When they say map awareness I believe they were generally referring to the problem of being run over by 15+ man groups while taking a camp, to which map awareness can indeed be a helpful thing. Keeping watch on any scouting reports on your teams map chat, looking to see where sentries report enemy groups are, checking the RI time on objectives to see how recently a group was in the area, seeing swords on objectives nearby, noticing if a yak that was walking has suddenly disappeared off the map. It sounds a little complicated but the longer you play the mode the better you get at being more aware of your surroundings. As for your problem with gankers that is essentially what those players design their builds around, and that can be a difficult thing to prevent. One thing that I personally think could help people is for one not to go afk or stop paying attention. I've seen it numerous times where people run to a monument or sentry and just sit there waiting for it to cap/respawn and they aren't even paying attention and die without moving or casting a single skill. Aside from that if your worried about that happening to you design a build around negating it. Play something with good stun breaks or damage negation like warrior so you can just eat their burst, play a mes/thief yourself so you can just stealth and run away if you have to escape, play a bunker firebrand or druid that makes it hard for them to kill you (i've done this a few times with my heal ele and had people finally just give up and leave when they realize I wont die). If you just bring a character with no real build set up though yah you might be able to kill the npc's and whatnot but you'll have trouble vs other players, and they are the ones you should be concerned about.

I have yet to run into a perma stealth mesmer though. Perhaps they are less common than stealthy thieves?

I wouldn't say so much that theres an abundance of perma stealth mesmers, more that they like to stealth, blink over to you, and then do their little burst combo and then many of them tend to blink around and spam clones until your dead or use up their burst and run off until its back because thats all they have in their arsenal. Thats what I tend to encounter at least.

Ah the one that requires 10 of each of the materials. I thought this would be rather difficult as well at first, but thankfully it turned out to be perhaps the easiest to accomplish. Each of the 5 materials has a dedicated node to it located somewhere on the map, all I had to do was park a character at each one and I could have them all in 10 days, though seeing as I have a lot of characters I just parked 2 at each and got it out of the way fairly quickly. I'll post links below to the locations of each of the 5 nodes to save you the trouble of searching through the wiki for them. I would highly recommend using the dedicated nodes instead of trying to get them by chance as its considerably easier, quicker, and can be done while your working on the other collection parts.

  3. I personally am not a huge PvE player, and really only venture into it for the living world/expacs, to grab a skin I want, or the occasional jumping puzzle. That aside from my understanding almost any build can be used for exploration, however fractals require something a little more specialized. My first bit of advice would be to join a guild and I know you said you don't have time to dedicate to one, but there are many guilds out there that really require nothing of you and still have experienced members who frequently do the things you want to do and are willing to help/run with you so you'll know the ropes. Something else that might help you is:

    https://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki

This is a website for builds and has a section specifically for fractals. I'm not going to say this website always has the best most top tier builds but it's a good starting point.

    https://qtfy.eu

Quantify I linked above is probably the best website I've seen for efficient and optimal PvE builds and also has a section just for fractals. They go in depth with their builds and how to use them and generally try to offer a variety of different kinds so you can find one that fits your playstyle and does well, even if it isn't the best build out there.

One thing that could actually be helpful for this is gw2efficiency.com as it has a search function for your entire account and allows you to cycle through individual characters and their inventories as well. It's the best GW2 resource I've seen and keeps up with everything, even having a function that tells you when your next character will be getting a birthday gift, so it may be worth checking out. ^^

  5. I have 42 characters currently, mainly due to fashion wars. The main change that I'm still hoping for is to be able to preview auras like the poly luminescent refractor or snow diamond infusion in both the wardrobe tab so that you can see how it looks with your design and in the makeover kit panel if your character is wearing said aura/infusion.

Always a fan of more qol changes though.

    >

    > If its so easy to acquire it, that's even more reason to have more ways to get it.

Honestly I wish they'd make it harder to get, give all the people who come to this thread a real reason to complain and help them realize how good they have it right now. Know it won't happen, just like the topic of this thread won't happen thankfully, but man I wish it would. At least then I might have a reason to sympathize with some of the complainers because they'd actually have to put in some effort to get it, as opposed to how easy it is now.

