > No hate comment (because I love SAB) but if you want valid reason for why SAB stuff shouldn't be out in the open world, here it is. It's a virtual reality environment that exists only inside the Super Adventure Box. Which means you'd need the necessary hardware to see SAB stuff outside of the actual box. As long as this game doesn't have virtual reality headsets for our characters, they shouldn't even be able to see all those SAB minis, weapons and gliders. All those other joke skins you're talking about are not VR objects and are designed within the visual parameters of Tyria. That's where the difference lies.

    >

    > Again Tyria is not Earth. Everything in the game world defies all physics and logic of Earth. All the lore breaking and art style wrecking comments are hilariously wrong. The asurans have floating hammock beds TONS of flashy holographic computers (which by the way are the same thing art and graphics as sab mini pets and weapons) if you make any argument that SAB breaks the game lore or artstyle then you are also saying the Asurans in general do too.

    >

    > Theres a random human shaped anomaly that appears randomly throughout Tyria, it even spawns within SAB. Asuran experiments are always physics and reality breaking, heck an NPC in Rata Sum even mentions how the water near an accident flows the opposite direction. Imo people who make those arguments against SAB just was something to hate and have nothing better to do.

"...people who make those arguments against SAB just was something to hate and have nothing better to do"

He literally started his post with "No hate comment" and gave a logical, well thought our reply to the topic of this thread lol. Comments like this basically make it look like you are saying "either you agree with me or your wrong and can get off my thread" which really isn't helpful if your trying to have a discussion justifying why something deserves/doesn't deserve to exist within the game.

Its the same vibe I felt when I posted on this thread previously which is why I stopped replying, and the only reason I'm looking at it again right now is because people keep quoting each other and leaving all the previous quotes in, which tags me every time even though I'm not being addressed. >>"

    > I tend to disagree. The feeling that GW2 has an overly friendly community is quite artificial since large parts of the game are designed to avoid any kind of conflict between players. If you get into more multiplayer-focused content like raids or high-tier-fractals, you'll see quite early that the GW2-community or at least parts of it can be utterly toxic just like in every other MMORPG which focuses on multiplayer-activities.

In fairness that is higher level content and you can expect a lot of the more tryhard people to be there. There are a myriad of other helpful people out though from mesmers who stay at jumping puzzles just to help people (multiple guilds for this in fact), people running across the map just to assist you with an event you can't solo, mentors that stay in starting zones to help out new players, even the folks who give a quick /cheer or congratz whenever someone links a new legendary weapon they just made in chat that they're proud of. Every community has some less than accommodating people, but GW2 does a very good job of minimizing that and the community as a whole tries to keep it up. No ones saying that _every_ person in the community is great and wonderful, but the gamers present here for the most part are a pretty nice bunch and I think that's something worth celebrating.

  5. Glad to see I'm not the only one who still wishes for this qol change. I posted a thread a good while about it with my reasoning so I'll just be lazy and quote it. -w-

    > Little Christmas wish of mine/ question I wanted to ask. Are the dev team ever planning to add a way to preview cosmetic auras? There's two primary changes I'd love added to this sector of the game, the first would be being able to preview auras on your character as many of them are worth quite a bit of gold and before shelling out all that money it would be great to see if the look you designed fits in with it, or if its totally off base from what you thought it would be. An example that recently brought this idea back would be the new Snow Diamond Infusion. I like the infusion, and I think it looks rather cool (hehe pun), but the only way for me to see how it looks is by hoping players who do have it post screens. I finally found a video today of how it looked on a pale asura, but i'd love to be able to preview it on different characters and skin tones to see how the effects changed, or be able to see how it would look with a poly-luminescent infusion combined with it, etc. I absolutely love fashion in this game and these are some of the best looking (and most expensive) items cosmetic wise but as much as I'd love to play around with them I often can't justify spending all the time and gold going after one when I can't guarantee I'll like the end result.

    >

    > The second addition I think could be helpful would be to allow the makeover kit previews, both from the kit itself or the NPC, to register auras as it can have an effect. Bringing it back to the snow diamond infusion i'd love to be able to see how it looks on different skin tones in the makeover kit without actually having to use a kit to change my skin color every time, and would make finding a good combination a lot simpler. Plus if someone didn't want the infusion on there while previewing their character changes they could easily just unequip the item before opening the panel and it would be just as it is now.

    >

    > I know these changes aren't really important in the grand scheme of things but considering how big of a role fashion plays in this game and all the new auras and effects you've been so kind as to gift us with I know for me personally this is one of my most wanted qol changes in the game which is why I wanted to ask if there were any plans to add this into the game at some point, or if I should just keep on dreaming. That would mean that either sylvari hounds randomly started growing a lot bigger for no reason, or that there have always been giant ones we just never saw or the sylvari thought about riding. I suppose from an individual player perspective it could be a rare mutation or strong veteran one that grew larger than its companions but even that is a bit of a stretch. I have mixed feelings about it tbh, as I understand the thematic want for it but can't find a good enough reason to justify it.

