  2. Thanks, I went hunting. There are hundreds of thousands of the ugly wool items on the TP, however these items are no longer available in-game. They used to drop frequently from the Wintersday gifts. The mini 3-pack used to be 500 gems. Each mini takes 2 claim tickets. These claim tickets are only _guaranteed_ via statuette purchase. Each claim ticket requires 10 statuettes, so 60 statuettes are required - assuming 1. no wardrobe unlock gives the item _and_ 2. the player has not already added the mini to the wardrobe _and_ the player has no claim tickets. So, yes I was wrong in that the mini dolyak calf is still obtainable. However, there is a rather high bar for getting this mini now. The 3-pack used to sell for 500 gems. The new method requires time, RNG, and/or lots of gems. So while it is obtainable, its acquisition now has a much greater level of difficulty than previously existed. So I will shift to calling it "obtainable".
  3. The wiki says that this is an upgrade for the GH: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scribing:_Sabotage_Depot Supply drop requires a different upgrade, e.g. for camps: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Guild_Claiming:_Camps Does this explain the problem?
  4. There is something in the code that reads when a player exits the playable area - otherwise the player cannot be kicked because the code wouldn't exist to kick the player in the first place. Anet, like other gaming companies, uses polygons for various structures, including walls. Notice how you can't fly past some walls? Polygons in the way. When you sometimes see through your character/mount - you're seeing polygons. One option would be to make the edges of the instance a solid polygon so that it is a wall and the player cannot pass that point. This all assumes that the code is relatively easily modifiable. In the past couple of weeks I started the armchair commander achievement in earnest. For one of the Rata Sum instances, I almost got kicked out. The chair is outside the playable area of the instance and so I had to sit and then stand fast in order not to be kicked. The warning appeared.

Which might explain rubber-banding?8. does packet loss contribute to fps problems because the client doesn't know what to render until it receives the packet? Is there someone who could break this all down to give a better understanding about what affects lag? I find these threads interesting, but this is not my area of speciality so I don't understand the technical details for these points.

They don't interrupt neither his missile channel, his jump, nor his spin to win. In fact, the spin reflects projectiles, so Toxx isn't even getting damaged from rifles during it. I don't know where this misinformation comes from (although i wouldn't be surprised if it was a result of people with rifles simply not noticing people with hammers doing actual cc). > > Toxx does get damaged by rifles while she is doing her spin. After the spin a temporary reflect may occur, and that's the time a player may one-shot themselves if low on heath.

My infinite magic ones are working fine, but I bought those pre-PoF. I karma-traded for some normal volatile magic gathering tools last week. The logging and mining tools give me the expected vm, but not the foraging one. I keep hoping for an update from Anet re an ETA on a fix, but haven't seen anything posted. The bug has been present for almost a month, and appears to pre-date the Wintersday patch.

Although, if they have a friend/partner/family member who wants to kill 2500 yaks for them, have at it. Assuming a yak spawns every 2 minutes (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Resource_camp), and the same enemy camp can be "camped" over the entire time, that is _a minimum of_ 83 hours that the player's friend has to sit there to kill a yak at once side. If they can kill two yaks then that is about 42 hours. Even _only_ taking into account that camps flip, these times are very optimistic. These titles are very likely obtained by the player themselves doing the activities that contribute to the title. I wholeheartedly agree that the skin in question is definitely a Definition B type of exclusive, which in turn means I agree that there is no value in refusing to offer alternative routes. > > Also, I happen to think this discussion is supremely relevant to the thread. After all, you've been operating under the framework that there are different forms of exclusivity, and one form deserves to remain exclusive while the other can reasonably be argued to deserve alternative completions. Much of the pushback against you and OP in this thread immediately resorts to just mashing both forms of exclusivity together, resulting in the same old slippery slope argument where the person asking for a Definition B exclusive to be made more accessible gets accused of wanting Definition A exclusives watered down. Those two definitions really are quite distinct, but that distinction is usually lost on people until made explicit. > And........... the very next comment after yours is another slipperly slope "argument". Slippery slope seems to be the most common logical fallacy here, followed by (in no particular order) straw man, special pleading (moving the goal posts), and ad hominem. It appears that making the definitions distinct is having no bearing on at least one person.