  7. Ah I see, thats good to hear then lol I'd hate for you to have to wait years just to get gifts you should've acquired already from your characters time here. That point aside I think you picked a lovely profession to start anew with. Mesmer is a very fun class with an interesting design and has many fun qualities, its portal capabilities being one of my personal favorites that led me to pick it up myself years ago in WvW.

  8. My friend I fear I have bad news for you. The book you acquired does indeed unlock collections, but not in the form of the armor sets, but in actual collections. Each of the six pieces of funerary armor and the weapon set that goes with them are locked behind a collection based achievement, with there being a total of 7. They are;

Walk the Land - For boots

Glorify the Golden Heart - For chestpiece

Exaltation of the Guardians - For gloves

Washing of the Brow - For Helm

The Collection of Tribute - For leggings

Recitation of the Litany of Deeds - For shoulders

Triumph of Conquest - For weapons

Each achievement has a pof related collection, such as Walk the Land requiring pof map comp. I completed all of them shortly after pof bc fashion wars and it wasn't to bad, but it does seem like a lot lol.

    > Crafted many legendary items so far and the two things that require the most buckling up on my part are always the Gift of Battle(as I don't WvW that much) and the Gift of Exploration(as mapcomp became boring for me after the 5th char). But, going from what my signature says, If I want the shiny and I have to get the gifts for the shiny, I have to want or at least accept the gifts as well.

    >

    > Legendary Weapons and the way you aquire them are ok. You think getting your GoB as a PvE'er is bad, think about all the PvE stuff a WvW'er needs to do if he/she wants a legy. Dungeons, HoT-Metas, Farctals, Mapcomp, Events, Champs all that non WvW-content. If you don't want to WvW. If you can't get yourself to farm EotM, which is more like a PvE champtrain than actual WvW, for approx 10Hrs, less if you max out on reward-track bonuses, you should not get a legendary weapon.

    > I would like to have more PvE-Only legendaries, I think we already have Aurora, but that's tied to ls3, which isn't available for everyone. But, and this is a big one, should there ever be another PvE-only legendary, they need to make it hard to get to give it value. But, and that's the even bigger one, if they make it hard, ppl will cry that it's too had or that it requires a portion of PvE they personnally don't play. Not everyone enjoys the same things in PvE, shocking right. I liked Fractals and loved Dungeons, I hate JPs and waiting for timed events to start. I'm sure out there there's a player that hates all the instanced stuff in the game but jumps all the puzzles everyay if he/she's not waiting for the next world boss to spawn. All the "I want my legendary to be PvE-only" ppl should really think about if they would actually want this. It would have to be grindy, it would have to be hard, it would have to be costly and it would still not be for everyone. Would you still want the GoB replaced by a PvE version if it required you to kill 500 open world bosses? Would you still want to ditch WvW if the PvE-GoB required you to gather 500 tokens of each Dungeon? Or dare I say...if the PvE-GoB was tied to Raids, i.e. endgame PvE content? New PvE-GoB requires 500 acc.bound tokens only available once per day per account form world bosses in lvl80 zones, how about that, still want to keep things PvE-only? GoB can be replaced with the Gift of Fractals, sold for 10k relics, or would this be more like it?

    >

    > If you want the easy legendary...work some extra shifts in RL and buy one from the TP for cash. If you want to work for your legendary, accept that WvW is a SMALL portion of the process and get over it.

May Dwayna bless you. Gosh an actual sensible and well thought out post that isn't full of selfish desires or cynicism on one of these, I can't believe it. Thank you kind soul for imparting some of your light into this abysmal topic.

  10. I know you said you mostly play alone, but if your looking for more guidance and support and think you've only scratched the surface maybe consider joining a good guild. Assuming you get a good one you gain a valuable and free resource in other helpful players who can assist you in learning new content, setting goals, showing you strategies and builds, and joining you when you need a hand. It's certainly possible to play with more of a solo approach but I think you'll get a lot more out of the game with a good group.

    > yet anet was telling ppl to not buy raid b/c most of them involve RMT. well look your own game u made it that way with crap RNG ppl are force to go outside the game to get the stuff they want.

Or people could just realize that not every person is going to get every item they want. Just because your in a fantasy game world, doesn't mean all of life's rules just go out the window lol. If the biggest problem you have is that you have to pay money to make your character look like a festival threw up on them I think you'll be fine. Not everything in this game needs to be easily acquired, there's nothing wrong with rare items.

