3v3 First Impressions - Vallun

My first impressions of 3v3 in Guild Wars 2 PvP are much better than expected and I'm excited to show off some of the potential compositions players can play in this new game mode.

In the video I show a pretty standard comp most people will use, the cleave comp, then a more easy version of that, the smite ball. Then lastly I show a mes/thief/ele comp which is a bit more difficult to pull off but very fun to play.

Regarding scourge, your solution was to limit barrier, but instead the solution should be that players aren't allowed to class stack "however say playing core necro and scourge would still be allowed". It fixes every problem regarding any class now or in the future so that any potential unbalanced class or specific ability can't be abused and its effects compounded.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the algorithm attempt to match by proffession aswell?

That makes a "comps meta" mirror matches by design. I hope the proffession matching is excluded from TDM.

TDM does put a light on balance issues, or rather it shows wich proffessions can teamfight and which ones cannot.

Keeping TDM would force class balance to provide a teamfighter build for all proffessions.

I would like to keep 3v3, but leave 2v2 out.

5v5 format may have been ok with vanilla (although it never truly was), but with all the power creep over the years, it's just nonsense.

 

i know they invested all these years into Conquest, but it's really time to move on. balance around 3's. more maps.

It's 2v2 with an extra support. They should keep 2v2 formats instead.

Elaborate to me how is the same gameplay dumbed down any different. /Reactive/? Saying nobody should ever care to pay attention while playing Conquest? It's probably the reason why SHOULD Conquest be more successful is if people cared enough instead of being slowpokes. Hurr Durr too hard to imagine if someone is gonna go far after we won mid.

 

Problematic, mobile classes should be nerfed so that fights matter more. Imagine if Shortbow didn't have 900 range for every casts.

Not gonna elaborate as everything has been said before. Played a few matches so far in 3vs3 and I have to agree, with the current "balance", this mode is pretty much garbage. Deathmatch should be downed = autodead. None of this super rez crap that I see happen almost every match.

And this is why I'll keep my distance from 3v3 for now. Thank you for showing youe "smiteball" to the world, now I don't have to write a book about why GW2-s combat system isn't made for this(since I don't do videos, also thanks for the 2006 flashbacks, I hate it).

The game is indeed balanced for conquest, the gamemode which requires a team to have its members fill many roles. These roles require certain playstyles that only some classes excel at. Some classes are viable in conquest if you tweak them to be more mobile, or to have better ranged options, or utility such as portal on mesmer(in a past tense though, RIP).

Most of those roles do not exist in deathmatch however, it's a gamemode where you have a significant advantage as revenant/elementalist/necro/guardian(/engineer), and playing as mesmer/ranger/thief/warrior is like playing with an invisible challenge mote. This gamemode would need an entirely different balance, or the game itself should be rebalanced with deathmatch in mind to make it even remotely fair.

As I said, deathmatch is already making classes/builds obsolete for lacking the roles they can fullfill, removing downstate would invalidate another batch of traits/skills/specialisations, CC-ing revive attempts wouldn't matter, overall game would be dumbed down even further. Just imagine this: 3 people can easily oneshot from stealth, without a downstate you are 3v2 right from the get go. With it at least you can pop a few defensive cooldown and try to revive, maybe even winning at the end.

3v3 is a single node fight where everyone has their cooldowns and there's no strategy besides killing your opponent. It's very boring and one dimensional, not even mentioning how this games combat and class design completely falls apart in a 3v3 deathmatch setting.

 

Please stop these deathmatch experiments and just give us fulltime conquest ranked with MAYBE a week of downtime inbetween seasons.

Deathmatch should be an option all the time, however i have to say i enjoyed 2v2 better than 3v3. It was actually manageable to carry solo q on 2v2, 3v3 is another story. The other thing is most matches feel pretty lopsided as many of my matches are not going the full 5 rounds, where with 2v2s they were. All in all it's nice to have more options. With the current state of super sustainy cc condi balls just isnt very fun to play or play against, but to each their own. That is just my opinion.

I assume your vid is all premade 3v3. I think that’s a good mode as long as it is exclusively premade vs premade. Having a premade party go against some random PUG is neither challenging, fair, or remotely entertaining.

 

If they want to keep this mode it needs to be reworked to premade groups only.

I was having a blast today, with every single match coming down to a 2-2 sudden death. I specifically like the decisions you have to make like go for stomp, cleave, res, or cc chain.
