Why will the next wintersday last less than others ?

Recommended Posts

I'm disappointed by this too.

I always thought they made it last longer, and especially run into January, because so many people are busy or away in December so they wanted to increase the probability of everyone having time to play it.

I'm one of those people, and as a result this year I have just 8 days to play Winterday. 6 of them are work days for me and I can't guarantee I'll have time to log in on all of them so it looks like it's going to be a matter of picking the things I want to do most and focusing on them whilst skipping the stuff I won't have time for, which is a shame because there's likely to be a lot I want to do. I'm actually hoping there's no new content and few/no new items this year, which really shouldn't be something players hope for.

This is how it was originally, with Wintersday ending the first patch day of January. The past few years have extended it by a week. They probably have something else planned, or are simply planning on extending it by a week when people ask for it at the end. Episode 2 should be around January 30, though last year they took extra time due to the holidays, but this time it's likely already finished.

I'm guessing the reason it's shorter this year is they are planning on a substantive release between Wintersday and Lunar New Year, which begins 16 Feb 2018. But who knows? Maybe they just decided that three weeks was plenty of time for a festival.

Firstly it is shorter, it's finishing on the 2nd January.

But also what's the benefit in making it shorter, even if you don't like the content? It's not like the rest of the game is locked while Wintersday is running, if you don't like it you can simply ignore it.

As Cirrion mentioned, it was just a thread she made 5 days ago in the General GW2 Discussion sub-forum - there wasn't a 'News/Announcement' post made in a sub-forum dedicated for such news/announcements, or even an email sent out.

Here's the direct source.

I need to gather by December 13th, so consider creating even now and sharing it on our pages!

Regarding the GW2 newsletter on happenings in the game, here are some of my thoughts - ignore if you want:

>! When I do get the emails from ArenaNet about new stuff happening, as I am signed up for such newsletters, it's always at least 4-5 days _after_ it has happened/started. I expect my newsletter informing me of Wintersday even later this year and do not expect it to be received until December 22-26 - at least 10 days after it already started.

>!

>! I honestly don't know why they even bother sending them or why they have a newsletter at all. I am active in the game and browse the forums and saw her random forum post, so I know of the event happening and when it starts and ends. However, were I an inactive player signed up to be notified of things happening in the game and I received this newsletter then I would surely be irked to realize that it was already half over by the time they told me about it. I doubt anyone thinks sending the notification out a week or more _after_ the start of the event instead of a week or more _before_ makes any kind of sense.

EDIT: Got the newsletter email earlier than I expected this year - only 7 full days after Wintersday started (received Tuesday December 19th). :\

Strange, I almost always receive the Newsletter the next day. I agree the Newsletter should come the day _before_, instead of the day after, but it's not too bad only a day later. Maybe those in charge feel the Newsletter should not go out until the Release has actually been released to avoid the "You promised...and didn't deliver"...I don't know.

The Newsletters are probably more for those that don't keep up with the game, than those so active they also hang out in the forums. /shrug
