Staff is still also a possible choice. Shortbow, too.

I would personally prefer a staff. Just meshes better with my idea of how a commanding support warrior should look like.

Yeah, some of the specs didn't really jive with the expacs anyway.

I still hate falling back on this statement, yet it still stands.

What does spear/staff bring that the warrior doesnt already do?

As a side note, elite specs for this expansion could be themed around the Tyrian races prepairing to go south, learning new ways to get ready.

Well spear could be a support/offensive weapon if the devs did the kit right. It could include one ranged skill ie spear toss. Warrior has lb and rifle for ranged, those worked out so good for warrior lol. Its anets style to make med- long range weapon skills suck except for ranger. Look at revs few med range hammer skills lol nerfed repeatedly.

It's not that I dont like the pistol idea so much as I can almost guarantee they'll be lackluster and if remotely viable nerfed to the ground on a class like war.

Now now, just because they over nerfed rifle does not mean that P/P can't bring several fields and blast finishers to the mix to support the front line from the midline.

Drop Smoke field->blast for stealth.

Drop Light field -> blast for condi cleanse.

Drop Water field -> blast for healing.

I threw something together a few months ago to show what Pistol/Pistol could be like as mid range dps+support.

it brings a 1 handed weapon that could be used as a support mid range spec.

Currently the warrior does not have access to a 1h range weapon, bar Rev, warrior is the only core class without a 1h range weapon

Another thing worth note. a 1h pistol will mean countless weapon combos!

This will allow the player to have defence or offence on their mainhand/offhand with combo of the pistol in the main hand or offhand.

I also dont want to be wrong since i made H.O.P.E for this :V

We don't need that, there already is too much stealth into the game.

How'd warrior blast these though?

Will it use bombs as utilities?

If so, it sounds pretty much like something that'd be thematically better on Engineer.

This all can also apply to a Javelin, a one-handed thrown spear.

And since Warriors are still lacking a support elite, introducing Paragons properly to the game as an elite specialisation for warrior (rather than the few snippets put into Guardian) would be a nice touch.

Just put it on your Engineer.

1h spear would need to be created as a brand new weapon as i belive trying to make a 2h weapon a 1h weapon would break too much of the games code. The issue with that is that it would become a mainhand weapon only, limiting the play styles. Warrior is listed as a weapon master, meaning that all mainhand weapons can be used in the offhand as the class has 'mastered' the use of them.

The easiest fix to this is for Pistol to become the elite specs weapon. A weapon with a huge amount of skins already in the game, which a new weapon would not have. (also lets look at the staff.. how many of the legendary versions of the staff really look like they are for melee or thrown combat? seriously, most of them look like sticks or ornaments for casting.

Only a few stood out as melee looking staffs:

Stormcaller

Legion staff

Bloodstone

Darkspear

Lightward's battlestaff

Sunspear

Wargods staff

However none of the legendary staff's look suited to be used in melee or thrown. Which is why im strongly opposed to getting staff. (also I am really not a fan of staff combat on any of the classes).

Personally.. I'd like to see new things in the game rather than rose tinted history desires of stuff from guild wars 1. Guild Wars 2 is meant to be set in the future, we should have advanced from then. What would fit with the warrior is providing it with something like Gadgets or Summons. This would allow the warrior to keep its 'little to no magic' design while also doing magic things, as an example, create a mist gate with a gadget allowing players to travel a short distance instantly. or summon a physical wall, blocking projectiles, knocking back foes that walk into it and lowering damage by 50% for 4s after being summoned. Stuff like this I'd love to see along with adrenalin being used to fuel support skills.

I posted this in one of my posts earlier this year:

F2 - Use 10 adrenaline and provide an AOE buff for 10s reducing incoming physical and condition damage by 10%

F3 - Use 10 adrenaline and provide an AOE buff for 4s providing superspeed for 4s

F4 - Use 20 adrenaline and provide an AOE buff for 10s giving an additional 15% attack speed and 7% damage

F5 - Use 30 adrenaline and throw down a protective shield device pulsing barrier till destroyed, or runs out of time for 15s, Barrier per pulse 400 base every 1.5s Device will have 10,000 health.

This would give the warrior class the complexity it needs to feel enjoyable and rewarding, making you choose, do you want to do damage with a burst or use the adrenalin to support your team.

Yes I know we are taking an engineer twist with the warrior in some ways.. but that is just to keep the warriors theme true.

Not a fan of the engineer at all due to its serious lack of weapons/weapon combos, the class does not speak to me at all as a result. I've used the pistol on Thief for a bit just to enjoy the sound and projectile from HOPE, which has been my favorite weapon in the game from HoT but never had a reason to make it... till now :V.

See the sample espec I posted there are several blast finishers built in. LB 3, Hammer F1, and warhorn all provide blast finishers now. I believe Stomp does as well. As do banners.

Support.

Warrior doesn't have a real dedicated support weapon yet, except warhorn and that is offhand only.

Warrior needs the ability to fill the support playstyle, giving them a weapon that allows them to do that makes sense. You can achieve this with alot of weapons thematically, but my personal favourite is a warrior that uses a staff while commanding their allies on the frontline.
