  1. Do you have a specific mission where this is happening, and a specific NPC?
  2. One aspect to keep in mind is that leveling a character is very different to playing a level 80. The weapons/skills, utilities, and traits can be very different, expecially as you won't have enough hero points to unlock the elite masteries. There are quite a few leveling videos on YouTube, as well as videos of people using their level 80. The comments on YouTube videos can be very helpful, particularly when people are asking about why certain weapons/traits are used.
  3. I would like to be able to see enemy AoEs on the ground without other particle effects obscuring the information that is most important.

It is far more likely that someone at cap knows certain basic elements of group play and fundamental combat. Yes, you can get carried through a number of achievements. That being said, I doubt that anyone cared enough to ping every single mastery without learning basic things about how fighting and this entire game generally works. So yeah, a hard disagree with you on this one. It _is_ a marker. It's just not a maximally precise or guaranteed one, and I never pretended it was. > > > > You can't talk to probability, you have no evidence either way. > > I do, though I haven't documented it. Read the rest of the post. I did read your post. You have anecdotes. You do not have probability.
  5. I followed this guide to level it. https://gw2crafts.net/scribe.html Looks like it left out the instruction to buy enough of those sheets.

(I.e. they are made and then they significantly change undermining the population balance attempts Anet makes.) > > The spawns aren’t the issue. That’s the initial post on here by the OP. Added to this: the server that purposely tanks in order to get into a tier where they _can_ do this. If the match-ups were even, this wouldn't even be a thing because they'd be too busy defending/retaking. The current match-up system isn't working, it hasn't worked for years, at this point rolling a fair die would possibly do a better job.
  8. The problem isn't so much the mobs as it is _inconsiderate players_. The number of times I have asked in map chat for players with mounts to not use them, and to hold back on dps so the lower level players can get credit..... Perhaps one way to go forward is to make mobs on all central Tyria maps immune to mount skills, in addition to the player nerf. Or, as I have suggested in a thread long ago, stop the events in central Tyria being a daily for level 80 players. Level 80s who mentor other players will still be on those maps, because they are there for altruistic reasons, and it should stop the swarm of 80s descending on the maps and ruining the experience for the lower level players. If anyone reading this thread is one of the posters about "the game is dying", _this is how you kill a game_. Make the play experience frustrating/negative for new players.

So if I see low AP and single digit mastery points, it's safe to assume they're newer to the game and don't know any of the expected speed/convenience strategies. That gives me a chance to ask if they want to learn the big-boy methods, or if they'd like to take it slower. > > If I have a group of 349s with a 341 mixed in there, I know the 341 has done every mastery point except for raids, and there's actually a good chance they would absolutely bristle at the group if we just wordlessly did all the speed clear tactics. Again, seeing that specific 341 number gives me the chance to check with that player to see what they want out of the run. > > Of course, the easiest is with a full team of 349s. Chances are they know the game, and know the dungeon. Even if they're clearly running some meme build, that won't matter to me, because it's _very_ likely that they know basic things about not breaking stealth, stacking with the group, cc, and all the other little things that go into making a smooth run regardless of builds. I don't even have to bother to ask anyone anything, we all just know what to do and expect. > > But outside of either end, I agree that especially in the 100-250 range it's a real mixed bag and tells me nothing at a glance. I don't think that's reason enough to encourage getting rid of the display entirely, it's just the nature of having a wide range of numbers. Playing in world events, many players either don't know there is a break bar, don't know what skills to use, or can't be bothered. And people do stuff without wondering about the consequences (let me tell you about the time three players new to the tier 1 swampland fractal decided to click on the challenge mote...). I've also had low mastery-point, low-AP people put out high DPS, not die, in a chak gerent lane because that character was on the alt account of a regularly raiding player. There are so many ways to get mastery points, and so many carries for players, and the ability to have multiple alt accounts, that mastery points are meaningless in most situations. If 90% of the player base has only 10% of the DPS of the top players, it suggests that many players have high mastery points but hit like a wet blanket. And possibly don't react to fights properly (step out of AoEs, reserve dodge for when you really need it, don't hit the NPC when reflects are up, etc). Check out WvW where players put down the wrong field, won't stack with everyone else, stand back and won't engage the enemy,... While the bronze, silver, etc show time spent in WvW, time is not necessarily a marker of ability. tl;dr information such as mastery points is not a marker of player ability/knowledge of the game.
  10. Also, some servers (guess one!) purposely "tank" in certain tiers specifically to end up one tier below. And then proceed to make life a misery for many of the players who sit in servers in that lower tier. These will be the servers where players order other players to take objectives only and not fight, because fighting and winning increases skirmish points, makes the server win skirmish after skirmish and stops the server tanking. You may wish to hold off until you are paired with one of these servers. Players can be quite nasty when you interfere with their inter-guild agreement to tank.
  11. There are a couple of open terrain holes I have fallen into/jumped down into (not sure why, I think I was trying to get somewhere and fell) and I haven't been able to get out of so had to wp. And at least some of these are in central Tyria. You can't fly/springer out of them because you get told there is no space to mount. I'm pretty sure at least one of them I down into. So you can get a mount to place you there (and I didn't use the wings option to dismount so the mount landed there) but you can't summon a mount to get you out of the place that your mount landed you in. At the very least, if a mount can land inside you should be able to mount inside as well.
  12. For mastery per region - that brings in a new wrinkle - mastery points for fractals and raids, both of which are PvE. So, would these PvE mastery points only show once inside the relevant place (staging areas)? For WvW, I guess there would be no mastery point indicator.

