  1. Friends and I have always wondered why the repair system still exists. I mean, they have removed the cost. So it adds absolutely nothing to the game anymore and I doubt people buy so many repair canisters with real money that Anet keeps this 'feature'. Anet pls, all or nothing.
  2. Fractals are getting worse. Not in the sense that the fractals are bad, but that for me it has simply taken the sense out of fractals. I was just talking to a friend the other day about how much we would have preferred that anet has makes the new fractals as raids. Along with all these reworkings you can't do fractals+recs as casual within 30-40min anymore.... Since my active time 2 years ago, where I ran daily Fracs CM + Recs the groups also shrunk so much and so many non CM-Groups skipping all these new Fraks. But friend said people wanted harder fractals so .... wonder which people that were *looks to the forum where probably again heaps of answers will come how great and easy peasy everything is*.

I, for one, would probably not grind for them unless there was something very specific I liked about it. Also, as has happened with other in-game, earnable items, if players don't grind for them upon release they can find it a lot more difficult (almost impossible in some cases) to obtain them due to map population changes. As a very casual player, I have missed out on most of these opportunities. > > Really? According to this argument, there should be nothing in the game. Then all these threads where people ask for things like mastery points to be added to the gemstore wouldn't be a thing. Because then everything in the game would have to be available in the gemstore because everywhere people are excluded. Uff ... And isn't it always mentioned here on the forum how lively gw2 maps are? And that the game is a group game with guilds?
  4. I would really like something like that. I mean, why not? Something like that would feel a lot more rewarding to me than grinding a ton of gold for an expensive gemstore skin. I've never understood why there are no earnable skins. Even two gliders were added later in the game and is that why people don't buy gliders anymore?

Also, the post might be true, if the comparison is with let's say Nomads (haven't done the math but it's quite possible), but otherwise it looks like misinformation, or misunderstanding. The most important part of damage in this game is Power. ANY set that doesn't include Power will be really far behind in damage compared to the others, regardless of what stats it offers (even on most condition builds). Which is something a lot of theorycrafters and builders fail to understand. For example, Power has a higher impact on your damage than Precision and Ferocity COMBINED. > > Second important part of damage is being alive, if you are dead you don't do damage. Its from here "Don't take this as shitting on your parade Viper gear has expterise, which gives condi duration. You get pretty close to 80% extra duration afaik. If you don't have it, stands to reason that that you're doing something like 55% of the damage you could on a condi build. The consolation is that you at least have access to viper armour/weapons. Work towards as many ascended vipers weapons/armour pieces as you can with stat swapping and take Carrion trinkets. Just know that you'll be doing a good deal less damage. Even just getting LW3 episode 3 would fill 3 of your trinket slots with vipers quite easily. You can also get a free ascended amulet for finishing HoT's act 4 achievements, so that's 4/6 slots. The last 2 can be filled for 100 pristine relics each from that same vendor. Go to a new tab and they're called Mist ___, they're pink. You didn't mention what your situation is now armour/weapons wise so my best advice until you can manage the above is to go core power warrior. It might be less exciting but it's the meta fractal build and the gear is way more accessible. Then once you get ep 3 and the 200 relics you can switch over Or just do you, people won't care much below T4s" I think I had the part with the dmg wrong in my head. But for me it had read as if viper was the non plus ultra. With survival or so I have no problem. Have long time very successfully played raids and cm. Which is the reason that I now for my second account does not want to buy all living world parts again and have searched for replacements.