As such, I would welcome an alternative achievement option _anytime_ a JP is in the list of things needed to do. I don't care what the reward is, I just hate JPs that much. This is somewhat off-topic, and I think deserves its own thread as this one relates to the Wintersday JP specifically. The problem here is the exclusive in-game-achievement skin. Now, coming to the wording, I don't mean exclusive as in "only the top 1% of players will get this" (definition A). I mean exclusive in that "these achievements, most of which must be completed within the Wintersday festival [the drinking 10,000 drinks doesn't have timing, it only has type], must be completed" (definition B ). The game has exclusive (definition A) titles. An example is Fractal God/Fractal Goddess. Another example is God and Goddess of the Arena, or God of WvW. Heck, even Yakslapper (again, WvW). To suggest (as some people, not you, have done in this thread) that getting the Wintersday shoulders is exclusive (definition A ), is almost breathtaking in its audacity. To break my argument down. At this point I am restricting my argument to the _easiest_ of the three titles I mentioned earlier: Yakslapper. I don't realistically see that any player is going to get a friend/partner/family member do the very long set of activities required for these titles. Although, if they have a friend/partner/family member who wants to kill 2500 yaks for them, have at it. These titles are very likely obtained by the player themselves doing the activities that contribute to the title. Thus, Yakslapper is an exclusive (definition A) title. Now, back to the Wintersday JP, many of us had other people do the JP for us. So we got the skin with effort on our part (repeated failure) but someone else was able to tick off that requirement. Somebody else who is good at JPs can knock three out in quick succession. That player would take 1.5 hours to complete three jumps. Now, compare that time to how long it takes to get Yakslapper - and I have created unrealistically short times in which to obtain Yakslapper. Thus, the holiday-related skins are a fashion-wars item that shows either: 1. the player did the JP three times, or 2. _somebody else did the JP for the player_. Which then comes back to the point: the skin is _not_ exclusive (definition A) content. It is exclusive only in the sense of definition B. A lucky player can get a friend/partner/family member to do the JP for them. Thus, the skin is _not_ an indicator of ability/mastery for this JP. Thus, locking the skin behind a JP penalises _players who can't get others to do the JP for them_. So, finally, who is penalised by having skins locked behind JPs? Answer: players who can't get someone else to do the JP for them during the time of the festival (definition B ). Which then leads to the question: why have a JP as required content for the skin? If there needs to be X number of activities rather than X-1 (achieved through the removal of the JP from the list of requirements) then some other option could be substituted which will more likely be done by the player themselves. An example: build n snowmen, with n as whatever number. Edited: wrong definition changed to correct one, paragraph 3.