Looks like all 3 servers lost objectives recently. That is what red is going to look like all week. As well as being focussed for fights. As well, our skirmish scores tend to be a couple of hundred lower than those for green and blue. I'm on a paired server. We don't have coverage across many of the hours. We don't ever seem to be paired with a server that does. With guild transfers between servers messing up the glicko, etc, I suggest that Anet simply use random numbers to pair servers.
  14. When two servers decide to leave each other alone and do this: https://imgur.com/a/LlFEeo2 And I cannot work out how to embed because the image isn't showing when I try to embed. This is going to be my life all week (I'm red).

  16. Assuming you are in a guild with the arena unlocked, you could play around with this using a couple of guildies to see the mechanics (e.g. one guildie can put fear on you, the other guildie can give you resistance). I'm not sure that the arena activates either the PvP or WvW restrictions on skills, etc, though - and I assume you are wanting to know this for competitive environments.

I've already tried out wow and ffxiv and enjoyed them but never got to max level. I enjoy this games leveling and combat way more than those two however I've always like playing a healer(as I find doing damage in mmos extremely boring) and enjoyed the idea of working as a team to bring down the boss. As far as I can see so far healing isn't really a thing in this game and the team work doesn't really go beyond reviving and putting down things to make your team do more damage. > > Furthermore I've managed to get to the first dungeon and found that it felt like I was hardly contributing to the damage compared to everyone else and made me think what's the point of playing a game where damage is the main aspect but when you go into dungeons it doesn't even feel like you are doing damage. Idk if I've got this all wrong so I'd appreciate any help given or to see if you guys think its just worth playing another mmo so I can do healing > > One major difference between trinity games like WoW and non-trinity games like GW2 is the build system. In a game like WoW you choose a role and then you choose from talents that support that role. So, while you're making choices, the range of choices you're presented are limited to that role. Not so in GW2. You can build however you like...which means you can design a build that has poor synergy and tries to do too many things at once and ultimately fails at all of them! > > This often leads to a disconnect in perception. For instance, a quick youtube search found a video of a successful group completing the final boss in T4 nightmare fractal challenge mode in about 11 minutes. Then I see a video of the pros doing the same fight in 1:15. The difference can be pretty dramatic. So, if you're feeling like dungeons are full of bosses that have way too much health, this may be part of the reason why. > > While we don't have true healers here the way WoW does, the healer/support roles we do have are every bit as important. That 1:15 speed kill video relies on boon support to magnify damage output for the group. This includes not only boons which increase damage such as might, fury, and quickness, but also stability and healing to prevent stuns and allow rapid recovery so your DPS can focus on damage rather than playing defensively. The rules are different here, but healer/support roles have a big impact just as they do in trinity games. If you, OP, have tried/would like to try WvW, healing when running in a squad is extremely useful. There are guilds out there who focus on WvW, and you would be very welcomed as a healer, especially if you can cleanse. There are some metas where healing is helpful (Palawadan in Istan), others not so much (anything in Auric Basin). For the former, if you can offer boons as well, that is helpful too (chak gerent in Tangled Depths). Much of the Dragonstand meta has place for a healer, except for the end fight with Mordremoth. tl,dr: healers are worth their weight in WvW and some PvE metas.
  18. I'm wondering if I buy the sickles now, but not use them, whether any fix will apply retrospectively for tools that are _unused_.

Just a small change. It's locating the chests that requires shovels, which can't be purchased. Opening them requires keys - which you can buy.

Maybe that's happened and I haven't noticed. I just see my "experience" bar at the bottom of my screen go just past zero again, with yet another spirit shard showing as the reward to the right of the "experience" bar.
  21. There's been a problem reported previously - weeks ago now - for the EU servers. Are you on EU?

  23. > @"Cuks.8241" said: > Hmmm I don't know about this glider thing. I never noticed anything buggy about it, like keys not registering. Mastering your keypresses, feeling for your keyboard is a part of platforming though. So if there is no bug it is all part of the game. > Maybe it is just a bad keyboard. I have a bad keyboard lately and it is like night and day. Never again do I buy Razer keyboard and mouse. Expensive kitten that has worse key registering and feeling than the cheapest Logitech stuff. Longer ping, which fluctuates a bit. Also has the fun effect of sometimes, in wvw, autoclosing a guardian tome immediately after you tried opening it. It was only me and the Aussie guardians which seemed to experience it. And when I say longer ping, I mean >250 ping.
  24. For the love of the six, I wish the following were implemented in combination: 1. remove the ability to glide in the JPs OR allow a different keybind for the glider 2. add checkpoints with an automatic revive at the last checkpoint. Other players in other threads have already pointed out that those of longer ping means we tend to soar past the jump point because it is difficult to know when the server has registered our key press as a jump rather than glider. I have had numerous experiences of tapping my jump key, only to have it not register and see my avatar fall down. Then I get to that point again, hold the key down _a little bit_ longer and watch my glider deploy and I soar past the jump platform. I've seen the "advice" of just tap the jump key again to get rid of the glider. _If tapping the jump key worked in the first place the glider would never have deployed._
