  1. Which player marker do you mean? And what part of Taco is making it hard to see?

I've been playing since launch, and I started poking at Winter's Presence early on. My sticking point was the JP requirement, I could not beat that thing. Until last year when I finally learned there is a path where the snowflake platforms don't disappear so I can take time to adjust my cursor back to the middle of the monitor. Voila, that done, all I had to deal with this year were the two Essences (which is where the mystic coins come in). As it happens, coins have been building up in my bank all these years, and I've kept them just in case I ever needed a mess of them to craft with. So years later, as of last night, I have Winter's Presence! > > It took nearly all that time to drink 10K drinks, too. > > So if you just do the parts you can do, without pushing yourself, by the time you need the coins you very well might have the coins just from log in rewards and rare in-game sources. Plus you'll have many other mats built up, at least if you are a pack rat like me. I got impatient and bought the last snowflakes I needed, along with some miscellaneous other mats, but I don't think I spent more than 50 gold out of pocket yesterday. Yep, I worked towards mine over a period of three years. There is a gold/time trade-off. I thought that the item created a skin for all shoulders, so that you could get more than one character with the effect. Is this not the case?
  3. > @"Genesis.4751" said: > Part of what brought this discussion up is the other day doing **T4 fractals** I posted an lfg for **all welcome**. It wasn't a speed run or a cm. Just basic, go at your own pace fractals. Midway through one of the fractals i had an elitist firebrand start jumping on one of our other party members telling them to switch to a dps build instead of the build they were using that was more comfortable for them to play. After watching them go back and forth for about 5 mins I finally had had enough and stepped in and told him to back off, that it was an all welcome party and we weren't trying to speed run. That is absolutely ridiculous. If it were raids then yeah I get needing to do things a certain way so you can kill the boss before it enrages but even then I don't agree with how raids are set up to where certain classes are usable because they aren't "meta". The first thing that came to mind is wondering if this obnoxious person was known in the T4 community for being toxic, and would get kicked out of any party they tried to join. I wonder why that FB didn't organise their own LFG... There are the few that ruin it for the many. While I don't run T4s (I'm probably not good enough for the mechanics), I've done a couple with people I know and they were fun. But long. Do you know some people in-game - they don't have to be guild - that you enjoy playing with and also like doing T4 fractals? I have an ever-expanding friends' list where I make sure to nickname people with an accurate note (e.g. "helpful jp mesmer"). When you find these nice people, do you talk about friending each other so that you can see if each other is online when you want to do another T4 or T4 session? Blocking players doesn't work to prevent them from joining your group, which is super annoying. The best approach is to come up with a method that works for you, that will give you a party of players with whom you want to spend time. The good news is that people with whom you are having fun, are also having fun. These are the types of players who make positive comments in party chat (We did it!, gj!, etc). Good luck in the future.

  5. Please introduce a block feature on the forum so I can't be spammed by pm's from the same person.
  6. I would have a look at the videos on YouTube that multiple players have made re their builds etc. Level 10 isn't a good indicator of what your character will be like at level 80. There are build recommendations for leveling - particularly engi - that then are completely changed at level 80 because of the traits you now have available. Many of these are showcased on YouTube, with discussions around which runes/sigils to use. I've seen videos demonstrating builds for the same profession in PvE, PvP, and WvW, that all build on a similar theme. All the videos I have seen have their comments section open, so you can ask questions about the build/playstyle. There are so many videos that there is no way I could link a comprehensive list. Boring is a relative term, so I am not sure that any of us here can address this for you.
  7. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, they're all very helpful. Things I need to understand better: 1. in which situation certain combo fields are better than others 2. how to optimise runes 3. assumptions around group buffs (distance, interactions).
  8. > @"Jski.6180" said: > I am still waiting for main crit dmg combo set they talked about years ago. > > They let trailblazer in the game there is NO combo that would be more broken lol. Trailblazer was meta before PoF came in. The problem more seems to be releasing stat combinations that are viable (setting aside some of the initial ones - does anything use Sentinel?) and then introducing "balance" which removes the stat combination as meta/viable. I have light celestial ascended gear in the bank from when celestial tempest was a meta build for wvw (depending on squad comp). Again, that was before PoF came out.
  9. No I hadn't. Thanks for the tips. I had them in my inventory for the Sparkfly Fen one, with no problems and had _assumed_ (more fool me) that this collection was okay with the others there.
  10. Thanks for all the comments. I'm in a wvw guild, and I was hoping to make myself more useful by having a deeper understanding of how the builds interact with each other. Instead of coming as a completely new person who is going to learn, rather than help.
  11. I got in-game help, thank you everyone. It turns out that the correct platform is the one that you can slowly step backwards onto, from the goggles platform (again, the hill side obscures your camera).
  12. Thanks all. Meow Ren, I will look you up, thank you. Yes, it's somewhere post-chest. Instead of jumping down onto the airship, you have to jump up to the first of two of those whirly things. The first one is supposed to land you on the second one (as long as you aim right) and then the second one puts you onto a platform (as long as you aim right). But the second whirly thing has a pipe to the side that directs ?steam onto it. So the longer you stay on that part, the more damage you're taking. No matter where you put your portal rewind position, you are going to take damage when you rewind back. In this area, mounts are unable to be used. It's a really horrid task you have to do for the collection. I wish it was the blue ring thing just before the jump to the chest. I went there thinking it was and wondering why there was no interaction. I managed to get back up to where I was from there, and then things turned to custard. There are three jumping puzzle requirements for Bolt III :( I managed the other two.
  13. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. That's been very constructive, even though the "theorycrafting for beginners" page I was hoping for doesn't exist. Further suggestions welcome!
  14. Just tested mine. All three unbound magic tools are giving unbound magic. That's going to potentially be a nightmare to debug.

