I'm not watching a movie and dreaming I'm Gandalf the White. I'm playing a Role Playing Game, and I'm supposed to be the main character in it (or whatever other role can be). That guy isn't _my_ character. How am I supposed to feel like things are made for me as a player (who said "customer" ?) ? Then again, how am I supposed to feel involved ?

What will be next ? Devs playing the whole new chapter on youtube while I'm watching ? A movie release ? Guild Wars 2 living story on Netflix ?

We've had random PC placeholders in the trailers for a long time, whether for story or showing off things like Legendaries. At least since LS3, possibly a lot earlier too. I'd have to check the LS1/LS2 ones.

He's a place holder for our character. They need a main character there for the cutscene and you can't expect Anet to make a million different trailers and using every hero created to cater to each specific person. They have been doing this for a good while with the PoF trailer being the second most recent use of a place holder.

I've seen people reach for something to complain about but this just takes the cake.

Wow, you're so good at overreaching that you should write for Salon.

How much would you care if it were a Krytan or Ascalonian PC, just wondering? I'm JUST WONDERING

ANYWAY.

I'm so excited! It's coming out next week. I'm excited to see Aurene and hope uh, I am not paying for that boat as I am her Guardian. I wonder if over the course of the story we'll be dealing with Joko. I wonder if the Awakened are just doing what they think they should do or trying to take power for themselves?

Someone mentioned this bringing "life" back into the PoF maps and man, if you're done with every everything already, I envy the time you have to spend on games. I'm still doing stuff!

And then murdered Trahearne just so people won't be upset over him hogging the "leader of the Pact" spot, replacing him with Logan and changing the position into desk job one.

It hurts to read it so plainly but this is exactly what they did.

If they wanted to let everyone know this random guy represents commanders everywhere, then they could've stuck a commander tag above his head in the trailer, but, that would probably look silly and generate even more discussion about a non issue.

Moving on, why the 28th? Why not this week since alot of people are on vacation? Not that the wait is too difficult, just seems like it would've been better if released this week.

A lot of people including ANet. That is a very bad time to do a release.

On the other hand, some of us can't get enough Dragon Goodness . ;)

Once you're actually playing the story, you'll see yourself in it. You'll even hear your voice actor do your lines. If you insist on the main character being -your- character and accept the script as -your- story, anyway. As far as I'm concerned, none of my many RP alts are the Commander or even terribly well connected at the high political level of any of the cultures. (Well, ok, I do have a Minister -- but he's a shill npc villain for a guildie's plot, not someone I designed). Their lives are affected, sometimes massively, by the LS events, and there's tons of spin-off story to be had, no need for them to be at the core for me to feel deeply involved in the evolving world.

So the LS is the story of the game, and we get some agency in that we get to do the fights, but we're not really involved in what happens in the story any more than we are in watching a movie. I just saw the newest Thor, and I felt plenty involved even though not one character looked, acted, or talked remotely like me.

Eating Balthazar probably gave Kralkatorrik a horrible heartburn.
