Problem with Outfit Tonic conversion to full Outfit

Recommended Posts

Hey, so, if you didn't know, if you happen to have any of the outfit tonics from when they got rid of town clothes, there's a merchant in the Black Lion Seashell in Lion's Arch that allows you to trade them for dyeable outfits instead.

Problem is--the dye jobs for a lot of the outfits are horrible. Several have one slot dedicated to the color of BOTH the top and bottoms of the outfit, and ultimately makes many of them just look bad. Is there any chance of this improving?

I don't know if anyone else posted on this yet, I just don't really have the ambition to search right now since I'm actually procrastinating on finals work, but still, these need changes.

What if you deleted those tonics because they took up a bank space and were effectively not useful?

When they took away the clothing, they gave us all tonics. Why not just, I don't know, give 'everyone' the outfit(s) unlocked?

Edit: Also, I don't see any locked 'Town Clothes' in my outfits tab?

You need to trade them with the vendor to see them in the outfits tab. And you trade the tonic for it, so beyond that, I don't know. You can contact Anet, but as far as I can see, you need to have the tonic.

Honestly, while I do kick myself for not jumping on this last week, it is nice that they are finally IN the game.

I feel they should all be acquirable in-game through the personal story. Makes it so A) you unlock an outfit outside of the gem store, B) introduces new players to the outfit system without hurting their wallet or breaking the value of the super-cool gemstore ones, and C) gives you something to cover up the mismatched armour most of us have while we level to 80.

Kind of shows us as adventurers fresh out of the city, working our way up, and at 80 then we shed the simple clothes for our epic armour sets that we'll keep (ish) for the rest of our characters life. *shrug*

Barring that, bringing them back at 200-400 Gems would be nice. They are nowhere near as detailed as the new outfits, an old asset, and it makes them affordable comparatively.

They were introduced last week? I had no idea. Not much fan fare? Was it a patch note?

I got the old town clothes (which I agree with the OP, the channels have some 'interesting' choices, not to mention the 4th one, in the bottom right, doesn't seem to do anything), and I got the old Khaki one back, which cost me like 190g, which won't take more than a few weeks to get back, and I don't really spend my gold on anything, other than the occasional surprise hidden mount or non-raid/pvp centric accessory collection, like Aurora. The Khaki suffers from some interesting pairings of color channels with the shoes as well.

They really need to come up with far more channels to dye. The top of an outfit should have 2 channels, the bottom two channels. The shoes 2 channels. The head (if applicable) 2 channels and then a channel (or 2) for some common adornment across the entire outfit. Like fittings or feathers or that sort of thing. So what, that's like 10? We have 4. Sometimes 3.

I hope this is a sign that they might be willing to piece together some old things that didn't make it to a tonic. I'd really like the sleeveless, non-fancy hoodie I used to have with the khaki shorts and some boots that are 'smaller' than the town clothing boots, like the old witch outfit boots.

Wow, I had no idea this was in the game and I've been wanting it for ages, since outfits were introduced.

The dye slots do sound odd (I can't get in game to check now), I agree it would be better to split the top and bottom as I imagine a lot of people will want them different colours.

Unfortunately I've never heard of an outfits dye channels being changed after release, so it seems unlikely.

Here's some examples of what I mean. The dark red is just one out of 3 or 4 dye slots, depending on the outfit.

Oddly enough, when you remove the dye from that slot, it returns the top and bottom to their respective colors that they were with the tonic.

I'm shamelessly re-posting a QoL request from the old forum that covers the opener's topic in #2:

Outfit overhaul:

* Dyes & options saved per outfit & character for easy swapping

* **Separate dye channels for each outfit part**

* Separate (from armor) show/hide checkboxes for head, shoulder, hands, feet (, mud-flap)

* "Aura" shoulder pieces shine through (Nightfury etc.)

* A hotkey for the outfit sub-window maybe?

Different point, /cheer to AN for granting the wish finally and convert town clothing tonics.

I like all of this.

I hope this happens. Especially the dye options per outfit, and the separate channels for each outfit part. Shoulder check boxes would be nice too. There's too many obnoxious details on some outfits that just sort of detract from an otherwise decent design.