Although for sure that one _wasn't_ met with warm reception from the community. You had me look stuff up there! There isn't a "paid for" type of mastery in Bitterfrost: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/A_Crack_in_the_Ice_(achievements) I went hunting for the expensive achievement, which I thought was a mastery, but it's not: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Koda%27s_Blessing I remember seeing that one and thinking: that's 5 AP I will never get. Is that the one you were thinking of?

There is an argument in adding them to the gem store in this thread, but before they even consider that, they'd first have to expand the progression skippers, that they are ALREADY offering, to include expansions as well. > > Arenanet sells progression so players can get out of the free/core part of the game because they want you to get to the paid staff as quickly as possible. After all, the drop off in any video game is very quick for the average player, the less time they spend as free players, the better for a conversion. Plus progression skippers are very common in free games, and are expected there. But Arenanet knows full well that in paid games, progression skippers on cash shops aren't needed. And those of us who had played before HoT came out weren't credited any Tyria masteries. Beliefs are incredibly hard to change. I figure that's why so many have given their considered input and then bowed out of this thread.

Therefore, it shouldn't be a problem to sell MP's because the fear you won't be able to get them if people can buy them is based on a misunderstanding you have about how people play the game. The barrier to getting MP's isn't people, it's organizing. If the game ever has so few people that MP's can't be obtained, it will have shut down LONG before that point. > > > > What is egregious to you is not a objective metric for a gamewide consideration of what is OK as P2W and what isn't. Clearly, you need that differentiation because it must be hard to know you say you won't support games that have P2W ... all the while logging in and playing GW2 like it doesn't do it. > > I never said everyone had to have the same cut off for whether or not they support a game or not with regards to pay to win. > > I do not support pay to win decisions. With it being so few items right now, me actually playing the game still and not buying anything I feel crosses the line actually helps my cause by lowering the percentage of players who buy the items and use the items. Which lowers the chances of them adding more. > > But your posts have been all like if someone suggests adding some buy to progress thing to the store we should be silent on it because of precedent so that ANet will put it in because "it doesn't affect me" will eventually lead to everything you have to unlock being buyable. Which is egregious pay to win. > > Which does affect me in the long run. The players who buy those unlocks will on average be the first to leave because they've "done everything" and have nothing else left to do. Which is odd because they bypassed most/all of it in the first place. Those people go around and then claim that there's not much to do in the game. Which turns off potential new players because who wants to join an MMO that's been around for a while that doesn't have much to do. The reduction of new players would then hurt the game as current players drop off due to the fact that there are very few games that people typically play for long periods of their life. Meaning that players who do not want to purchase those unlocks will be hurt when there's not enough players willing to actually do the content. Meaning they either have to buy the bypass or just do without. Which then hurts the game as those players go around and state that the game is dying and doesn't have many players further hurting the game's new player acquisition and making the problem worse. Another poster above went over what it would do to the actual content that ANet would put out at that point to account for those players who bypass everything. > > So excuse me for looking at the big picture and what letting suggestions like this go uncontested would very highly likely do to the game if ANet took silence as at least approval of adding it to the game if not out right support. Every time they type something in chat, after their name is "(paid for mastery points)". They have the compulsory title of "Paid for Mastery Points". That will warn the rest of us that the player probably doesn't know how to play at least part of the game. Should this be introduced to the game, _and should I then decide I want to keep playing_, I don't want to play with anyone who has purchased them. :)

I don't think it has any worse kiting implementation than other similar games (based on my experience, correct me if I'm wrong). Obviously you can't just try and kite a mob through half of the map. That doesn't seem to be anything out of ordinary. > You are in combat because you are the one that made that happen. At this point you probably understand that kiting a mob too far from its original spawn point results in the mob trying to "hard reset", so... don't do that and you're fine? You're literally complaining about you making the choice to run in a straight line away from the mob for too long -that reset mechanic isn't the cause, you are. As far as I know kiting in this game isn't somehow inexplicably hard, you just need to make a u-turn every now and then, instead of trying to abuse limited mob behavior. Thank you for telling me I don't know how to kite. That's very helpful. Especially as it doesn't address the point I made.

I ran a simple test, how long does it take for me to mount from the time I killed a mob and cleared debuffs. I generally stood still as combat was ending before mounting, and repeatedly clicked my mount button until I was mounted. The fastest mounting time was about 3 clicks, the slowest was about 9. I measured my click speed using a Beats per Minute/Tap Tempo tool. I was clicking at 320 beats/clicks per minute. Meaning that my 9 click mount time was taking about 1.7 seconds. It didn't appear to matter what zone I was in, what mob I had just killed, the results were pretty much the same from mob to mob taking 0.6 seconds to 1.7 seconds to mount after combat. > > Now, I was theorizing that lag would impact mount time but, I have had fairly stable latency between 70ms and 90ms. Although the PoF maps do tend to be higher than others, and I did see my latency bump into 150ms on those maps only, it doesn't appear to be significant enough based upon the testing I could do. As well, my FPS has been fairly solid at 60FPS or better, as visual latency can sometimes cause interface issues as well, but not in this test. > > Would those who are having issues exiting combat say that my experience with the tests above are better, the same or worse than their own in game experience? > > My thought was, as there have been complaints about PoF maps having increased latency, does that affect areas of the game like leaving combat? Games generally have a back and forth conversation from your PC to the server and back so your actions are reported to the server and responses are sent back. If there is increased lag between your sending "deathblow attack" and the server responding with "mob defeated" then your time to exit combat would naturally increase. However, from your perspective, timers are still counting down smoothly, you are moving around the game world okay, but as you are still technically in combat until you get the all clear from the game, which prevents you from mounting. > My ping fluctuates between 250 and 280.
