Because everything about GW2 right now promotes solo play and and destroys the community.

Right now? Its been that way since the beginning. Only needed players for the final instance of the PS at launch, dungeons, and open world bosses.

Replace dungeons with fractals, add in raids, some of the PS story missions cant be beaten by some players(Not going into the reason why). HoTs metas are still going strong and those require a decent sized map population. The most recent LW maps are well populated still. So id say nothing has changed.

Well, it is called gamers choice, and there is a large community of gamers who vehemently dislike Guild Wars 2. I say this based on the general comments of dissent when ever Gw2 is brought up in any of the chats of variety streamers who focus on rpgs, including mmo's.

(excluding those why primarily stream Gw2, as most of their fan base is comprised of Gw2 fans)

If they used a community like Twitch, or similar communities to make their choices, that may be a reason why it's not on there.

As you can see, almost every big MMO was nominated, except for Guild Wars 2. Anyone want to take a guess at why that might be? It's easily my favorite of the list.

There's already a thread about this:

GW2 has no progression beyond cosmetics and since 9/10 cosmetics nowadays come through a UI popup after you've bought it with real cash or converted gems, the overall reward and progression system of GW2 lacks terribly for most ppl. No lore with new items, no little quest or whatever. Getting a green armor chest piece from some random Orc in a WoW dungeon feels more epic than getting the most shiny and badass looking weapon skin in GW2. Living story takes ages and delivers content for under a week for many ppl that play like 1hr a day.

GW2 endgame for most ppl revolves around farming endless amounts of lackluster and worthless loot, to sell it then without any player interaction at the AH, to get negligible sums of gold they can one day convert into another currency, just in case something will ever come to the AH that they want, since for some reason all the cosmetics have to rotate randomly over the year and are not at all available if you want to specifically get one until it pops up again. So ppl farm gold, so that they can insta buy what they wanted when the time comes, just to realize after another hour ingame with their shiny new skin that now there really is nothing more in the game and then log of bored.

In other words, most ppl play the game these days without even having a specific goal in mind. And yes, the graphics and animations still look solid, world looks great, lore is okay for an MMO, combat is solid, classes feel different, mounts are awesome. But wherever you look there's too much wasted potential. Also, ArenaNet is focussing too much on little junks of content that take ages to create but have no reaplyability at all.

How about creating a Hardmode for dungeons or open world? Doesn't take long, just crank the numbers up, increase the rewards and drop chances, put some shiny extra skins in there and voila, you've just got many ppl to group up to replay the entire game world.

How about creating different difficulties for raids and splitting them into pieces with far less rewards then normal mode? Again doesn't take ages, and voila, the majority of ppl that didn't like raids has a massive chunk of content to experience.

They really need to start thinking how they can get the most out of the dev time used. Even major studios like Blizzard have been proven to being unable to pump out enough one time content to satisfy even casual players.

If you're now playing GW2, simply because you overall enjoy grinding some mobs, then you can just play for example BDO instead. World looks better, animations, classes and combat are better, far deeper side activites, truly open and gigantic world, economy is better, mounts are 2nd place behind GW2, you still get the same worthless loot through grinding endless mobs and god knows you may end up getting character progression every once and a while.

Only downside is that well, it's an Asian MMO with all it's problems from the perspective of western players.

And if you're into more PvP with unique classes, then play some MOBA game instead, like HoTS or DOTA2, if you're into story heavy lore, play some singleplayer or coop RPG, if it's raids and dungeons you want with extra character progression, play WoW instead, if you want more content, true open world and miss quests, then play ESO. You have many better options these days.

GW2 as the main title for many MMO players in 2018/19 is not delivering enough meaningful and replayable content that also offers some form of character progression.

Gamers choice awards is a known meme with nominations made made strictly on lobbying. That is why you see fallout 76, Battlefield V and BfA as "fan favorite". Next step would be having Diablo Immortal in the "most anticipated release" category. These specific awards really do not matter.

These are not even "journalist choice". VGAs are more accurately journalists choices than this ceremony than is just marketing choices.

Thank you. Forget those games. GW2 is home. None of them have beetle racing. They're terrible games.

The whole situation can be summarized as "Why 'Crash' Won Best Picture". Theres been a bunch analysis write ups about that situation, and the ones you want to read/watch are the ones not talking the merits of the film itself, but the ones about "The Academy" and how these awards are actually picked. The "joke" is that the bias is understandable, and makes perfect sense...... but its the industry's use of the Awards to fuel marketing, and how its manipulated, is becoming as obvious as EA's handling of Starwars. Its just the public never noticed UNTIL Crash, because the movies that usually win awards are ones they've at least heard of, and more or less decent in the eyes of the public.

Knowing what we know about the game's industry, and its marketing machine, its not even being cynical when you say a game's award show has the creditably of TV Esports of the mid-2000s.

Because there is no engame content in GW2. WvW is a joke and dying out and PvP has no challenge. Nerfs fly everywhere and once in awhile we get a decent band-aid. We get story content (its awesome that its free!) once a year, being that its stretched out in episodes.

There's nothing that is outstanding about GW2 and many veteran and players who like challenge find something that fits their niche, bc it's no longer GW2.

Raids, Fractals, and Fashion Wars disagree.

Just because it's not the endgame content you want doesn't mean there's no endgame content.

Isn't that why raids were introduced/implemented?

Ah, ok.

However, should ANet increase the difficulties of these types of content, won't we just be back to the same discussion in a short amount of time when players exhaust themselves on it and then start demanding yet more difficult content? Won't the cycle continue?
