You're slowed and you're taking damage from the spinny thing. Sure, fine - on my warr I'll use Stomp, no big deal. But I'm slowed, so it takes a bit and I'll take a decent chunk of damage regardless. But wait, there's another trap that damages me if I leave its circumference - which is fine, but there's still the spinny one that is gonna hit me if I stay in there. And then there's an unblockable spear that can yoink me back into it (the yoink goes through dodge, too). > > > > > > All of these things are fine alone - trap that damages you if you cross it? Okay, dont' cross it. It has a pretty decent radius. Or there's a trap that damages you if you stay inside it and you can just walk/dodge out. But then, and then, etcetc - and then comes the part where the goal of the entire mode is to capture a point. Do you see how all of these things have conflicting counters? Are there counters? Yes. But they're totally inadequate, conflicting, convoluted...however you would like to describe them. > > > > > > > > > > You keep talking about spear. > > > > I don't think you have even the tiniest understanding of what it is you're complaining about. > > > > Burn DH will not use spear to pull into traps, because then it loses all pressure from VoJ. If you're against a burn DH, the BEST THING that can happen to you is that it uses spear. It's literally the DH giving you a free win and going "hey, guess I won't do any damage for the next 20 seconds". > > I'm explaining how the mechanics can stack and create convoluted counters resulting in unfun gameplay. Not being paid to read things to you, but you can copy/paste things into google for some help if you need it. Nope, sorry, your "counters" only make sense if you're imagining some magical DH build that is somehow both simultaneously a power build (the references you make to the damage from Test of Faith) and a condi-build. A magical build that is somehow able to use spear, and also retain VoJ damage. All while ignoring the most obvious counter, which is that if a DH blows its entire utility bar to make a point un-contestable for 3 seconds, then the DH has made itself super vulnerable to any pressure outside of those 3 seconds. If a necro uses all its utilities on Wells, then you can't go on point when it drops them all. Does that mean necro wells are OP? Or does it mean you are expected to be able to apply the 3 brain cells it takes to not stand on point for that short duration, and then punish the necro afterwards for having 0 sustain utility? Just imagine it was a PvE boss. Every 20 seconds, for a period of 3 seconds, it farts out massive damage in its immediate vicinity. Even PvE players can grasp the concept of "don't be near the boss when the big damage is happening". Although I guess they did have to make the PvE boss damage fields ultra-bright in order for people to understand something so basic.

  3. I mean, if we can't get simple changes to skills or runes, what do you think the chances are of a wholesale re-structuring of server architecture?
  4. I think what you're discounting is the possibility that, by the law of averages, these pro plays will sometimes happen even if people are just randomly mashing buttons. Monkeys and typewriters, etc
  5. I enjoyed it more when every 3rd thread here wasn't a poll on the Feb patch.
  6. I mean..... it's not been the same meta for the last year? A year ago we had symbolbrands. Then we had bunker necros and bird-rangers. Then we had tempests and condi-revs. Then we had nadesmiths and symbolmonkeys. Then we had (and still have) healbreakers and renegades. Healbreaker+Renegade has been dragging on for a bit now, but the first half of last year was pretty wild.

