new map - civil war

i really hope can choice a team to battle. in a battlefield, like driving the vehicle, aircraft, etc like "battlefield 1942" even have a giant monster fighting each side. auto player balance etc.

 

If they can do such change it, will be lots of fun. i will stay in this map all day lol. and definitely bring back lots of players.

 

but well we all know about anet. dont expect too much. is never gona happen.

So you set an unrealistic expectation then get mad when it's not happening? Literally using your own unrealistic wants / misunderstandings as a reason to be mad at the company?...

If you want a map where you choose a side and battle against other players for control of areas it already exists: it's called World vs. World.

 

Anet said Episode 3 is like WvW but in PvE. I assume that means we'll all be on one side (with Rytlock, Crecia and the other charr we've been working with so far) fighting against the other side (Bangar, the Steel warband and charr defectors) and the _mechanics_ will be like WvW. In the trailer you see the map covered in red and blue outlines (at 0:47) just like in WvW. That probably has the same meaning as in WvW - it shows which side controls that area, and there will be capture points (like the camps, towers and keeps) in each one we need to take over to gain control. If they let players choose sides and fight against each other that would literally just be a WvW map.

 

Anet have always been very clear on keeping PvP and PvE separate. Even in Factions where guilds could side with the Luxons or Kurzicks to take over the PvE map all the fighting happened in PvP arenas, it just moved a coloured line across the map and changed the allegiance of the NPCs in towns.

 

We've actually already got a map like this - Silverwastes is very similar to WvW in that you have to reach a fort, clear out the enemy and then defend it whilst escorting dolyaks to upgrade it and hold it to get bonuses for your whole team (in this case activating the second phase of the meta). But this map looks like it's using the same messaging as WvW (like the coloured lines around controlled areas) which might help interested PvE players get involved as I know that can be a big problem when you first start WvW - there's all these lines and markings, some moving or appearing and disappearing, notifications coming up on screen and at first none of it means much and it's all a bit overwhelming. Maybe the idea is that if someone would like to try WvW but wouldn't know where to start they can play this map and then it will be more familiar to them.

That's exactly what WvW is for.

 

You'll never see any real PvP in the PvE game.. even though I think a dueling system wouldn't be a terrible idea, and Anet has messed with it before.. there's a small arena in the Suns Refuge where you can duel a friend if you want to.

Me and a friend had a good laugh taking a breather from the story to beat the snot out of each other in there XD

 

But a new PvE map with actual open world PvP would be a terrible idea.

Anet learned that lesson back when the WvW maps were mandatory for world completion.. people hated having to go to WvW for that and constantly complained about how they couldn't get things done because other players would hunt them and stop them from getting to that one vista or POI they needed.

Same thing happened in the Obsidian Sanctum too, people couldn't get that JP done because large groups of WvW players would camp in there and farm people trying to do it.

Hell I remember getting ganked in there by large groups of thieves on several occasions that were all hiding in stealth in The Dark Room section of the JP.

Not to mention other groups that would wait near the end for the same purpose.. just to screw you over.

I assume that's one of many reasons why Anet removed Obsidian Sanctum from the Battlegrounds map and made it into a seperate instance.

 

Those two changes were absolutely a major plus for the game so I doub't they would ever make the same mistakes in PvE.

There won't be any PvP. The studio isn't going to break the narrative and offer our Commanders the choice to support Bangar. That is where my mind went first, but when I try try to picture it, all I see are mobs with pitchforks and torches.

 

I think the WvW elements will try to capture the differences between each good charr faction and their relationship to each other. Hopefully, the faction skill trees will be large and varied enough to deliver many possible overall strategies for the meta's success. Having just one route to success is fine, but that is what any meta offers. I think what makes the combination of WvW elements and factions interesting is that they make a variety of successful strategies possible.

It is an interesting concept and kudos to the Developers for giving us something different.

 

I doubt there will be Player V Player since as others have already alluded to, the mindset of some players is rather different to most and it would be a paradise for those players intent on sabotaging others playing experience.

 

I suspect the areas on the map will have mini missions where we have to assist the NPC's driving the front line and territory held by each side. I hope we can experience the different perspectives of each side and choose who to support.

 

The only thing that causes me concern with a map wide battle is whether or not the map/events will still be able to be completed with relatively low populations as players migrate to newer content in future or out of peak play time hours?

I'm 1745% confident it wont...as LW is PvE content. Why would anyone (no really, ANYONE) think this would incorporate PvP elements to it? As many have said, this will be a Silverwastes style map by all appearances.

not saying I would or would not like something like that, but here is the thing: You bring up a personal preference of yours and paint not fulfilling it as an absolute wrong. Which it is not. As you have voiced stuff like that repeatedly, one could just as well claim "well, we all know Jun Yang, don´t expect too much. He will always demand pvp in pve".
