I can defeat a mob but the game considers me to still be "in combat" so I can't mount, SB can't swap pets, other professions can't swap weapons, etc... Players end up having to travel a significant distance from the encounter before they are no longer locked in combat... but then are subjected to the vast aggro range of other mobs or if they remain in-place and wait for the "timer" to let them out of combat, the mob re-spawns. > If we understand how we interact with the game world, or how it interacts with us, then we can plan for those eventualities. If you are in combat, then there must be a reason. Is there an enemy attacking you? Is there a condi on you? Is there a ground aoe you are in or close? Did you just take fall damage? There are many more questions one can ask about the game state they are in, and exploring those questions will help with understanding the game and having confidence in entering any situation that may arise. Personally, I haven't had the same game experience that some have raised here. Occasionally I get stuck in a situation I can't just escape, but occasionally, not always. If the same sticky situation happens to me reliably, then I have learned to expect it, and adjust my gameplay when applicable.
  2. I tend to disagree with the idea that mobs need changes to suit the player needs/wants. I do agree that it can be annoying or frustrating to have mobs respawn quickly, or for long range agro to pull them, or to be stuck with condi's on you. However, if we, as the player, understand that 'if I go to this area, I will face X mob, which has this ability' then we can also preplan how we are going to approach this area. If we assume that the existing mobs in HoT and PoF will continue to remain relatively unchanged, then isn't this a signal to consider how we approach those parts of the game? We are given a large toolbox to work with these types of challenges, we should be using them. For example, if a player is telling you that they have problems with conditions at the end of combat, one would suggest they look at condi cleanse on demand to help with that situation. If the player decides they don't want the condi cleanse, which is fine, then they are also responsible to themselves for accepting that they have an alternative to being stuck in combat but decided that was a preferable to have another skill available. Open World has a statement you hear tossed around a lot: "It is Open World, it doesn't matter what build/skills you bring" which is really an unfair comment to the average player. It does matter what build you are running and what skills you use in Open World, you will need to cleanse conditions, self heal, CC for breakbar etc and on some professions and builds that won't always be the most appealing choice to make. As well, not all players are going to need to make the same choices. If we accept that different players have different skill levels, and different ability and engagement to play the game, then it stands to reason that cookie cutter builds won't work for everyone in every situation (nor will cookie cutter advice). And if the build and skills you choose are still not enough to overcome some situations, then it is time for tactical planning. Do I run up to the Rich Ori Node and pull the mobs with me, or do I clear the mobs as I move up to the node? In both cases the player is making the choice on how they want to face inevitable combat, but is the player making the best choice for their style of play and chosen build? I really want to avoid saying 'Git Gud' here, however I strongly advocate for players to explore the profession they are playing and the tools they have available to them. Every class has been given the tools to overcome most typical combat situations, it is up to the player to decide if they want to explore and experience these tools and then know when to use them appropriately.
  3. I would be in favor of an option to consolidate different portal books/scrolls. Does it still need to be an inventory item? Could it be a new panel to select which portal you want to use? Maybe an icon on the minimap or a tab in your hero panel?
  4. While the devs may not in this case, it is typical for a rebalance to happen ahead of a major release such as an expansion. This would set the stage for the new eSpecs to fit into multiple game modes alongside existing specs. You then typically have the rebalance patch that will happen within 6 months of the release to fix the outliers. As such I would anticipate something along the timeline for the next expansion.

An MP pack that you could buy that isn't tied to the achievements or MP in game. Something as simple as 100 gems for a generic MP that can be used in any Mastery. However, I don't mind providing an alternative that removes the concerns I have for a theoretical system where purchasing MP was a thing. Just because I don't agree doesn't mean it isn't an opportunity for an interesting discussion.

  8. Anyone who played SWTOR will remember the long quiet spaces on Tattoine. Between the hubs was a lot of desert and hidden in the desert was stuff to do. Not a lot of stuff but, it was there. The highlight being that once an hour balloon ride... I would be stoked for that type of environment in GW2 since we don’t have something quite like it yet, but GW2 has a lot of map environments done as good or better than other games so I have never really been left wanting for more.
  9. I am kinda blown away by this, as I went and did everything required on day 1 and kinda left it alone as there was no indication that there was 5 tiers. Am I wrong in seeing that they updated the ticker with my contribution and the level of Tier the community are working towards now? C'mon man.... where was that day 1? I was really giving a pass to Anet on this release while a lot of other people were salty about it. I feel bamboozled now. I would have spent a bit more time helping reach the community goal rather than waiting for the next piece. As an aside, I know this doesn't affect a lot of players necessarily, but, I am playing through the story with someone new to the game and who doesn't want to jump ahead, but loves helping in these Rush type community goals. When told that they could grind and rehear the same story content over and over, they declined...rather wait and do it in context cause hey, Chap 5 is a lot of spoilers if you haven't started Icebrood yet. Even more so, hearing the same person about it shouting over and over in Metrica....