Weird how people are treating the spirit weapons as if they're in a vacuum and the guard does nothing to try to set it up. I don't think it's a major issue, but imo there are a lot of factors coming together and causing issues - frequency of condi application. CC, traps, and so on. Back to spirit weapons - I can see how the sword could be an issue. For classes that aren't constantly bouncing around the map, or if you're suffering cripple/chill (which is an entirely reasonable thing to happen), it'd take some resources to get out of the spinny thingy and they have...what was it, four of them? And then throw in that guard has some imobs scattered about its kit and things get a little overwhelming with how many times it can go 'spend a ton of resources and be nowhere near the general vicinity of the node or you die'. > > > > I think Zephoid also has a good point. While I don't want to see CC skills hitting as hard as they did, maybe AA level damage would be appropriate > > Guard has immobilize scattered around its kit? > Apart from a 2s immob on a 20s cd on scepter 3, where do you find the rest? Remember, according to these forums, guardian can take 6 trait-lines, including FB & DH simultaneously, 8 weapons, 20 utilities, and 3 different amulets at once. Nevermind the fact that if you're taking sprit-weapons and traps on your utility bar then you can't be taking shouts/signets/mantras. No, ssshhhhh, don't think about it. Don't apply reasoning. Just complain.
  8. > @"JusticeRetroHunter.7684" said: > Here's the thing about time of day. It's a myth. What are you talking about? It's a well observed phenomenon that if you're P2+, then if you queue up during prime-time you'll get matches against other plat players, and if you queue up at 4am, you'll get put in games with Silvers. Making the distinction between "the time of day" and "the number of people queuing (because of the time of day)" is beyond pedantic.
  9. > @"RedAvenged.5217" said: > Is ranger trash? I think it would be S teir if not for burn dh- which in every single category is the hardest ranger counter in the game Yikes. Ranger is probably the biggest hard-counter to burn-DH. Because 1) it has pet to trigger traps for it, 2) most builds have very strong cleansing, and 3) it has a good selection of ranged weapons which are perfect for kiting a DH and staying away from its traps/symbols while pewpew'ing down its HP bar. Thief or warrior having a hard time with trapper DH is understandable..... but ranger?! Ranger right now is being shut out by Renegade. Back on topic: So what's your solution OP? Either you'd have to prevent people from swapping classes during the pre-match, which has all sorts of problems, or, you'd have to completely remove any class-balancing logic from the matchmaker and making it truly blind/random, which would make it possible to have teams composed of 5 of the same class. Does that sound preferable? Really?

The problem with that patch is it went against the actual rules and regulations the company had set forth. Imagine thinking what these elitist think will help ppl, same thing happens in politics- they just waste all our money, commit crimes and go around making ppl unhappy. 1. Rolling back power-creep wasn't something that the "elitists" wanted. Power-creep works better for elite players, as they can leverage more power further. Rolling back power-creep was done for the plebs, so they can survive more than 0.5s. 2. What rules and regulations? What are you even talking about?

Aaaaaand, someone else looking at the death breakdown instead of the combat log. I'll say again, it's broken, it isn't telling you what actually happened. You're basing your opinion upon faulty information.
  12. > @"seraph shay.6170" said: > Got hit with no joke, 99k hits of burning. Can't even get on the point to have a chance at skyhammer. That means you managed to heal through something like 70k or more. Or does your build have 99k HP ?? Please stop looking at the "death breakdown". It's garbage. It doesn't tell the truth. It doesn't reset the counter for conditions, which it does for power attacks. With power attacks, it only shows you the immediate damage recently taken that immediately resulted in you dying. Whereas, with conditions, it shows literally every condition tick you've taken since you spawned, even if some of them happened 5 minutes ago. You did not get "hit" by 99k burning. You _accrued_ 99k burning damage over your entire lifetime from spawn until death, which if that was 3 minutes, means you're only taking 500 damage per second. See how this stuff looks differently when you actually work it out? If it worked the same way as it does for power attacks, you'd also see death breakdowns showing stuff like 99k damage taken from stuff like grenades or rapid-fire or... etc. Look at the **_combat log_**. That will actually tell you what is happening.

I say 15s, from SoTP, and another 15s from Dolyak, and you say "5s+5s". You're totally ignoring what I'm saying and just imagining something else that is more comfortable to your ears. This is going way too far off topic, so I'm stopping here. The fact that you can't use ranger optimally or understand its mechanics isn't my problem.

Does it really matter to you if its the "same" stack? The effect is the same, continuous stability for 15s. This is really pedantic to complain that they're not the "same" stack.

Go and try it yourself before arguing further. Essence of speed doesn't add additional stacks, it extends the duration of existing stacks. And with Merge/We Heal As One/Fortifying Bond..... if I have a 6s stacks, I let it run down to 1s left, then merge, which gives me a new stack for 5s, so the total uptime of 10s. No, it's not the same stack, but I've none the less extended stability uptime.