All of the equations are on the wiki ([condi,](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition_Damage) [power](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage). The only hard part is putting it all together. But, what you can do is take some shortcuts to see how much you'll be doing in each little part. > > Say, for example, you want to compare how much condition damage you do in Sinister gear as compared to Viper. The [item Nomenclature](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Attribute_combinations) page has how much each set gives you. Throw on some runes and sigils (Bursting, Malice, Nightmare), and you'll get the following stats > > Sinister: 1,556 condition damage, 0 expertise, 30% total condi duration, 5% increased damage > Viper: 1,348 condition damage, 633 expertise, 72.2% total condi duration, 5% increased damage > > From there, you can see how much damage you'll do with each condition. For example, say that you have a skill that inflicts 1 stack of bleeding. Bleeding does 0.06 condition damage + 22 for every second. So, we'd get the final numbers: > > Sinister: 121.13 damage per second for 1.3 seconds, coming to 157.47 damage > Viper: 108.02 damage per second for 1.72 seconds, coming to 185.80 damage > > You can do these kinds of calculations for all of the other conditions, and for all of the other gear prefixes. You can change runes, add or subtract traits, add might, etc. For reference, this means that Sinister does 84.8% the damage of Viper. > > -------------------------- > > Doing power damage is more straightforward. So long as you don't throw in a bunch of confounding variables, you can compare gear sets by using the effective power method: > > Effective Power = Power x (Crit Chance x Crit damage + Chance to not Crit) x Damage modifiers > > There's a similar value I use for durability. I call it effective health, and it is basically this: > > Effective Health = Health x (Armor / 1920) x damage reduction modifiers > > The whole thing is divided by 1920 to make it much easier to understand. 1920 being the base armor for exotic scholar professions. > > An example of this is something I did awhile ago to cut someone down. I gave an ele a Berserker Set, and then a Soldier set, and showed how they compare. It looked like this: > > Berserkers: > Power: 2556 > Crit Chance: 50.8% > Crit Damage: 229.1% > Health: 11,645 > Armor: 1967 > > Effective Health = 11,645 x (1967/1920) = 11,930 > Effective Power = 2556 x (.502 + 2.2914 x 0.498) = 2556 x 1.656 = 4,233 > Effective Health X Effective Power 50,499,690 > > Soldiers: > Power: 2556 > Crit Chance: 5% > Crit Damage: 165% > Health: 21,255 > Armor: 2928 > > Effective Health = 21,255 x (2928 / 1920) = 32,414 > Effective Power: 2556 x (.95 + 1.65 x 0.05) = 2639 > Effective Health X Effective Power: 85,540,546 > > Now again, you can do this with all sorts of different sets. Just keep in mind that effective power isn't that useful when comparing two different professions. When you do that, all of those pesky variables that normally cancel out suddenly don't, and the math quickly becomes nightmarish. Effective Health, however, is useful across all professions. For reference, Soldiers has 62% the damage of Berserkers, while (for Ele) it has 272% of the effective health. > > ---------------------------------------- > > Finally, there's always the brute force version. For this one, you basically buy the gear sets, go to the training golem, and see which one does more damage. This method is highly subject to your personal skill level, but your chief concern should be how well you do personally anyway. I actually did something like this years ago when I compared the auto attack damage of... nearly everything on the meta builds. > > > > @"Konrad Curze.5130" said: > > Agree but I think that ship sailed long ago. I really doubt Anet ever had the intention of balancing gear, even in the first year of the game when berserker was what 99,9999% of the player base run they didn't even bait an eyelid. > > > > Defensive stats exist only in name in this game, in fact building defensively is more likely to make things harder for you, you won't be substantially more survivable, but your dps will fall off a cliff so fights will last longer, you'll take more damage as a result, and die even sooner. > > > > If they had any intention of making toughness, healing power or vitality count for kitten they'd have done so years ago, it doesn't require a huge commitment to change anything massive, it's as simple as balancing numbers, moving knobs up and down. > > > > They didn't. They still don't. What we have is what we get. We'll keep looking at 95% of stat combinations and shaking our heads while we equip nothing but berserker, viper and maybe marauder if your lucky that doesn't get you kicked > > That is a very common misconception. I did some math to show it above, but when it comes to overall impact the defensive stats are quite useful. The Effective Health X Effective Power product I did above has Soldier gear leaving Berserker gear in the dust by a significant lead. This is because the increase in overall durability far outpaces the loss in DPS. If you wanted to build your toons for overall statistical effectiveness, you'd stay away from the glass cannon prefixes. I can make a strong case that Marauder is actually the best set in the game, because it has 90% of the damage of Berserker with 6,330 additional health on top. You won't end up doing worse overall by going with tankier gear. > > This myth comes largely from players not understanding how important tactics are. Most of the damage that meta builds do comes from the meta tactics. When a player decides that they want to do well in the game, they adopt both the tactics and the gear prefixes of raiders, and when they see a massive increase in performance they attribute it to gear. Personally, one of the reasons why I'll swap to Marshall (Power, Healing Power, Precision, Condition Damage) gear on my weaver is because it lets me beat champions that I struggle with otherwise. That wouldn't work if the healing power did nothing. > > I still recommend Berserker to most people though, because it is the best in time efficiency and loot per second... but only if you're good. Granted, there are places in the game where durability is nigh useless. Anyone who's fought the Sand Giant has learned that lesson. Thanks for that, then I can leave viper for now. Since I have as I said no access to the jewelry on the fast because I only own the expansions I can not draw a direct comparison and must therefore rely on the inet ^^. You were the first who could explain it and not just talked around, so thank you :).

