Realm portal spiker?

Is this achievement still doable? I want to complete the shadow of shadow achievement as I have four done already but have to do the portal spiker one which is a whopping 100 times. I don't see anyone doing the meta anymore never mind the achievement? The shadow of shadow has been showing up in my almost done achievement panel and I would like to progress it. Thanks!

Use the LFG when the event is up. People still do it daily.

Even when PoF was the big thing going I wasn't able to do this one. Even *trying* to spike portals during the event I am still at 0/100 as best I recall. By the time I pick one up and get to the "turn in" point, the boss is melted and it's too late.

 

It feels easier to get ANet to program a toggle so you can tell the Achievement Summary to ignore certain nearly-done achieves than to spike portals 100 times. And no, I don't expect that QoL, ever.

I have never seen the event completion go so fast that someone present at the portal at the start does not have enough time to do at least one spike.

*sad smile* Could be that I'm just that bad at it then. Or else it's not crediting me, or I'm misremembering the amount I've done (though certainly if I have any spike credits it is in the low single digits). I did try for a while since I'd like the Shadow of a Shadow, but decided it wasn't worth the blood pressure.

Are you picking up the spike, priming it, and then using it on the portal? I’m trying to figure out what may be causing you to not get credit because the event doesn’t complete that quickly. Even with a ton of people, it should be up for more than 20 seconds at least unless a recent patch introduced a scaling bug.

Anet didnt changed it to a timer? i guess its more easier now if its on a timer.

i checked, its timed now,, i did it when wasnt timed, and u need jump into map instances to find one with event starting.

It's been a while. But this "priming it" part sounds like maybe I'm not doing that bit. How do you prime it? Or I'm doing that part but then targeting the boss not portal with it? I can't be sure. It's always a confusing mess of motion for me. Maybe I'll go back at some point and try to suss out the three steps you describe. Thanks for the pointer!

I've pretty much gave up on this thing for being so tedious(worse than Hungry Hal) but usually the issue was locating a residue in a sea of enemies and allies.

It should be 'pick up residue dropped by enemy' -> 'pick up spike from barrel' -> 'use on portal'

Tag up for meta (commander, apple tag).

Only bother with one lane (north or west - east bugs out a lot more frequently than other lanes and it's a pain getting people to try and prevent the bug). Only focus on more than one lane if you have a squad of about 15 people (5 per lane) - can be done with less per lane really but relying on randoms is what it is.

Wait at spawn for n/w, do the escort, once you get to portal you have to kill enemies with "Realm" as a prefix to their name - eg realm skimmer - and then f interact to pick up the dropped residue. Once you have residue (will be a buff above your skills) go to the barrel of spears opposite side of the platform to the gate and f interact with it. This gives you the spike and will replace all your weapon skills with nothing, and you can now run to the centre of the platform and f interact again to spike the portal.

Once you finish either north or west go do the lane you didn't do - bunny over the barricades for speed. Leave east unless people completed the escort while you did that and are spiking the portal, or unless you have enough ppl to organise all 3 lanes from the start.

 

On average, you can get 3 spikes per lane from start to finish. Sometimes more if it scales up because lots of people don't know how to do it so they don't progress the bar - my personal record is 9 spikes per one with a whole zerg.

This was the only AP I couldn't get with PoF for nearly two years. As soon as those hero chests were added, I grinded it out as hard and fast as I could to make that AP set disappear. RIP newer players the older the content gets.
