Archangel.1357
Griffon on dive 2 vs full speed beetle, who's faster? :v
Danikat.8537
My guess is the beetle. Although that's mostly based on the fact that I find the beetle harder to control than even the griffon on full dive speed. At least I still have time to see obstacles coming on the griffon. Randulf.7614
Officially, the top speed of the beetle is the same as the griffon, altho ive heard the beetle is marginally slower. That might be due to a lackof smooth terrain since the griffon can traverse a constant line easier
Illconceived Was Na.9781
Here's some actual data to help answer the question: https://old.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/aq0n1c/data_mount_movement_research/ >! ![](https://i.imgur.com/bl9GdhV.png "") tl;dr Griffon at peak (dive + flap) not quite 10% faster than Beetle peak speed (the start of boost) your mileage **will** vary because the mounts also have differing drop offs (how quickly they lose speed) No one has really answered the question of "which mount should I use to get from one side of Tyria to the other?" Khisanth.2948
Griffon, even if you make an unfair comparison of rounding up the beetle's speed to 1800 u/s and rounding down the griffon's speed down to 1900 u/s.
MithranArkanere.8957
They both have the same top speed. About 300% faster than players. It's probably a server limitation.

It's probably a server limitation. Player speed is capped at 400 u/s. 3x that is only 1200 u/s. Both the beetle and griffon can easily go above that. The griffon can maintain 1900+ for a decent amount of time, can't tell exactly how long because I keep running of map while testing in the GH ... Tekoneiric.6817
Not sure about top in speed but the griffon is better at sustained speed. When going to Kessex Hills from the airship in Gendarran Fields I use the springer to jump on the airship to get extra altitude then switch to the griffon and do a power dive to gain speed to cross the map quick. Using the roller beetle you have to contend with speed drops with ever rise in the terrain, turn, etc. The single power dive with the griffon is enough to cross the map without loosing much in the way of speed.