From 5s to 15s..that's like 200% boon increase...and 5 sources of quickness?...1 requires you to be at 50% and the other needs a pet swap, lastly there is the stunbreak..so where are these 5 sources of quickness? 50% stability uptime...just what are you talking about? > > In the end I only corrected a poster about the need for ranger stunbreak access and low access to stability...I dunno there is even need to prove it, your "build" wouldn't work anywhere not even in WvW with the unnerfed version of the utilities > Its very simple. Take the initial 6s from SotP, boost it to 8s with 1 application of quickness, then boost it again after 5s to make it 10s, then merge with Fortifying Bond to get up to 15s. Didn't even need to use We Heal as One, which would let you get up over 20s.

You can't do that anymore, which is entirely appropriate. Yes, essence of speed needs quickness. Lucky, this build has 5 different sources of quickness. No, the duration would not be 5s max. You could in theory take one application of 5s and drag it out up to 15s or more. If you stagger dolyak stance and SotP so they're 30s apart, then you're approaching 50% stability uptime. Zero-condi clear? 2 separate sources of resistance, which can again be extended to 10s or more. As well as dolyak stance cleansing movement conditions, cleanse sigils, and a 2-condi cleanse on 20s CD with the beast ability. That's pretty decent anti-condi. Look, I'm not here to argue that boonbeast is secretly amazing, I just made a comment that ranger doesn't actually have awful stability access.

Is it meta right now? No, but 2 years ago people were basically running this build and it was dominating hard, so its not a totally ridiculous idea. Pre-nerf boonbeast basically had 100% uptime. You can't do that anymore, which is entirely appropriate. But you said "almost no stability access on ranger" which is just wrong.

I think only a meme-Firebrand with Hallowed Ground would be able to pump out more.

That Symbol specifically has such random explosive damage that even without all optimal damaging options, it's still reaches whack numbers; Mmmk, having gone in and tried, apparently this is theoretically possible. However, the combination of traits, runes, sigils, utilities, amulet, and other circumstantial conditions that make this possible are simply not realistic in an actual game and on an actual viable build. It's about as valid a test as saying that Arc Divider can hit for 18k+...... I mean yeah, it can, if the planets align and you take a wholly unrealistic set of traits and gear. For example, you've had to take Zeal, Radiance, Virtues, which means zero sustain. You've also had to take every single DPS trait in those trait-lines. It's with Unscathed Contender (increased damage while under Aegis) which is something you'd never have for the full duration of a symbol, and its also with things like Scholar rune for the 90% HP buff, which again would never happen, and 2x damage bonus sigils on the weapon, meaning no energy, no cleansing, etc etc. It also only works when you're using Save Yourselves to give a big stack of boons, in order to benefit from Power of the Virtuous (1% damage per boon), which is not something you can do every time the symbol is available, and means burning a 50s stunbreak for the damage boost. And, finally, you must have tested this ALOT to get all 13 hits in a row to crit. Not to mention that the target is standing still and just taking it, which again is something you'll never see. I play zerker guardian alot, and the usual damage for symbol of punishment is in the 3k-5k region. Reminder, that's with zerker amulet (so 11k HP) and 2 full damage trait-lines, so a very very glassy build. And the reason its typically in the 3k-5k region is that nobody ever takes more than 2 hits from it. You don't even need to dodge, just walk out of it. Even if the immobilise hits you, you'll take at most 3 hits, so pushing up into the 5k-6k region.
  22. What even is this forum any more??? "Symbol of punishment does 18k damage" "Ranger has almost no stability access" I'm coming to realise that this entire forum is an experiment in AI designed to troll me.
  23. If a "gank" is both predictable and counterplayable, and doesn't rely on mechanics like teleporting or 1-shotting out of stealth....... in what sense is it a "gank" and not just...... a regular build?
  24. EU mAT won 500-0 by 2x renegade and 1x herald. The response of this forum: "rev is fine, plz nerf guard"

If all top teams play weaver, **regardless of how good or bad it is** there is a 100% chance that the top team will have a weaver on it. > > > > > > Mmmmk, but you just need to watch some of the matches, as well as actively play the game right now, to see that weaver has a winning matchup into most 1v1's at the moment (if constrained to a node) , and at worst it stalemates. Just watch a few games and you'll see weavers farming everything from renegades to druids to DHs. I'm not saying weaver is super-OP and needs to be hard-nerfed. But if you're seriously contending that it isn't up-to-par at the moment, you're disconnected from reality.