I appreciate roamers a lot though I recognize it is harder to show thanks to them as their contributions aren't shown for the whole map to see. Doing things like scouting, flipping enemy camps, tapping objectives, and picking off stragglers or those trying to regroup with their zerg do add up over time though and can help the server in a lot of generally unnoticed ways.

    > I pretty much can't play male human mages in this game due to their horrid wardrobe choice. I just spent an hour yesterday looking at all possible sets, and I wasn't able to truly enjoy a single one. My friend who plays female sylvari ranger also hates the armor choices available to her, and resorts to outfits to look good.

When you say you looked at all possible sets, do you mean you only looked at armor sets as a whole all together? Like all of the flame legion set, all of the bladed set, all of the leyline set, etc? One of my favorite things about the sets in this game is that I don't have to use them together, and I generally try not to use a full set if I can help it as I prefer to mix and match using different pieces, weapons, and dye combos to create my own desired look. I play fashion wars a lot in this game, its the only reason I have 41 characters to be honest, and I often help out friends with finding desired looks for their characters either from scratch or based around a central theme/skin that they choose and while its true some looks are harder to build around than others there are tons of great combinations out there. I never understood peoples inability to find looks they enjoy in this game, or the obsession people have with using full sets or outfits instead. I hate outfits with a passion honestly. Most every outfit that comes out has pieces I like, and pieces I don't, and I would absolutely love to be able to take some of them. The shoulders from the ice encasement outfit, the helm from the lich and forged outfits, the chestpiece from the lunatic guard and grenths regalia ones, ah so many pieces I would kill to get my hands on and add to my designs but that are tragically unavailable.

    > Main thing I'll miss is my server and the community within it. I transferred to Fort Aspenwood from IOJ back in Jan of 2013 and stayed here ever since. Best furry server in Tyria thanks to my heavy recruiting and my slogan "You can't spell Fur Affinity without FA!" lol Hopefully the change in WvW will be positive for all.

Agree with the community sentiment. I've been a player on Northern Shiverpeaks since launch and have never had a reason to consider leaving my server as i've met a lot of great people and had many fun times here with them. The server linking's that brought us together with other servers also brought some less than hospitable allies at time so while I'm interested in the proposed changes, I don't like the idea of losing this friendly community I've been with for years now. Not to mention I'm not fond of the idea of encountering some of the trolls and tryhards that have thus far been contained on other servers, but I suppose we'll see who falls where and at least with alliances we can attempt to stick together.

  15. Unfortunately unless you already have friends who are willing to join your guild and be active it will likely be very difficult in starting up a new guild this far in. There are a great number of guilds in this game for every game mode that already have a max level guild hall, full benefits, run events, and have players who are experts in whatever they're doing and some have been running events and trains since year 1, they have everything a player could want in a guild. To get a player to pick your guild thats just beginning over the many guilds that fit this description would most likely mean that they're either new and just looking for somewhere to belong or that something about your guild, more than likely the people in it, caught their eye and convinced them to give you a shot. As for your experiences with other guilds I am sorry to hear that. GW2 has a lot of guilds which means sadly that there are also a number of bad ones out there. In my personal experience as a higher up officer in my guild and someone who looks out for potential new recruits just joining the guild does not a good member make. I look out for those people who are active in chat, attending events, and try to join in and do stuff with us whether it be using our guild forums, chatting in TS with us, or just trying to get involved. These people are the ones who catch my eye, and if I think they'll stay that way I generally try to get involved with them and prop them up by making sure they know of all of our events and I try to get them on the fast track for promotions because we want them to feel valued and if they performed they may be a great asset for our guild in the future. I'm not saying you aren't any of these things, as I don't know what exactly caused the sour relationship with your past guilds, but just letting you know the stuff I look for as a recruiting officer whenever I deal with new members.

I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors, whether you do try to stick it out and make your own guild or decide to give some other guilds a try, and hope everything works out for you. Have a great evening~ ^^

    > @"Moonlit.6421" I'll definitely post my final concept idea when i settled for a race. I have a few ideas based on what will win in the end, but my wardrobe is limited as is my gold. So i will first test some things out. Might i add that your necros look really cool? Cause they really do!^^

    >

Looking forward to it! And yah I understand, funds can be a very limiting factor. I've spent more than I care to know on this game lol and I'm still working on it.

