Why do we have to be traitred into a line to use certain weapons?

Balancing Elite Specialisation weapons to only be useable with the elite specialisation means they don't have to balance it with other elite specialisations. Makes balance easier/faster and also means weapons can be specialised to fit a large change in the proffesion mechanic without worrying how it would fit normally.

Yes, it would be op. Considering most elite specialization weapons are top performers for their class in what ever field the elite specialization focuses, having access to multiple would be overpowered.

Balancing would be even more impossible than it is now with more and more weapons coming to elite specializations.

The concept of the game is that each profession, in its basic form, defines a certain choice of weapons. Not all professions can use all weapons. That's the base. At the top of that, we can go to elite levels. There are two by professions and they give access to more weapons. The concept has been designed by Anet and is given.

Maybe over time more elites will be added, each of them adding one more weapon to each profession, up to a point where all professions can use all weapons. But that's not where we are now. :)

I'd love if you could select what weapons you wanted to use outside of the elite and freaking hate the fact that they are tied to a certain trait line because there are some weapons I love using but absolutely hate the elite. I wish they could just not tie in the trait line. Say for instance, Holosmith. You get the sword. If you master the whole spec, you can equip the sword anytime you want, however you only get the Holosmith abilities if you trait into Holosmith. If not, you get some base abilities similar to a Ranger's sword ability or whatnot. Same goes for the other weapons locked behind elite specs. Mastering the spec gives you access to equip the weapon outside of it, however you don't get the fancy abilities attached to it unless you are traited into that elite. Given that freedom, I could definitely see some interesting builds come around. My guardian and my engineer would certainly love the freedom of choice instead of the illusion of it.

Getting the weapon counts as one of the "fancy" abilities of the elite spec.

I'm sorry, but I don't really see a problem in the way it is designed. Infact it comes with an interesting possibility... getting the same weapon in another elite spec that plays it completely differently. Unlikely? Maybe, but the idea is interesting anyway.

Either way... it might not be that simple to change the mechanic as it is.

Balance. Otherwise we would have to deal with Monsters in PvP/wvw like Mirage with shield. Hammer holo, sword tempest etc.

So instead of making 5 skills you want them to make 10, so only dubble the balance work for each extra elite spec going forward.

Yea thats wont give them more work at all.
