nxsage.6578
Any ideas? Is this part of their new strategy for collecting feedback?
Cyninja.2954
Yes, because feedback on youtube videos is of high value and quality. /s It's most likely the reason why many channels, which do not live off of youtube monetization, disable comments: to prevent trolls and internet negativity. When/if the developers want feedback, they make threads on both reddit and the official forums which can easier be followed and moderated.
LolLookAtMyAP.8394
This is a common tactic for video game developers, to avoid trolls and the vocal minority to dissuade players. Positive vibes only :) Edit: their videos seem to be commentable for me. Maybe you got banned from posting there?
demitel.1340
What do you mean? They have comments enabled on their videos.

Raknar.4735
Comments are only disabled on the unlisted video made to announce tomorrow's Guild Chat. I don't think it'll be the norm. Edit: Link to the post for anyone wondering https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-chat-shadow-in-the-ice-preview/

Comments probably turned off to stop speculation from uncovering what the trailer means until the Guild Chat?

My employer keeps comments turned off on their Youtube channel because they only really use Youtube as an easy way of uploading videos that can be linked on social media, and it would be just another thing the social media managers have to monitor with no real benefits. Especially since Youtube comments seem to be so much more negative and irrelevant to the specific video than anything else. All the organisations we work with do the same, probably for the same reasons. Youtube comments just aren't worth the hassle.

Fair enough but disabling comments? Is that really the solution? As a developer wouldn't you want to know how your content is received by your audience? As a developer wouldn't you want to know how your content is received by your audience? Cyninja.2954 already told why. Those unlisted Guild Wars 2 videos are meant to be discussed on the forums. Short preview videos would just be useless clutter on their channel and it's easier to gather feedback here. Don't overthink it.

Healix.5819
The unlisted videos are specifically made for articles/whatever and are not meant to viewed directly, thus they disable the comments so they don't have to moderate them.
Arden.7480
Not lengthy vids are unlisted and have comment section turned off, to prevent channel from messiness and troll-free still you can upvote or not, so it's also some sort of feedback. Especially since Youtube comments seem to be so much more negative and irrelevant to the specific video than anything else. All the organisations we work with do the same, probably for the same reasons. Youtube comments just aren't worth the hassle. That's just an excuse used by cronies to cover the actual motive of disabling comments - to prevent alternative opinions and spread of information they don't want others to know. Comments have nothing to do with the publisher of video and all the responsibilities are with the user who left this comment. They don't need to moderate anything there, it's none of their business. Youtube moderation team will intervene, if needed.
