Commander Tag Extra Feature

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't it be nice that when a player hovers his/her cursor over the commander tag on the normal/mini map that they could read a custom written text explaining the goal of the player with the commander tag?

examples:

Purpose: Pug Commander

Purpose: In need of a few players to escort dolyaks

Purpose: Gathering Players to do ...

Purpose: Scouting

Commanders already can write a message to their squad, which everyone sees when they join and whenever it's updated. So they could put a summary of what they're doing or instructions in there.

If you want to know before joining the squad, and especially if there's a few different commanders and you want to know which is best for you to join, I think the best approach is simply to ask in map chat (or a voice channel if you're in WvW and using voice comms).

That's pretty inefficient. My suggestion also allows for players who just joined the map to know where to go without first asking whats going on and hoping somebody responds. Many things also go unnoticed in map chat.

At the moment I also avoid tagging up for small tasks because I'll end up being followed by zerglings who think im a proper commander who can lead them.

Even if there is some sort of consensus over color meanings (assuming all servers agree?), the amount of meanings are still verry limited. (The color rules aren't working in reality anyway , because most players dont know the meanings of the colors and many commander tag users just choose whatever color they like (color code not respected)) .

I've never seen a consensus for this last more than 5 minutes. (Even ignoring the fact that random people will tag up, for tactical or frivolous reasons.).

that's what only a handful of players know, the majority has no idea.

Maybe in WVW everyone hews to a standard but in PVE nobody does. If I tag up I will *try* to use a different colour than what I see around me .... but 5 minutes later someone else may tag up and not do the same. A colour coded system also does not work with players who are colour blind.

If I am after something specific I usually check LFG as there is a text and description with a commander's squad. If I see a tag on map I just either see it in map chat as they tend to shout what they doing, or pm said tag, or just go there and see if there is something to tag onto.