You certainly don't lag 50-80% behind Viper setups if you use something else. Well ... maybe if you decide you're going to rock some Nomads ... So you have numbers what makes how much dmg?
  8. I find this funny. I am looking atm for a good combie to equip my Mirage with. Since I don't have access to Viper jewelry except I think fractals or raids~, which all still takes a bit. And it's scary how overpowered all the meta stuff is. Sure you don't have to play meta, but some still don't want to lag behind and when I then read on reddit that without Viper you lag 50-80% behind no matter how well you would play, that's just not justifiable in my eyes ...
  9. I also like the skritt idea better than any color effect for the whole game. Make the skritt quaggans so that quaggan haters can vent their frustration on them when everything and everyone becomes a quaggan. A friend of mine would love that~.
  10. I think a ready-check would not work there either. Some are just super impatient and want to rush regardless of losses. Even a ready check would not really prevent this :/. I know it e.g. in the swampland fractal how often I am wiped with some groups at the lights because someone could not wait until all have "r" written ... These are usually the same people who first leave the group and do not see that perhaps they also belong to the reason for the wipe.

So if you're not in the habit of doing that it's probably not clear immediately how frequently it does get done. Lol, have not even noticed. Just saw that someone rantet about my favorite meta event xD. Some things never die.

If you had already unlocked Champions then you've got the full thing - access to both part 1 and 2 - and will be able to play it whenever you're ready. Ah i see, thank you. How confusing ...
  13. > @"Pifil.5193" said: > Hi, > the Chapter doesn't unlock in the same way that an episode does it's a continuation of the current episode. Do you have Champions unlocked in your story journal? If you swapped to a different story you may have to restart the Champions episode. If it's already there andif you go to the Eye of the North does Rytlock start talking to you? I went to the Eye of the North and got a couple of mails, Rytlock started talking to me and the story continued. So you need to have played Champions to unlock the new episode? Or do I understand this wrong? I don't see Chapter 2 either, but I'm still a long way into the Champions story and don't want to have to play it and get spoiled just so I don't have to pay for Chapter 2 later oo.
  14. Oh man, I was just relieved. I thought briefly you get the infusion only for a certain time oo. Will it be much more expensive after the event is over? Since I atm still hang on POF, I didn't want to do the new stuff yet ... Or would it be better to do it now, since it looks like it has nothing to do with the story anyway?
  15. Just don't spam it. If you see or think that people are being too harsh at an event, just post it once in mapchat.
  16. > @"Inculpatus cedo.9234" said: > Choosing a server when creating an account is not a server _transfer_. > And, no, all new accounts are not 'convert' accounts; only those converting from Play4Free to paid accounts. I didn't say that. I had chosen a server when I created my account(after I bought hot) and later, when I found my guild that also did WVW, I used the Free trans. Therefore, this confuses me right now and therefore my question if not all new accounts are then f2p accounts or what was different with mine?
  17. > @"Inculpatus cedo.9234" said: > First server transfers are only free for players that convert from Play4Free to paid accounts. > Otherwise, there is a Gem cost. > > As noted above, server populations are only determined by WvW participation. Back when I bought HOT and created an account, I had a free server transfer, even without ever having played f2p.
  18. No from me! The good thing about GW2 is that you can always come back without any cost. And to kick someone from their server just because they are inactive for whatever reason would be more than unfair. Imagine someone comes back after a few years or so (which is not uncommon for GW2 and other MMO's) wants to play with his guild, but had to choose a new server because he was kicked and his server is no longer free? I understand your frustration in this regard, but please also consider the other side. I had this case myself once where I started and my guild were all on a different server than me. I then simply waited until a place became free, which usually does not take long. At the latest after a new WVW matchup. The first server transfer is even free. > @"Danikat.8537" said: > They basically do have this system already. Server populations are based entirely on the number of people regularly playing WvW, not the total number of people who have picked that server as a home world, so accounts which have been inactive for a few months won't be factored into the populations because they're not going to have been in WvW. Even people who do play regularly but never go to WvW won't be counted. > > That's also why it takes a few weeks for populations to change and tricks from other games like logging in during the middle of the night to catch a lull in activity won't make a difference. I didn't know that yet. Thanks.
  19. We know how good Anet is at balancing things fairly without punishing anyone ... And I don't know where the maps are empty. On the contrary, even without Daily, the core maps are filled with beginners and veterans. Since map completion is a thing in GW2. Above, a simple solution has already been mentioned how the problem of daily rush could be solved. The developers should rather consider how to revive maps that are really dead :).