Jumping puzzles are already extremely difficult for me, but putting them on a timer makes it impossible. I've had the rest of the winter's presence requirements out of the way for years now, but not being able to complete the jumping puzzle to get the piece of the achievement means I'll likely never get it. Why Arenanet doesn't think about alternatives for those who have some restrictions ? See how the joint pain is mentioned here in the first sentence? Many of us have pain. Hand/wrist mobility combined with pain. This is why a number of us use footpedals - _so we take some (painful) abilities off our hand/s and shift them to our feet_. Suggesting yet more things that maybe we could afford, maybe we could use (probably not, a second hand input device is not helpful, nor does plugging or unplugging stuff in so we can swap from a keyboard to an alternate device). It's another thing we would have to learn to use, _and we already have a disability which makes learning a new device harder_. Just, for heaven's sake, what is wrong with simply adding an alternative achievement to the skins. That would mean that players with hand disabilities don't then have to fork out money on other devices and trial and error to see if we can use them. It also ignores the fact that at least some of us _need extra time_ in order to do a JP. JPs that have a time limit on them, such as the Wintersday, Halloween, and Southsun Cove (skipping stones) ones, make it that much harder. It's not just being able to move and jump. It's also being able to do it with the timing required.
  12. Has there been news of any fix coming out for this? It's coming up a month for this bug.
  13. Do you gift to all the orphans, not just the 15 for the daily? Also, there is a guild karma boost. It's only 10%, but it stacks with the others.
  14. One point to note is that it appears that normal (i.e. not rich) orichalcum shares a spawn point with mithril. When you get there, you will find a mining node, but it may be mithril. The rich orichalcum ones are always orichalcum. There are two possible nodes in Thunderhead, two or three in Desert Highlands, a quite handy one in Kourna (up the hill above the inquest cave, almost due east from the main WP). There is definitely one in DWC, but I never remember where it is. :/
  15. > @"kamikharzeeh.8016" said: > thing is, till u fully build up a new guild as a new comm, it takes like 1 year at least till u gathered a sense-making amount of players and tought them how to do thing, assuming u even are aware of that yourself. @"Hesione.9412" > > @"Taylan.2187" lol Yes I am aware of this, thanks. I've helped a number of guilds level up. However, if a person has been unable to find a guild that suits them over an extended period of time, it may take _less_ time to form a guild and build it up compared to the time spent moving through different guilds trying to find one that suits. As I pointed out, when it's your guild you set the rules. You control who is a member. When you are a member of a guild you do not have those privileges. Finally, just because a WVW guild exists, and there is training, it does not mean that everyone will do exactly what the commander says most, let alone all, of the time. And unless you're talking about a guild that can create relatively large squads (>30), which are well-synced, the WvW experience will be at the mercy of whoever else happens to be on at the same time. Except when you're on and it is off-hours for the other two. Your concern about my lack of knowledge is noted.
  16. A few points: First, this game should never be compared to a first-person shooter. That comparing apples and footballs. Second, I am noticing a theme coming through when players post about disability issues. And that theme is to tell the players with disabilities that their goal is "prestigious" and therefore, too bad, the game shouldn't change to accommodate us. I'm not entirely sure which is worse, not being able to get a skin due to a disability or having other players basically tell us to suck it up. _We're not asking to be given high level pvp titles, or having legendary armour thrown at us. All we are asking is that, for the skins locked behind achievements that require a lot of hand co-ordination, to be given *alternative* methods of obtaining said skins._ As pointed out earlier, and as suggested by other commenters in this thread, the JP prerequisite can be obtained by having someone else do the JP bit for us. For the unlucky few, this is not possible.

The rewards are not unique nor is the jumping puzzle required for dailies given there is always spare dailies and even the yearly has a spare achievement. > > The only thing not accessible are the achievement points, which should come as no surprise since those are rewarded for succeeding at a specific content. That might not be the situation some people might be happy with, but from a design and implementation stand point, this content is as well implemented as possible without making different content absolutely meaningless. > > As far as the Winter's Presence achievement, yes that one requires every activity be mastered. That's how premium or exclusive rewards work. They require a player master the required content. Otherwise they might as well just put them up in the gem store for sale or hand them out freely. The best advice I can give here: **try getting used to the action cam, then map character movement (pressing both mouse buttons is the basic forward movement setup) and jump to the mouse**. It'll help a lot with completing jumping puzzles with 1 free hand. When those of us with disabilities write about accessibility, we are talking about accessibility from our perspective. For example, a business may be open from 8am to 4pm and so it is accessible during those hours. But there are only stairs outside, so the business is not accessible for people who cannot use stairs (e.g. those who are in a wheelchair). You have moved away from our definition of the word "accessible", which has the meaning specific to disabilities, and are using the word in a trivial way. This is shifting the goalposts. As we have pointed out in this thread, a skin is locked behind the JP. This means that more that just achievement points are locked behind the JP. As you point out in your last paragraph, which stands in contrast to your third paragraph. Anet are the arbiters of what content needs to be "mastered" in order to have a reward, in this case a skin, unlocked. Among the other prerequisites for the skin, Festive Imbiber is hardly an activity to be mastered, especially with the "consume all" option for stacks. One could argue the same for the other prerequisites too. Killing the Claw of Jormag three times during Wintersday is a boss fight where it is easy to get credit, and many of the events times for this are quite full because of all the other players doing that boss. Finally, there are those of us who have been lucky enough to have another person complete content for us, when it is difficult due to our disabilities. Thus, not everyone who has the shoulders has "mastered" the content. There will be others like me with a partner, or friends, or family, etc, who have done it for us. We are not asking for the items to be sold in the gem store or handed out freely. That is insulting to those of us with disabilities who are more than ready to do something else in the game as a substitute for the jumping puzzle requirements. To compare us to people who want hand-outs is beyond the pale. Edited to add: often people without our disabilities do not understand the full nature of our problems. Thus, solutions from able-bodied people may not suit our particular situations _because you don't know what it is like for us and what we are struggling with_. We may have more than one disability and don't want to mention them all. (That last sentence is a general point, and not directed at the OP.)
  18. There are some maps where the griffon excels over the skyscale, although these are currently LS: Istan and Drizzlewood Coast. Given that DWC came out after the skyscale was released, it appears that Anet will continue making maps that differ in which of the two flying mounts has the most utility. The griffon takes much more practice than the skyscale. There is a keybind that creates a rocket booster effect for your diving (you hold the dive and the booster keys down) and then you can shoot up and away so fast (and rinse and repeat). I have a tendency to slightly overshoot targets because of the speed and my ping. The skyscale cannot remain in the air indefinitely, although you can hover. You cannot recover the blue bar by hovering - it only refills when the skyscale is perched on something that the game considers a ledge, or branch, or ground. You can partially fill the blue bar by pressing the mount against a vertical surface and using the orange bar. However if you are trying to get up somewhere high, this is unlikely to be the end solution to getting there. That is an improvement over the griffon, which can never get you up a high vertical surface as it lacks the ability to go high from ground level. Finally, the griffon is prettier and has nicer skins.
  19. It's hard to know what to suggest given that none of us know your criteria for joining a guild. Actually being serious here: could you start your own guild? That would mean you set the rules and expectations, and have control over membership.