    Also daw thanks! >w<

Both of those guys were pretty much built around their helms. Snixx my little asura is wearing the demonic mask starter skin which has a cool effect, particularly on asura, depending on their eye color which is why his eyes are a bright green and look like snake eyes. Dagdar is a sylvari, not that you can tell lol, who was based around the reapers hood and using the white to contrast with the dark inside of the hood and the typically darkness necromancers seem to put out. (Sorry I'm rambling ;w;)

  17. >

    > @"Moonlit.6421" That is somewhat of a problem for me actually. I often jump between themes for my characters. Take my thief for example: started out as a Caithe-themed character with D/D, then came HoT and i enjoyed Daredevil so much that she went to be a staff-wielding edgelord in bladed armor (shame i didn't find a fitting staff in my price range). Then she went to being a bloodstone-crazed beast herself on the start of LWS3 until, ome weeks ago i finally bought the Reaper of Grenth outfit i wanted for a long time and now she is a black/green reaper-like appearence wielding Last Resort. You might ask why i don't just buy more character slots and make every version of this char a standalone version, but truth be told i am too lazy to lvl and properly gear them.

    > As for the scourge: i have a few vague ideas for themes, but i like the style of my characters evolve over time (as with my Daredevil) and this development has so far served me very well, so i will wait and see what fits this future character the best.^^

    > Thank you for your offer btw, i might hit you up on your offer when i find the time!

Ah I see, thats certainly a fair point since I was looking at it from my personal side instead of how others might do it. I typically am that person who makes a new character for every new look lol, though I do a lot of WvW so I use tomes/bday scrolls to level up my characters because I'm also way to lazy for that lol. I see what you mean though, and even a few of my characters have evolved over time or been altered to better fit their backstory/idea. I wish you the best of luck with your design and hope it turns out great and you are more than welcome to hit me up any time. If you pick a design soon you should post it on here so all the voters can see who you went with. ^^

Here's two of my necros, just for the heck of it.

(Links bc I still can't figure out images on this forum -w-")

  18. My personal advice is to know what you want before you create the character and go through the effort of leveling it up. I currently have 41 characters, 5 of which are necromancers. Each time I make a character though, or on the very rare occasions I redesign one, I know exactly what armor, dyes, hair, race, etc I want before they're ever even made. You say your looking at creating a scourge in particular, pick a theme first and foremost or a center for your look. Do you want it to have more of a sand/desert theme? Maybe theres a particular armor or weapon skin you like and really want to use with it? For example the new Arcane Rifle that just came out is part of the inspiration behind my newest character, a Holomancer. Choose the idea you want to center on then build around it. Try the look on different characters using the wardrobe before you actually commit to anything, see how it looks on the different races, use your empty character slot to just make new characters and run them through the starter zone then take em to pvp for the wardrobe if you need to. This way your sure of what you want and know that when you finally complete it you'll be satisfied with your look.

If you decide on a theme or a center for your look feel free to hit me up by the way. I absolutely adore fashion in this game so I like chatting about it with other people. ^^

  19. Just to clarify it may be easier to use the wardrobe to preview items, rather than the trading post or wiki codes, as the wardrobe tab has pretty much every weapon/armor skin in the game including gem store ones and is a lot easier to navigate. If your unsure of where to find one they're in every major city, including Lions Arch, or can also be found in the pvp lobby or WvW spawns. They appear as an NPC with a bag icon over their head and are the same ones who hold your bank. Once you click on them you'll see your bank, material storage, and wardrobe on the left. Select wardrobe then browse through and easily preview any skin in the game, then just preview dyes with them off the trading post at your leisure.

  20. Figure I'll put my 2 cents into the soda machine here. Been on NSP since launch and never had a reason to leave, has a great community and wonderful people keep me tied to this game and allowed me to make my home here. We also do some random dumb stuff every now again that sometimes goes absolutely fantastic and is so fun (first video) and sometimes fails so spectacularly that you just can't help but laugh (2nd video ;w;). I'll just leave these here as my contribution to the thread, look forward to playing with you guys~
