Which weapon you want next?

It's worth noting that technically the Holosmith is based on human technology, it's just that the humans in question are the Zephyrites rather than Krytans.

I've advocated for mace, but I don't think it should be _next_. Engineers have had two melee elite specialisations thus far - going three for three would be overkill.

Staff or scepter for a 'technomage' style would probably work, or a bow with a 'trick arrow' theme.

Engineers have pretty much the opposite problem as Warriors. Where the latter is suffering from there being too few weapons in the game that they don't use (so the next weapon for them will probably _have_ to be staff, scepter or focus), Engineers almost have to get either a two-handed weapon, or a main hand weapon (or the same weapon used in main and off hand, as with the Spellbreaker dagger). Any off hand only weapon would be forced to pair with pistol main hand, and thereby be pigeonholed into a condi build (or utter uselessness).

I like the mace idea, but even core Engineer has no real long range options, unless you feel like auto attacking your target to death (and the auto attack in question isn't even that great). We can manage a world boss from a distance because they're typically stationary targets with multiple hit boxes, but apart from that we have pretty much nothing. My vote is still with scepter or staff.

A bow would be nice as well. Short or long. Doesn't really matter which. I think the more tricky arrows could be cool. Like thief only cranked up to 11. It's a shame that Anet doesn't want us to have more complex movement though. A hook shot type skill to get up on higher platforms would be super fun.

With the introduction of Dual Wield weapon Elite spec, I hope Engineer may also get a Dual Wield Weapon elite spec as well. It can fill in the need for adding in both a Main and off hand weapon such as dual Daggers or dual Scepter acting as a type of tesla coil theme weapon set with the skill 3 being based on what weapon combo you have for main and off hand. They can even twist things up a bit as well by adding in Dual Focus Elite Spec where the Focus use for Main hand has the Engineer shoot out electricity by having the focus act as a Core for the generation of Electricty base attacks and Off-hand Focus acts as a Support/Utility Weapon option to create Barriers. It would be a interesting Elite Spec if Engineer got a Dual Focus Elite Spec for its Utlity/support Elite Spec.

Due to the poor amount of class that can equip these weapons, I'm pretty sure they'll give a bow and maces to the new elite specs. I can't imagine any other class than the engineer getting access to a bow, and maces, beyond the fact they would perfectly fit the engineer's set, are too close from the sword we just got.

I wouldn't necessarily expect that ArenaNet will choose based on which weapons are least used. Sword was already close to the most used weapon pre-PoF (staff beat it, but only because it was given to two of the HoT elite specs) - now, the only profession that doesn't have a one-handed sword in its kit is necromancer.

I'll bet you 10 gold now Necromancer gets sword next expansion to make sword the first weapon in the game all classes can use. Save this post!

(Anet pls see this and make necro get sword)

I sure hope it wouldn't be offhand unless we got a dual wield spec. If we had only and offhand addition in the next elite spec that means every single build would be using pistol man, which isn't good to stand on its own.

> something like power off hand, like a mace, or something

It would be even worse if it was power because again pistol is the only mainhand weapon and its condi.

I like the idea of mace but it would either have to be mainhand or dual wield, and in this case I'd most definitely go for dual wield if its power, since currently Holosmith is falling on the same thing with sword, shield or pistol offhand are the only options which make mainhand sword worse because there's no good option for power offhand.

I suspect if they ever give us a new Elite Spec with a Off-hand it most likely may be a Dual weapon type Elite Spec that provide both Main and Off hand.

I still find it interesting if some how they provide a Dual Focus Elite Spec as Tech Core Elite spec that specialize in Projection Technology by using the Focus to create Projected Weapons for range attack or Dual Daggers that act as Tesla Coil theme Elite Spec with weapon skill 3 based on what Dual Weapon combo you have.

Could do with a long ranged weapon, shortbow, longbow or sceptre, possibly for a support/DPS hybrid spec. I could see the bow being used as a catapult to launch AoE effects and the sceptre as a 'control rod' for non AI based, micro golem swarms.

Unless Engi gets two weapons for the next spec (like warrior did with SB), I can't see off hand being an option with only pistol for the main hand.

When I think about it, if we're supposed to get a power offhand, we need to get main hand also with it. Just like Spellbreaker got dagger for both slots. Unfortunately the elite spec weapons can be only used with the elite spec trait equipped so we can't combine sword with new offhand and we'd be stuck with pistol in MH and that one's just not suited for power builds. We could get a new condi OH (i.e torch) but we already have a good condi OH (pistol). Besides IMO we'll get finally a support spec.

So I see three options for what can happen:

1) we get another two hand (GS, longbow or staff)

2) we get weapon for both MH and OH (mace or torch)

3) we get a MH weapon focused on support that could work with shield (scepter, mace) - just like with the sword I feel that in this case shield should be revisited and reworked/buffed to be less situational.

Yea! Bow or Shortbow would be great! But it would be even better if we could get Crossbow! Just imagine that! Crossbow made by Charr Engineer that can shot many arrows before reloading. It could be something like semi-automatic Crossbow (remember Van Helsing? ;))

They could make it into another kit in order to not add additional weapon to the game, since they mentioned it's really expensive or something.

(I know, another kit... but Crossbows are badass >D)