No some of the others don't as well that's true. Branded mounts in particular, and many people had a problem with them upon their release. I will say though @derd.6413 has a decent concept for a way to add them so I guess they'd be better than the branded ones in that sense.

Ah so similar to the branded backpack from the shatterer achievements but as an infusion then?

    > With all the negativity and laws being drafted about Loot box gambling, and gambling to minor you think the devs would have learned. But nope. $5 to gamble for a skin or $15 to buy one.

Go play WoW then and pay $15 a month just to play the game good Lord. People ask and beg to have mounts added to the game and they get them. Then people want skins for the mounts, they get them. Then people don't like the mounts are rng, everyone says they'd be happy just to have an option to buy the one skin they wanted even for a higher price, and sure enough here it is and look at that people are still complaining. Get over it and buy the skin you want, or don't in which case you can either go back to enjoying the game just as you were before today because it is a skin and you don't NEED it, or go somewhere else. Pick one, I don't care which, and get over it. I teach 3rd graders who don't whine as much as some of the adults in here. And thank you to all those people who made positive comments about how it's a positive step or your happy with the new option, I might not have lived through all the salt in this thread without your help.

    > Related to this topic, how can you people stand to have two characters of the same race/gender combination when every character of that combo has the exact same voice? I like to imagine my characters having different personalities, and the voice is a big part of that, so it annoys me too much when I have, e.g. two human females with the exact same voice when I've pictured them to be very different people. And because I don't like charrs and norns that much, this means I've pretty much hard-capped myself at 6 characters... (one of either gender for asura, human and sylvari)

Hm to be quite honest I'd never thought about it. I guess the voice had never been a huge thing for me. Each of my characters has their own lore and personality it's true, but a lot of the time the voice just translates in my head I guess? How to explain...I guess for me it's like watching animes with subtitles. I hear their voice as it should be, but in my head it just auto translates into their voice in English as I watch. Does that make sense lol?

  11. While I feel like this would be something pretty low on the list for Anet, I do still see where your coming from in the aspect that certain players, such as the first responder to this thread, can be less than kind sometimes and mess with a good moment someone is trying to have. I frequently see people in LA link their gifts and precursor before making a legendary and I and many other players always toss out a little congratz to em and move on. It's a big deal for some people, so I think it's important to be supportive, but while that's what I generally do and see from others I know it's not always the case.

    > Swap to male, set the male horns that enable the new horns on female, swap back, new horns appear on existing female. Nothing is permanent until you choose the final iteration.

Oh? I misunderstood then, I thought you'd actually have to make the change first or it wouldn't take effect when used. That's much less bad then.

Ah I see, well you picked an excellent first choice to get you started then! GW2 has a little bit of everything for everyone and is known for having one of the friendliest gaming communities around where you can almost always find someone to lend you a hand or answer a question. A few things I might recommend:

    * Continue doing your personal story and focus on leveling to 80 right now with your character, that will help get you some basic knowledge about the game and how your class is played.

    * Once you've gotten your first character to level 80, I would advise using your empty character slots to create one of each profession and test them out in the PvP lobby. You can create a character then delete it later to try out the other ones, and by doing so in the pvp lobby you are instantly level 80 and have all of your skills and traits open to you. Everyone has certain playstyles they like better than others, and you may still enjoy the character you've been playing on thus far, but you may also realize how much you love another class as well and want to give them a try. I for example didn't try necromancer my first two years playing the game, I never thought I'd enjoy it, then one day I got one shot in pvp by one using lich form and decided to give it a shot and its since become one of my most played classes and my main toon for pve, I even have 5 of them now. Point being give every class a try and see what you like the best and hey if you want you can always buy a few more character slots and have one of each!

    * I would still recommend joining a nice guild, emphasis on the word nice. You don't have to join the first one you see, look around a little and see what players you meet and come across while you play and explore. You might meet a group of really nice people who assist you or a player willing to help you learn the ropes and inquire about if their guild is recruiting and what type of stuff they do. Just because a guild is max level and has 200+ members does not mean they are always the best option after all. Look for an active guild with a core group of nice players who are willing to help one another out and maybe even run some fun events every so often. Whats good about this is that even if they don't know how to answer a question or help you out with certain content they've likely been around long enough they know people who can or can at least point you in the right direction.

    * Ask for help. Seriously if your ever stuck and something is really blocking your path, just ask for some assistance. Maybe its a step in the story that you've tried half a dozen times now and keep getting killed on, maybe its a mechanic you don't understand, maybe you just want some company, just ask either in game or even on the forums here, people will help you. Don't let a bad experience turn you off from the game.