In other MMORPGs, where your character is nothing more, really, than an observer, and a participant (one of many) of events, you can do it, because there's no impact on the story whatsoever if the observer/participant changes. The events will still continue regardless, with other, truly important (NPC) characters doing stuff that moves the story forward. You can start from point X, because, in reality, your character hadn't done anything important enough in the past that will have any impact on the story moving forward. In GW2 you can't do that - not without it heavily complicating the storyline, that from that point will have to include multiple past histories. With some of them having much lower impact than the others. > > Just look at whole LS 4 and LS 5, for example. They all depend on Commander being **the** Aurene's chosen - an unique connection that takes place during LS3, so even before PoF. If a new race were to be introduced during PoF, and started at this point, it could not really participate in all the following story up until now. Not as the protagonist of that story. > > Sure, you could technically start a completely new storyline that in no way would be connected to what had happened before, but that would be extremely limiting. Especially in an expansion that is supposed to be a _closing act in the current story_. I meant that you just pretend that this character is the same as the other races. No new story. I don't think most people would even care. Many would just be happy about playable tengus. Here in the forum there would probably be a short rant, but that would die down as quickly as the many rants that have already happened here. The story of gw2 is really not that good and well thought out that there would be anything to say against it except that anet would have to put resources into it that they probably don't have. But this is just my personal opinion about the lore-thing. Tengus themselves do not interest me so much. Except I could design my own Ravioli-Birb with them x3.

So it was only introduced to make it harder for weaker players? I once had a fractal run in Furnace and was the last one standing with my Engie at one point on the final boss. Because an older, not so good player died, her husband wanted to heal her at all costs, died, then a friend wanted to heal both at all costs, died and a friend of mine was also dead relatively quickly due to the chaos. Two of the four dead have changed the char and are then joined with another character while I have tried everything to stay alive. Idn whether that is now still possible but I can imagine how frustrating that must be for some when not. And I can still remember my early days in the game, where I lay in dungeons dead around with random groups because very few care and always push on even if you ask. But you have to live with something like that when you run with randoms, its sad xx. > @"Tony.8659" said: > I'm going to guess this has been brought up before. But now it's getting a bit annoying and I'm sure Anet can fix it. While joining a group in a dungeon, why am I always in combat when I just entered? I don't care if my team mates are in combat, I am not and I should be able to waypoint in the dungeon instead of sitting there until they are finished fighting. Many times I just left the group after a while. Sometimes I do not want to walk all that distance where there is a waypoint right there I can use. Terrible design. And when I fnish that 200 AP dungeon achievement I will not be returning again. Find a guild, or friends. You rarely have to deal with such ignorant people then.
