I agree with the controls. Although there can be adjustments. As to the HOT, I don’t see that being a reason.

Please do post said 'admittance'. I would be curious to read the Dev statement.

_Wooden Potatoes_ doesn't work for ANet. You linked a series of 20 of his videos, with a total running time of over 14 hours. Which part includes a developer "admitting" that the game was poorly made? Or that HoT was a "giant patch that players had to pay for?"

In any case, what has that to do with the core game?

Because the engine isn't very optimized for multiple cores and makes cpus that run at 4GHz cry.

Imagine the performance on an XBOX One that has 1.75 GHz... it would barely reach 5 fps.

The Guild Wars engine was created at a time when 8 GHz was supposed to arrive soon-ish, before multiple cores became the standard. Guild Wars 2 uses a heavily modified version that at it's core is still badly threaded.

As a very similar example, the original Crysis couldn't run on consoles of the time (because the developer was waiting for those 8 GHz CPUs) and so they had to use a brand new engine for the console versions, a new engine that supported multi-threaded perfectly and allowed that game to run on consoles. Arenanet hasn't shown any desire to remake their engine from scratch, like Crytek did, not only to make the game run better on modern PCs, but also to allow porting on console. Maybe they don't have enough engine experts? Or is not a priority for other reasons we don't know of.

It is in the very first video. What it has to do with the core game is that HOT fixes the core game. It was badly set up and caused that your characters essentially couldn't grow. Hence GW2 couldn't be exported to different systems as you just ran out of stuff to do.

Timestamp?

What does the design for horizontal progression instead of vertical have to with porting to other systems?

There are some twisted facts and interpretations of that video (yes I watched it).

Regardless, it has no bearing on why a console version doesn’t exist. Ultimately they chose to focus on one format which appears more complimentary to the gameplay, the monetisation and the wvw server set up.

The release of HoT and its pros and cons and focus on being described as more feature orientated than content, has nothing to do with this discussion

Quite the logic bomb here, sparky.

Quite clearly not familiar with GW2's history.

HOT ruined the game. So you are wrong!

Is WoW available?

What is warenfrane?

Mmorpgs on console seems like a good idea, but most consoles don't allow for fast patch cycle.

And you really need some kind of voice input cause typing with a gamepad is just annoying.

PS. Warframe is pretty much third person shooter with like 4 buttons? It's not the hardest control scheme to port.

Other than being poorly made i dont see what exactly makes it less so playable with keyboard and mouse than say, eso or ff14?

Also really, where was it said that hot was a big patch, which in a sense it is as all expansions are and what does this have to do with console releases?

MMO's are diminished on consoles typically graphically and tend to have a far more restrictive hardware limitations.

If there is a slight chance for Gw2 to be diminished by a console release I would ruthlessly argue the game remain exclusive to PC on that alone.

Lots of games on PC release on console as well but in many cases they are inferior versions and often times lead to PC versions being diminished so that they can't show the obvious hardware advantages PC's can have over consoles.

If people recall the Watchdogs scandell years back when the game was shown at a very impressive level of visual detail and fans were later angry that the released game looked nowhere near close to what was shown.. even on Pc the world and visuals were heavily downgraded.

That was because of console hardware limitations and the PC game which could provably handle more as they clearly showed was purposefully restricted so as not to showcase just how inferior the console versions were.

This is a common practice in the industry which is why PC gameplay is often used to sell console versions of games that just can't achieve the same level of detail and performance etc

Consoles have certainly grown over the years and there are some impressive looking games on them but fact PC potential is vastly superior even to current gen consoles and while the gap has diminished over time it's still significantly wide and will be for a long time to come yet.

MMO's is one genre that should just stick with PC imo and push to be the biggest and best that the can be without having to worry about console hardware limitations.

Thats still not reason for it to not release on console, thats the design the game has chosen and ppl still come back to it for various reasons, theres nothing specific about consoles that makes that not be the case.

In some aspects yes, in other no.

As someone who plays on controller, I can tell you that the controls can seem complex and would not appeal to most players.

A joy stick is also not as accurate at aoes as a mouse, meaning controller users are at a noticeable disadvantage and slower.

I'm pretty sure Wooden Potatoes would be quite against you using his OPINION as a fact, which is what you seem to be doing here. I've seen his videos, stop using others opinions as facts and provide a statement from a person that currently works at or worked at ArenaNet that explicitly states GW2/HoT was poorly made. The design choice was specifically chosen so that more people could play it on PC than just those with gaming systems...you can literally play this on a 10 year old computer without any problems.