Yes, they were bullying the OP, who has a valid point about reporting guild names. As a general comment, backing Zephire's (I think) implicit point - please correct me here if I'm wrong - we all need to stop giving mockers the benefit of the doubt, e.g. "or they are just curious". So-called devil's advocate opinions should be limited to counter_factuals_ and not excusing negative behaviour on the part of other players. To quote Churchill: "Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled. Some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage." Coming back again, under the ToS that Anet have about naming policies, it is clear that players can't go around using any old name that they wish to use. Any player can report another player for a character string that meets any of Anet's criteria for offensive names. The alternatives would be to: 1. have an Anet employee validate every single character string that people use in guild and character names immediately they are created, which would introduce a time duration between constructing a name and having it approved, and/or 2. have a list of strings that people cannot use, and all the problems associated with that. Thus, a player report system has been implemented. And yes, it would be good if there was a report guild name option. The in-game report function does not provide an ability to give context (the guild name is being reported, not the player name). The alternative appears to be opening a support ticket, which enables all relevant information to be provided in a text field. However, this does require the player to go outside the game in order to produce a ticket, and therefore is a more onerous option. Including a report option in-game would be great.
  21. The naming policy includes guild names: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-naming-policy/ So if the name fits one of those categories, the offensiveness of the name has already been decided by Anet.
  22. Do you have a friend/family member that can come over and do the JP for you on your computer, under your watchful eye, when you are logged in, where they don't get your login information? If not, I use a foot pedal to jump because my left hand is pretty bad. I can still touch-type but avoid using the thumb. I have the jump key programmed to my footboard. Re timing. The quaggan path gets you to the fire ahead of the presents, with no disappearing snowflake difficulty. However, you can still freeze to 0 health if you're not fast enough on the jumping. For the presents bit, jump up the middle. These presents disappear the slowest and so have the most leeway for time. After this part, I tend to do the pipe slower than other people, using the half peppermints on each side between snowballs. For the stick candies that are long and narrow, I jump sideways onto them. So, instead of jumping to 90 degrees, I jump to more like 120 degrees. This means that jumping too long has a bigger tolerance, because you will simply land a bit further along the candy stick. Finally, work on the JP over and over again _in the same session_. The reason for this is to build up a rhythm for the bits you do, finishing with a rhythm to the peppermint with the fire. I know that it is hard to continue at something that is frustrating. However, if you can work past the frustration _and you're not in physical pain_, keeping at the JP in one session means that you are likely to have more success. Taking a break, which can relieve frustration, means coming back to an uncompleted JP and pretty much having to build up the rhythm again. Treat the JP as a series of "pieces". Identify the first point to which you want to get to. Once you get to that point, aim to get to another point further along the way. This way, you're treating the JP as a series of problems to solve, rather than seeing it as an enormous single problem - which can be overwhelming. Get excited and positive with yourself when you reach one of your milestones! Hey, you got there! You deserve to give yourself a pat on the back when you hit the milestone. Even if it takes you a couple more tries to get to that milestone consistently, that is an achievement in itself. Be kind to yourself when doing it. Finally, it is disheartening to get to the peppermint fire, only to fail to make the presents jump. I have been there often as well. (I have cursed the Anet gods more than once for not putting a check point at that fire.) However, when you get to the presents, you have done well over half of the puzzle, and you have done the MOST difficult bit. Finally, I'm cool with putting achievement points behind activities like JPs. I accept I will never get the clocktower JP done. However, putting unlocks behind JPs is not cool, because it penalises those of us with higher ping/disabilities. 23. Making the NPCs more robust to damage would be a huge improvement.

