What are you doing to enjoy Kourna and Beetle?

Recommended Posts

I got my Beetle, completed the masteries, completed the map, got the home instance node, and finished the episode 3 story. But after spending a few hours in the map and playing around with the beetle, my overall impression is meh. I'm having trouble finding things to do in the map that hold my interest, and I just don't see the point of the beetle.

Rather than making a post filled with complaints about it, I was hoping to learn what people are doing to have fun in the new map and what they're doing to enjoy rolling around with the beetle. Perhaps there are some key things I've overlooked that would help me enjoy this new release more.

Yeah, the new map isn't great and the beetle is not fun to use due to the obnoxiously long wait to use the speed boost. It's a shame.

Not a lot, actually. Running around doing achieves and farming mats, and once I get the zone mastery done, I'll probably go off to other things. Nice to meet my Herald, finally. But I feel overall that this episode was rushed (the ridiculous number of bugs shows that) and the story definitely could have been written better. It seemed like they were in too big a hurry to reach a conclusion, in both story and coding.

Also, let's face it: until the game mechanics change such that all-out offense with full Berserker and Viper stats isn't the dominant paradigm, there's not much they can add to make extended play in a particular zone more desirable to get gear. Seriously, go to Quantify and Metabattle and look at the meta or highly recommended builds; except for a few specialists (Druid Harrier healer, Chrono Minstrel tank, etc.) the "best" character builds are all high-offense core game or HoT stats, mostly Berserker and Viper. Until that changes, there's no point spending a lot of time in the LS4 zones to farm gear except for Fashion Wars sake, because very few "optimal" builds use PoF stats. Viper doesn't come on PoF gear and Berserker gear can be acquired more easily elsewhere. Minis? Please...I have more important things to do with 105K karma, which also is a ridiculous amount when you think about it.

Long delay and big hype for a middling result. The beetle is fun in its place, and that's about the best I can say about it.

Traveling the maps looking for beetle skate parks, ramps and the like.

Just find a great spot at the Vehtendi Academy - the lower grounds are a so-so, compact circle - but you can break away, out of the Academy ground through the NE entrance, hurtle down and towards a chunk of rock, ramp it, fly through the air, onto the airship and then..

Love it. With the regards to the beetle mount, they've given us a toy to play with. The amount of fun is down to each player's imagination with where and how to use it.

I farmed map currency so I could get that dauntless commander backpack. Kind of lame though since the only difference between the ascended and the exotic is that the ascended has a dragon fixture on the top.

Once I’ve bought all of the heart vendor specific items, and completed the turret achievements, I’d say that I’d be done with that map completely. There’s nothing to draw me back to that map after all of that. The meta is kind of meh.

Nooo! Sandswept Isles is my favorite of the LS4 maps! I love it. <3

Kourna, well, you cannot really run a bounty/event "train" there since it gets stale very fast. A second board is sorely missing, we even have a second waypoint. I go to the map mostly solo and just to some relaxing events or running around. I like the northern landscape though. Southern part around Gandara not my favorite area.

There are many NPC dialogs and interactions of them with the environment. If that's your thing, listen to them, listen to the statues, follow the NPCs around. A lot of detail went into those.

I did enjoy doing Kourna events for The Gendaran Service Medal (backpack). But I agree that the meta is uninspired and I probably won't go back much after my collections are finished. The meta would have been better if they had two or three lanes instead of just one. And something interesting inside the moon fortress.

It looks gorgeous but there is a reason the map isn't very popular lol

Not only does it kill framerates, the fun on it also died in one of the boring meta events. Imagine doing an event chain where the actual fun is the build up to the finale. The wave defense is so much better than the boring fights against the specimen. That's like 8 minutes of my life I won't get back for regular champion loot, just that the mobs have multiple millions of health and mechanics that put me to sleep.

And don't get me started on mister Zohaqan who doesn't afraid of anything - especially not actually hurting the people who slap the hell out of him

Yes, that was a joke because to get downed in this fight you need to either play with your eyes closed or without a keyboard

My favorite though is that HUGE wyvern! Oh look, it's this huge boss and even has mapwide messages on the side that he's around..

Yeah, you can solo him without ever taking any damage, the only damage comes from the smaller mobs and yay, it's another normal champion with normal champion loot that took a few more minutes to kill.

Once I unlocked the beetle, I left Kourna and never looked back. I’m _really_ having fun doing core-Tyria map completion with the beetle, though. It has freshened up an otherwise stale task. I love blasting through the maps—topography permitting.

Kourna is unfinished and as soon as I'm done with the achis I prob won't revisit it.

The beetle is a neat gimmick and therfor very niche. It's fun for a speedfreak like myself and I hope that I'll someday learn to better control it.

When I think about it though, I'd rather have a finished map and no beetle, than a realease broken beyond repair and a gimmicky niche mount. Sry for the negativity, but I can't see how ppl can say that this was an ok episode, I know YMMV, and there are things I do like. I liked the story, especially the instances feel very engaging, I kinda like the new Stats eventhough I haven't figured out what could make use of them and I think the map is overall pretty to look at and roam, the downsides are just too numerous on this one. I would really like to praise ANet for an awesome release but I just ca't with this one, at least not if I want to be honest.