  10. Adding some thoughts on Mastery and HP/Elites... If you want to be efficient then unlocking Masteries will allow you to earn XP towards those, which in turn will give your account access to new stuff such as Auto Loot in Core Tyria, Gliding in HoT and Mounts in PoF. You by no means need any of these to enjoy the game but, the game does become a 'bit' easier with these available. As noted above, running the first part of HoT story will unlock these. Mastery Points are account wide so do once and applies to all characters. Hero Points and Elite specs (each prof gets 2 eSpecs, one for HoT and one for PoF, maybe more in the future) which are not necessary but do expand your build options to play with. These are character specific, and some may say are more powerful than Core builds, but, playing Core and experimenting with it will give you a better understanding of the game and mechanics before stepping into an eSpec. If you do not care about spoilers you can open up HoT or PoF by starting their story and joining an HP Train. This will get you enough HP to unlock one or both Elite specs available to your class. HP Trains are community player run and can be found in the LFG tool under the HoT or PoF maps. However you will be limited until you unlock Gliding (HoT Mastery) and Raptor (PoF Mastery) as they are required for most HP trains (fortunately these are also the first Mastery for each expac). That aside, there are a LOT of things you can do as a new player and it can be overwhelming. It is totally okay to play the story in the linear fashion and ignore eSpecs and Mastery until they naturally become available to you. It is okay to spend countless hours in Core Tyria just soaking up the content and stories before moving on even. Welcome to the game, welcome to lvl 80,. have all the fun!
  11. yeah and after posting this.....cannot interact with anything, game goes crash again. Is it EotN? The new instances?
  12. > @"Wisely.4819" said: > I do not care about PvP, WvW, Fractals, Raids or the meta. I just want to nyooom around > > Mesmer - VERY shiny. Does it have good AoE damage? Power Chrono with Greatsword/Phantasm. Downside is the dragon part might be lacking... But if all you wanna do is OW PvE Chrono is a lot of fun, is good ranged or melee, can be specced to hit hard or have sustain/support, and has some good aoe abilities, has built in speed boost even. Works well in zergs or solo, small groups too, can be setup to do some champs and bounties solo, story stuff is easy as well. Join team butterfly, it’s the shiniest... bonus points for going Sylvari
  13. I cannot see this promo on the Canadian Bestbuy.ca. Cannot see anything GW2 on the Canadian site actually. Is this US only?
  14. Can confirm after reset today did find the last one.
  15. "Miniatures have been hidden due to rising player population" This is a solution that could be implemented for other visual and audio effects. As player population increases in an area, automatically turn off or severely reduce the occurrence of special visual and audio effects. I like the crazy effects this game offers, but not when there are 20+ people in one place using them. Alternately, given that they provide so many 'templates' for your account (Equipment, Build, etc) why not a quick toggle for visual/audio setting templates that the user can set? I would be happy to have a A/V Template that was toned down for zergs and group play, and another that's ramped up for small group, instance and solo play. As an aside, I dislike that I cannot tell what is happening on the ground during large player combat. Is it a Combo Field? Is it an AoE that hurts me? Is it someone's fancy footprints? Who knows!!!
  16. I have run into the same issue today. I have gone 9/10 after visiting each location multiple times as per the Wiki article above, Dulfy's video and others. It appears that #6 from the wiki page above is not there. I have submitted a ticket, found this thread as the only reference to another player having this issue. Is there a work-around or way of confirming this is bugged?
  17. > @"Zergs.9715" said: > You'd still have a main story, but it'd take place in already existing maps. I'd agree that exploration is fun, but there's also something to returning to familiar places. I did vote yes but, I don't agree that re-using existing maps for new paid content is a good idea. Technically, how do you separate the users who paid for new content and those who didn't? I assume it is possible (anything fits with a shoehorn big enough) but is it the correct thing to do? I would purchase an expansion that didn't add maps if it included some or all of the following: WvW and PvP specific updates and content New Elite Specs New Weapons for Profs outside of Elite Specs (or new weapon types to the game) New Instanced PvE content (Raids, Strikes, Fractals, Dungeons) The above does come with the caveat that any of those areas being reworked extensively to make them up to date in playability, not just rehashing the same complaints about them.
  18. I have introduced a few friends to GW2 in the past year and as new players I got to hear their complaints as they learned the game. In this case, getting caught up in Rifts, Bandits, Awakened, Toxic Pods.... all the things brought to Core Tyria to entice players to LW, are confusing and distracting for new players trying to get into the Personal Story arc (let alone learning the game and timeline).
  19. What are players ‘doing better’ in this system?
  20. > @"Black Storm.6974" said: > Having the possibility to select the “top level categories” (a system that would simply show all the advertisements of the subcategories in the same tab, but only for showing/joining purposes, the individual advertisements would have to be created in the right category) would be nice and would solve the issue for people like you without having a negative impact on the experience of other people (as long as the subcategories will remain). I would appreciate this type of solution. Sometimes I want to see all the groups in one section, like looking for a PoF bounty train or active HoT meta or LSx meta. It’d be a small convenience.
