Azure The Heartless.3261
More classes should put self-conditions on themselves on their utilities. (Also necro needs fixes badly because it is mechanically exploitable but more on that later.)

Alatar.7364
It was a brain child of an Ideal that the Devs had for their game at the release. Today _(for quite some time now)_ it is very outdated/irrelevant function, at least in my opinion.
Curennos.9307
IIRC, they were supposed to justify the higher relative power of the skill while synergizing with the class's (supposedly) increased access to cleanse, condi transfer, etc - unskilled users would suffer from the self-damage, while more skilled players would time it with transfers and cleanse to see a net gain. They tried this again with Mallyx, which (for unfathomable reasons) has a GM trait that damages the rev just as much as it does the enemy - clearly intended to synergize with the spec's hefty Resistance access and condi transfer, except it doesn't actually work (and rev's condi transfer trait is in the same line as the self dmg one, so that's contradictory). It's a remnant of a time when condis, and damage in general, were much less creeped up and should definitely be given another look.

This is why by design transfering conditions needs to be a minor and not major trait to vary yet keep damage to scale. Transfering the self torment is extremely powerful but only possible with Herald right now, it also isn't affected by duration increases which also should IMO to increase it's potency. I've already made more suggestions that concerns it in my QoL post, some have disagree with the placement of Yearning Empowerment, but it's not that big of a change in damage compared the changes it could do to have better burning or just more torment applying altogether. The ICD of Maniacal Persistence is also a stupidly high one, 1 second would have been plenty just so synergies that pulses resistance like Firebrand tome 4 wouldn't spam so much torment. Lmao u should see how necro from gw1 works... classes here can carry even inflicting conditions on themselves, deamon rev does the same.