    * Once your level 80 try out all the game modes, and when you venture into PvP or WvW do not be discouraged. They're both a lot different than PvE as your up against actual players, many of whom have been here for a lot longer, but thankfully theres no real gear treadmill in GW2 so you can get the same stats and gear as they can for the most part, the biggest thing will just be learning how to play your class and whats best for that mode and the role you want to fill. Maybe you want to be a thief in PvP, ganking players between points and outrotating your enemy. Maybe you want to head into WvW and run with your servers zerg and be on the frontline with your guardian, healing and supporting your team with boons while smashing enemies in the face with a mace, there are loads of different options. If either mode seems like it has the potential to be interesting or fun for you, but your having trouble understanding it or improving, there are guilds made specifically for PvP and WvW who are always actively recruiting and look to help out new players because they want more people to join their community and they are willing to put in the extra work to train and equip you if it means getting another person to actively play with, particularly in WvW.

    * Remember above all else this is a game, and the objective is to have fun. I think having a good group to play with really makes this part easier to achieve for a lot of people, thats the reason to come to MMO's after all otherwise why not just play single player. Don't let a bad experience or a lack of knowledge push you away from the game. It seems like a lot I know, and sometimes the vast amount of stuff in this game can be overwhelming to new players who don't know where to go, but that's just because this isn't a game where you beat the final boss and your done, this is an adventure, its your story. You can play this game any way you want and have fun and move forward, and thats one of the most wonderful things about it. GW2 is a world for the players, make it your own however you see fit.

  14. Gotta say norn are my least favorite, they're just so hard to like for me. Out of my 42 characters I do have 2 though but they're both heavies covered in armor (and even then one of them bothers me because instead of covering his arms the gloves I use on him have parts of his arms glitch through them but they're dark so it looks like little random blobs poking out sometimes --")

Asura I really love but I always have to use a makeover kit if I plan on them not wearing a mask or helm since I dislike pretty much all the default faces.

  15. I started making the Binding of Ipos since I had already done PoF map comp for the funerary set but once I realized how much it took from PoF just to get the various gifts and materials I realized I'd be much better off just going back and using the HoT gift as you said, because it's considerably easier especially now that we have mounts to navigate the terrain there. It's a shame since I like the PoF maps a lot more but oh well, is what it is.

  16. > @"Inculpatus cedo.9234" said:

    > Why do you need to use 2 Total Makeover Kits? Unless, of course, you are making-over 2 different characters.

If you already have a female charr for instance and you want to give her the new horns to do so you would have to first change her to make with one kit then back to female with a second. If you were making a new character or didn't care about the arc change it would only take one because you could make the new character the opposite race or just not swap back if you didn't care that your charr was now a different sex (though I feel most people would care).

  17. First off welcome to the game my friend~

Secondly your already on the right track looking for a good guild to join, thats an important first step that can really help you get into the game faster and stay with it longer as it opens up doors and gives you a core group of like-minded people to play with if your lucky. One thing to keep in mind when asking for a group is what type of content are you into? Are you wanting to play all of the modes? Is PvE your thing where you like to push hard to the endgame content and stand at the top or are you more of a casual player who just enjoys playing and exploring the world? Do you enjoy PvP and fighting other players on small teams? Maybe you would like to try out WvW where you fight on a map with armies of other players crashing together on the battlefield and laying siege to towers and keeps. Do any of these seem interesting to you, or maybe even all of them as there are guilds who participate in all modes. You could also be in more than one if you'd prefer to have a PvE focused one and then a WvW focused one for instance. So after you've become more acquainted with the game of course, what do you think you'd like to get into?

  18. > @"AtlasSi.9130" said:

    > Would this be considered a banable offence? That's really the only thing holding me back from doing it.

Certainly not. You are not exploiting the game in any way and the only potential benefit you could gain from this is just self satisfaction in your own appearance. You are not manipulating the market, affecting anyone else in gw2, or using any potentially mischievous methods to achieve something that could put you ahead. I would be extremely surprised if Anet took action against something like this when there are large offenses that go unpunished and at the absolute worst I could maybe see them reverting them back but even that sounds highly unlikely so I wouldn't worry friend.

    > @"Ashantara.8731" said:

    > Is there no other way to achieve this? It's a joke that you have to invest in two Total Makeover Kits to make it happen...

It would seem that way at the moment however given time its likely that they will eventually be added to the game as either part of the base package or as a premium feature which you could just use 1 kit for so if it isn't super important to you I would wait and see what ANET ends up doing.

They're indeed awful. Was defending bay in our BL I think 2 resets ago and the enemy had catas up. I stealthed and dropped a disable on my mesmer and as I was walking back across the wall to grab supply, careful to skirt these red circles of death, an enemy mesmer used focus 4 to pull me right into the sand shades where I died before I could even pop invuln. Annoying to say the least lol.