The thing is, for new or returning players, nowhere does it say that after paying $30-$80 for the expansions you're still unable to play many parts of the story. As a matter of fact it says Icebrood Saga is included, which as you just stated is clearly not the case, it just gives you access. Anyways, it's a real bummer for me especially since i'm one of those people who is really into the story and achievements. Lastly, i'm not sure if this is true, but a guildmate said that the least amount of money ArenaNet made in a year was a tad under $50 million usd, it would just be nice to let their customers know that even after buying the expansions you still arent able to access 2 dozen episodes. Merry Christmas :) I'm going to pull out one of your points here, which has been discussed a number of times. Having expansions advertised and then finding that the LS episodes are not included. _I agree that Anet should be more clear about this when advertising the expansions._ There are some players for whom the story is not interesting and they happily play along without it. There are others who see the story as a unique feature of GW2 and therefore experience huge narrative jumps because they don't have the LS episodes. As well as having players purchase the missing LS episodes with gems, perhaps they could sell the LS episodes as a tack-on option for real life purchases? Then it would be obvious what the expansions do not contain, and players who wish to purchase the LS episodes can do so at the same time. And continue to have the LS episodes in the gem store so that players who later change their minds can still purchase them. Anet???...

However, I would like to point out that the OP appears to be asking for a one-size-fits-all build. Tanky condi builds are a legitimate choice for that purpose. This is particularly true for players who struggle to be effective in glass meta builds (the OP also mentioned dying too often on ele in PoF). > > That's why I suggested the weaver build that I did. It's an ele build that is anything but squishy yet has strong enough damage to be perform adequately in any content. I don't want to clog the entire thread with endless video clips, but you're welcome to look at what I have on my channel. For reference, 32.5k T4 subject 6 burn in Dire gear (you don't have to do trailblazer!). I've also run CMs with this build without issue. 25-30k range on golem benchmark. I have burst demos, champion and legendary solos, PvP duels against top rank players, WvW roaming. I've even tested glass stats and have video of that to compare to my performance in tanky stats. It's all there to prove that this one-size-fits-all build works well enough to do whatever I want to do while playing the class and playstyle I love. > > I get that this does not qualify me for snowcrows, but I perform well enough that it's never been an issue for me in terms of other players giving me a hard time regarding my performance. I thought that might be helpful to the OP, given what they were asking for. > Thank you for all the videos you do, I find them helpful. Videos are the best way for people to work out what type of profession/build they want to play. You see the playstyle of the build, including rotations, when specific utility skills are used, as well as the build itself. Being able to see how something works should not be undervalued. A video can make a player go "heck yeah, this is what I really want to do" versus "nope, no way am I ever doing that". Videos can permit a visceral reaction to a prof/build, something that 10,000 words will never do. I hope the OP finds the videos useful/instructive.
